SOMETIMES, RESISTANCE IS A SIGN OF PROGRESS
There's a simple but powerful truth in life — anything that rises must push against something.
An aircraft does not glide into the sky effortlessly—it must overcome gravity. A bird flaps its wings against air resistance. A car moves forward because friction gives its tires grip. Even a bicycle stays upright only while pushing forward against opposing forces.
In the same way, meaningful progress in life—spiritually, mentally, physically, or professionally—will always meet resistance.
If you are experiencing no opposition, no challenge, and no stretching, it may not be a sign of peace—it could be a sign of stagnation or even decline because Growth naturally invites pressure.
“Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”
— 2 Timothy 3:12 (ESV)
Scripture makes this clear. Paul told Timothy that everyone who chooses to live a godly life will face opposition (2 Timothy 3:12). Jesus Himself warned that endurance—not ease—is the pathway to victory (Matthew 24:13). Resistance is not a detour; it is part of the journey.
Consider Nehemiah. When he set out to rebuild Jerusalem’s wall, opposition arose immediately (Nehemiah 4:1–3). Mockery, threats, and discouragement came. But that resistance didn’t mean he was on the wrong path. It confirmed he was doing something significant. The same is true for David before he became king, and even for Jesus, whose purpose was met with constant resistance.
In every area of human endeavor, this principle holds:
• In your career or business, new levels come with new challenges.
• In relationships, deeper connections often require working through conflict.
• In personal growth, discipline always battles comfort.
• In your faith, the closer you walk with God, the more you may feel spiritual resistance.
IN SUMMARY: Resistance is often proof that you are moving upward, not backward. However, not all resistance is equal. Some opposition corrects us, while some confirms us. So, wisdom is knowing the difference. But one thing remains true — avoiding all resistance usually means avoiding growth.
Therefore, instead of asking, “Why is this so hard?” consider asking, “What is this resistance building in me?” because Strength, patience, faith, endurance are not gifted, they're forged, in process.
