DYING TO SELF: REBUILDING INTO GOD’S WILL
By P Elisha Adefesobi
Text: 2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
When God wants to rebuild a life, the first thing He does is destroy the old foundation of that life.
Many people want God’s blessings, but they are not ready to let go of the old version of themselves. Yet according to Scripture, if any man be in Christ, he becomes a new creature. Old things must pass away before new things can emerge.
I asked God for a deeper understanding of this Scripture, and He gave this illustration:
A single woman may live independently or under the authority of her parents. But the moment she accepts a man as her husband, she submits herself to the laws, principles, and leadership of that man. She no longer lives entirely for herself.
That is what it means to be in Christ.
To become a new creature is to come under the authority, will, and leadership of Christ completely.
Many believers are not ready to surrender their old ways, desires, ambitions, and personal will. That is why they struggle to give God their all.
Romans 8:29 says:
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son…”
God’s goal is not just to bless you — it is to make you like Christ.
To walk with God, you must be willing to forget yourself, your pride, your ambitions, and even your personal honour. The new creature is Christ living through you. He becomes your controller — the One you submit to fully.
Sometimes, what God asks you to do may not please your flesh, but your obedience and sacrifice are treasures before Him.
Conform to the will of God, and prayer will become like a conversation between you and Him.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” — Matthew 6:33
The will of God may not always be easy, but it brings honour and secures eternity.
The first thing a man needs is salvation.
The second is redemption.
The third is obedience to the will of God.
Missing His way leads to destruction.
Walking in His way leads to eternity.
The journey may be difficult because the enemy will try everything possible to discourage you. But your hope is not in your ambition, strength, or even your prayers alone — your hope is in standing within the will of God.
God glorifies Himself in weakness. “By strength shall no man prevail.” — 1 Samuel 2:9
Your victory is not in human ability but in your surrender to His Word. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart…” — Psalm 119:11
You become what you continually conform to. The more you conform to Christ, the more you become like Him.
Imagine if thousands of believers truly committed themselves to the will of God wholeheartedly. What a generation that would be.
Darkness may still exist, but your life becomes light in the midst of it. However, once a believer steps outside God’s will, he becomes vulnerable to the enemy.
One of the greatest prayers a believer can pray is:
“Oh Lord, show me Your will.”
Until you discover the path of life, you may continue becoming a prey to the enemy. Prophecy alone cannot change a man who refuses to walk in obedience to God’s Word. Many prayers are delayed because of disobedience.
God intentionally allowed Pharaoh to remain so that he would push the children of Israel toward destiny. In the same way, God can use your Pharaoh to drive you from comfort into the place where your glory will shine.
There are battles you were never meant to fight. Your assignment is to obey God, follow His will, and keep moving forward.
Prayer
“Lord Jesus, have mercy on me whenever I step outside Your will. Lead me continually in the path You have ordained for my life.”
