WHO ARE YOU TO THE PEOPLE?

Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way? (John 14:5)

READ
John 14:3-5

[3]. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

[4]. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

[5]. Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”

EXPOSITION

John's pedigree, no doubt, was outstanding-the forerunner of Jesus, a man clothed in animal skin, and fasting and praying in the wilderness for days, among others (Lk. 3:1ff). The people of his days regarded him as a prophet, not because he wanted to be so called. He was really a prophet of the Lord. He was different. He was unlike those who would tell eminent personalities what they want to hear, and against God's will. He was approved both by God and man. Who are you? Hope you are not a herbalist, very materialistic, or one concerned with filling his/her belly at the expense of the flock of God (Ezk. 34)? People know you. Are you aware of that?

Don't try to hide your true colour; you won't go too far before your true person will be unveiled. Be transparent, and allow Jesus to be formed in you. Don't hide in the dark, throwing darts in the light. You can't hide from light to the Omnipresent and Omniscient God. Hope you are not one of those who say, "Do what I say and not what I do"? That lifestyle can never last; the light of God will expose it soonest. John was not a bat that presents itself as a bird and rat, at the same time. They knew him for whom and what he was. He challenged what needed to be challenged in his days, and God was glorified, even in his death. Peradventure you have lost your credibility/integrity, you can still make amends. Return to Jesus

DON'T BOAST OF TOMORROW (II)

Read: Luke 12:16-20

[16]Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.
[17]And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’
[18]So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.
[19]And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’
[20]But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

MEMORISE: There are many plans in a man's heart, nevertheless the LORD'S counsel that will stand (Proverbs 19:21).

EXPOSITION
Just a phone call about an accident, a text message about a cough turned high fever, a stomach-ache, an office apartment engulfed in flames of fire, or being caught in a sporadic gunfire at a recreation park, and etcetera, can alter a day's plan, if not a lifetime! Life is too complex than not bringing God into our plans as Christians.

Life is uncertain to us, but not to God. So, instead of boasting about the validity of your plans, commit them to the Lord. Lots of people love to celebrate their birthdays. Of course, God tells us to number our days, but this is aimed at helping us gain a heart of wisdom (Psa. 90:12). Life on earth is like a vapour when compared with eternity. Don't waste your life on what is ephemeral.

Before Thomas A' Kempis wrote, "Man proposes but God disposes", King Solomon had written it first: We toss the coin, but it is the Lord who controls its decision (Prov. 16:33 LB). And Psalm 146:4 (NLT) says, When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. Know assuredly that man cannot control future events of his own, for man has neither the wisdom to see the future nor the power to

DON'T BOAST OF TOMORROW (1)

MEMORISE

Do not boast about tomorrow. For you do not know what a day may bring forth (Proverbs 27:1).

READ:
James 4:13-17

[13]. Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

[14]. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

[15]. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

[16]. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

[17]. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

EXPOSITION

Is it wrong for Christians to make plans? No. What James 4 warns against is living our lives and making plans as if God doesn't exist. Such amounts to practical atheism. As simple as life is, it is not as easy as ABC. It takes God to take care of the good, the bad and the ugly of tomorrow. The stern warning here by James is not the desire to make a profit out of business, nor is he condemning careful planning, but rather, the foolish presumption that characterises people's planning without God in it. He says, *Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that" (Jas. 4:15).

The writer of Proverbs 16:3 counsels, *Commit your works* (actions) *to the LORD, and your thoughts* (plans) *will be established* (succeed). Believers in God are not to arrogate anything, especially success, to themselves, because that amounts to pride and free-thinking. The Scripture says, *For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have* [talents, treasures, opportunities, and etcetera] *that you did not receive? Now if you did receive it, why do you boast as if

SERVING IN THE WILL OF GOD

Read: Acts 28:1-31
[1]Now when they had escaped, they then found out that the island was called Malta.
[2]And the natives showed us unusual kindness; for they kindled a fire and made us all welcome, because of the rain that was falling and because of the cold.
[3]But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
[4]So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.”
[5]But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm.
[6]However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long time and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.
[7]In that region there was an estate of the leading citizen of the island, whose name was Publius, who received us and entertained us courteously for three days.
[8]And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him.
[9]So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed.

Salvation gives us every reason to be joyful and glad. Jesus Christ has stripped us of all sin and darkness, and He has given us light. He has made us pure before the Father's eyes. The way a bridegroom would adorn His bride, is the way Christ has adorned us, out of His love for us.

The love we express for one another will be the evidence to the world that God is real. We, as Christians already know that God is real through the faith that we have. The people who need to realize that God is truly real are the people who have not yet come to the knowledge of God. Make sure that everything you do in your daily life is an expression of God's love for the world

Though kingdoms arise and fall and though the Kingdom of antichrist briefly arise and cover the earth, it will all be done away with. God will give the rule over the earth to his saints. And the emphasis here is clear: "forever, even for ever and ever. " The meek shall truly inherit the earth, for God, not man, will determine who is to inherit it.
