OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL

DATE: THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 29TH 2022

THEME: PRAYERS FOR YOUTHS

MEMORISE:
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; Isaiah 11:2

READ: ISAIAH 11:1-5 (KJV)

1. And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

2. And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

3. And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

4. But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

5. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, I thank You that, even with all the perversion in the world today, we still have youths in the Church who are burning for You.

2. Lord, let our youths marry correctly. Don’t let the devil deceive them to choose spouses who will become burdens to them, in Jesus name

3. Father, Your word says in Acts 2:17 that in the last days, You will pour Your Spirit upon all flesh. Please pour Your Spirit upon our youths and let them begin to prophesy and see great visions that will impact their generation greatly, in Jesus name.

4. Father, please give our youths supernatural wisdom to navigate all the hurdles of life that they may encounter as they grow, in Jesus name

5. Father, for any of our youths that is confused about any area of their life, please give them the Spirit of understanding to walk on the path You have ordained for them, in Jesus name.

6. Father, speak into the ears of our youths like You promised in Isaiah 30:21 so that they will know Your will for their lives, in Jesus name.

7. Father, please give our youths the Spirit of might so that they can do exploits for You, in Jesus name.

8. Father, please make our youths hungry for the right kind of knowledge. Save them from activities that are time wasters in Jesus name.

9. Father, let our youths fear You in order to run away from sin.

10. Lord, don’t let the devil deceive our youths with flashy things. Let them not do abominable things for money and let them also not make marriage decisions based on money and physical appearance alone, in Jesus name.

11. Father, please kill every desire to go into internet fraud or other criminal activities in our youths, in Jesus name.

12. Your special prayer point(s) for the youths around you.

Now, here are 2 things you should do:

1. Make a decision to be a contributor to the advancement of God’s Kingdom by purchasing a hard copy version of the Open Heavens devotional. You can buy it for your friends too as a potent evangelism tool.

2. Bring someone here tomorrow. Tell them about Jesus and direct them to these generational changing messages.

God bless you.

HYMN 22: SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER

1. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father’s throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter’s snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
the joys I feel, the bliss I share
of those whose anxious spirits
burn with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
and gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I’ll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee sweet hour of prayer!

THEME: HE CAN CURE THE INCURABLE

MEMORIZE:
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? (Jeremiah 32:27)

READ: MARK 2:1-12

1. And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

2. And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

3. And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

4. And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

5. When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

6. But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

7. Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

8. And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

9. Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

10. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

12. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

MESSAGE:

In Mark 2:1-12, we read the story of a man paralyzed from the neck downwards. That is a situation far beyond the scope of medicine. He was incurable, but when this man got in contact with the Lord Jesus Christ, the Curer of the incurable, his paralysis was gone within seconds.

God bless all doctors, but many a time, people go to the doctor and he or she looks at their situation and says, Sorry, there is nothing we can do to help. There is however a Healer who is greater than any doctor and can change the medical report.

On His behalf now, I am pronouncing that any negative report you have received from a doctor is changed in your favour in Jesus name. heard a testimony that made me want to jump and dance recklessly. The testifier said that a nail pierced his eye and the doctor told him nothing could be done to make him see with it again.

The Curer of the incurable turned that report around and three days after he was told that he would never see again, he started seeing. Doctors can only try to repair body parts. My Daddy does not have to repair; He replaces body parts.

Thus, when a part of the body is damaged beyond repair, the Curer of the incurable steps in with a replacement without leaving any traces that the fellow was ever sick. In the olden days, leprosy was incurable; even today, if you see a l***r that has been healed, you would see traces of the leprosy because the fingers, toes and maybe even ear lobes would have been gone.

However, when my God cleansed Naaman in 2 Kings 5:14, his skin came back to him like that of a newborn baby. I decree, every medical report that is contrary to your joy and well-being shall be turned around in the name of Jesus.

Jesus Christ can cure the incurable when you call on Him with a pure heart, but isn’t it better if you never fall sick at all? If the Curer of the incurable lives inside you, if sickness is coming into your body, it will be repelled by the power of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 3:20 says He is standing at the door of your heart right now, knocking and waiting for you to open up your heart to Him. You may say, I have already given my life to Christ, why then has God not healed me? Check very well, are you really living holy? Are you living in complete obedience to the word of God?

KEY POINT:
If the Curer of the incurable is in you, no sickness can survive in your body.

HYMN 13: MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING LESS

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus name.

CHORUS:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness seems to veil His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

THEME: HE CAN CONTROL THE UNCONTROLABLE

MEMORISE: The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. Proverbs 21:1

READ: Psalms 135:1 -12
1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the name of the LORD; praise him, O ye servants of the LORD.

2 Ye that stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God,

3 Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant.

4 For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

5 For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.

6 Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

7 He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.

8 Who smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and beast.

9 Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of thee, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants.

10 Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings;

11 Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan:

12 And gave their land for an heritage, an heritage unto Israel his people.

MESSAGE

Our memory verse today says that the hearts of kings are in God’s hands and He turns them whichever way He pleases. This should tell you that the greatest connection you can ever have is the one you have to God. If you have God as your friend, anyone you need help from will have no choice but to favor you because their hearts are in His hands.

Many years ago, we wanted to get The Redeemed Christian Church of God registered in a foreign country. Everybody told us that it was not possible as that country does not register Pentecostal Churches. We insisted and asked them to just submit our papers. After some time, we got the registration papers. Some years later, we needed approval for a project and so we applied for it. The government official then sent us a letter saying that we could not be approved because we weren't even registered in the first place. We replied that we registered, attaching our registration papers to the letter and they were all surprised, wondering how we got registered, l was just laughing because my Daddy is the One in control.

I prophesy into your life: wherever it is that you need favor, before the person in power realizes it, he or she would have favored you already in Jesus' name.

My God doesn't only control kings, He controls other things. In Matthew 8:23-27, He controlled a raging storm. In Numbers 22:28-30, He control the voice box of a donkey. In Exodus 14:16-28, He controlled the Red Sea and made a path in between the sea for His people to pass through. The Bible says that the whole world is His footstool (Acts 7:49). In order words, you are under His feet. If you submit to His will, He will control things in your favor (Romans 8:28), but if you decide to fight Him, He can control things to go against you. Outside this world, He is also in control of the gates of heaven and hell. If you live holy, He will open the gates of heaven for you to come in but if you live a life of sin, He will shut the gates of heaven and the only other place such a person can go is hell. Which one would you rather go to - Heaven or hell?

KEY POINT
God is the One in control of everything; befriend Him today so that all can be well with you.

HYMN 15: NOW THANK WE ALL OUR GOD
1 Now thank we all our God
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done,
in whom his world rejoices;
who from our mothers' arms
has blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

2 O may this bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
with ever joyful hearts
and blessed peace to cheer us,
to keep us in his grace,
and guide us when perplexed,
and free us from all ills
of this world in the next.

3 All praise and thanks to God
the Father now be given,
the Son and Spirit blest,
who reign in highest heaven
the one eternal God,
whom heaven and earth adore;
for thus it was, is now,

THEME: HE CAN REVERSE THE IRREVERSIBLE

MEMORISE:
ā€œI am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.ā€ – (Revelation 1:8)

READ: Ezekiel 37:1-14 (KJV)

1. The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,

2. And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

3. And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

4. Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.

5. Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.

6. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

7. So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

8. And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

9. Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

10. So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

11. Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

12. Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

13. And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,

14. And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.

MESSAGE:
Our memory verse today can be interpreted to mean that in God, the past, the present and the future coexist. As a result of this, He controls times and seasons (Daniel 2:20-21). Thus, if He wants, He can stop time like in Joshua 10:12-14. I remember when I was about to turn sixty years old and the assignment God had given me seemed to be far from being achieved. I groaned and cried to God, ā€Lord, help me. I haven't achieved all that you called me to do. There is still so much work to be done and now the sun is setting". He said, "Son, I decide when the sun sets".
Yes, my God can stop time, but He can even do more than that; He can reverse it. In Isaiah 38:7-8, when He told a king that he was going to be healed, the king asked for a sign. The prophet said, "Okay, which one do you want, should I ask the sun to move forward faster or to move backwards?" The king said, "Moving forward faster is easy, ask the sun to go backā€ and the sun went backwards that day.
God can pick an opportunity that you think you have lost forever and bring it right back to you again. That was what He did in Genesis 18:9-14 when He said Sarah would have a son. Sarah must have been in menopause for about 40 years, but that didn't matter to God because He can bring back that which appears to have been gone forever. I prophesy to you; every opportunity you have already lost shall be restored to you in Jesus' name. Now, I don't just want you to say an ordinary 'amen' to that prayer. I want you to meditate on it for a moment. If the Almighty God could bring back the menstrual period of a ninety-year-old woman, do you think your case will be too difficult for Him to solve?
There was a lady who had given birth to children from different men before she surrendered her life to Christ. She believed that no man would want to marry her ever again but to her surprise, God brought a man to marry her and even told the man that though this lady had a rough past. He had cleansed her and given her a brand new beginning! God is still in the business of reversing the irreversible and He will bring back whatever you have lost in Jesus' name.

PRAYER POINT:
Cry to God concerning that opportunity that you have lost. Tell Him, "Lord, please reverse the irreversible for my sake" Go ahead and cry to Him.

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDENT MANUAL
DATE: SUNDAY 18 SEPTEMBER 2022 – LESSON 4

TOPIC: SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES

MEMORY VERSE:
ā€œYe also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.ā€ – 1 Peter 2:5 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Hebrews 13:15-16 (KJV)

15. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

16. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The Christian faith, like every other religion, involves components like a temple, altar, and sacrifices (Gen.4:3-4; 8:20; 1Sam.1:9). Spiritual sacrifices, however, replaced the material sacrifices of the Old Covenant (Ex.29:36). No longer do we offer bulls, goats, and lambs on the altar (Hebrews 10:1-11). Our worship today involves the offering of spiritual sacrifices. What are these spiritual sacrifices and who qualifies to offer them acceptably?

LESSON OUTLINES:

1. WHAT ARE SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES?

2. HOW TO OFFER ACCEPTABLE SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES

1. WHAT ARE SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES?

Spiritual sacrifices are continuous offerings from believers to God in faith. They are words or deeds motivated by a desire to glorify God alone (Heb.13:16). Just as the smoke of the incense ascended in the sanctuary in the Old Testament, so our spiritual sacrifices ascend to God (Ps.141:2; Rev.5:8). These include the believer’s prayers, praises, will, body, time, treasures, talents, and spiritual gifts.

Therefore, the fact that the incense was always burning means we should always pray (Lk.18:1; 1Thess.5:17). Fasting is also a spiritual sacrifice that aids the believer’s prayer (Dan.9:3). God created us to praise Him, and we must offer the ā€˜sacrifice of praise’ to Him continually (Heb.13:15). Just as Jesus surrendered His will to the Father’s (Lk.22:42), so should we, though it’s an ongoing battle (Rom. 7:18-20). Our talents and spiritual gifts are from God and should be offered for the perfecting of the saints, the work of the ministry, and the edification of the body of Christ (Eph.4:7, 12). Our treasures (financial/material resources) contribute to the spiritual sacrifices to be offered to God, the kingdom work on earth, the ministers of God, and the people in need (Phil.4:18; Prov.19:17; Gal.6:10).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should share with the class the spiritual sacrifices they have made to God

2. HOW TO OFFER ACCEPTABLE SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES

Believers constitute the new priesthood (1Pet.2:9). Therefore, to offer acceptable spiritual sacrifices, we must appear before God sanctified (Ps.24:3-4; Lev.10:1-3). First, we must present our bodies as ā€˜living sacrifices’ (Rom.12:1-2; Gal.2:20). Our bodies are the temple of the Lord (1Cor.6:18-20). The believer’s body is yielded to God as an instrument of righteousness (Rom.6:12-13; 8:11-13). This implies that we are to maintain good sexual boundaries (Eph.5:3), refuse to use our bodies for theft, or to bring harm to another person (1Pet.4:15; Col.3:12-13). Second, spiritual sacrifices must be offered obediently (1Sam.15:22); willingly (2Cor.9:6); cheerfully (2Cor.9:7); timely (Eccl.11:6) and in reverence to God (Mal.1:8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should narrate how they have offered a spiritual sacrifice in a timely manner.

CONCLUSION: Sacrifice is part and parcel of worship. Jesus promised us rewards for every kind action done in His name (Mark.9:41).

QUESTIONS:

1. What are spiritual sacrifices?

2. Mention ways believers can offer acceptable spiritual sacrifices to God.

ASSIGNMENT: In line with today’s lesson, mention with biblical references, five (5) people who offered acceptable sacrifices to God.

RCCG Sunday School HYMN

1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee.

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
