Title: From Prison to Purpose

Text: Genesis 39:20-23; 50:20

Introduction:

Have you ever felt trapped, confined, or limited in your circumstances? Perhaps you're experiencing a "prison" of your own making, or one imposed upon you by others. Joseph's story in Genesis teaches us that even in the darkest places, God is working to transform our struggles into stepping stones for His purpose.

The Prison Experience (Genesis 39:20-23)

Joseph's life took a drastic turn when his brothers sold him into slavery, and he ended up in an Egyptian prison. But despite the unfair circumstances, Joseph chose to trust God.

- "But the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him..." (Genesis 39:21)
- "The Lord was with him and gave him success in everything he did." (Genesis 39:23)

From Prison to Promotion (Genesis 41:1-43)

God's plan for Joseph unfolded rapidly:

- Pharaoh's cupbearer and baker had disturbing dreams.
- Joseph interpreted their dreams accurately.
- Pharaoh had a dream; Joseph interpreted it, predicting famine.
- Pharaoh appointed Joseph to oversee Egypt's food supply.

The Purpose Unveiled (Genesis 50:20)

Years later, Joseph revealed God's purpose to his brothers:

- "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good..." (Genesis 50:20)
- "...to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." (Genesis 50:20)

Lessons from Joseph's Journey:

1. God is present in the prison: Even in difficult circumstances, God's presence and kindness are available.
2. Trust God's sovereignty: Recognize that God can turn evil intentions into good outcomes.
3. Look beyond the present: Your current struggles may be preparing you for future greatness.
4. Stay faithful and fruitful: Continue to serve and honor God, even in adversity.

Conclusion:

Your prison experience can become a catalyst for purpose. Remember:

- God is with you.
- He can turn struggles into successes.
- Your story is part of a larger plan.

Prayer:

Father, help us trust Your presence in our difficulties. Transform our struggles into stepping stones for Your purpose. May our stories testify to Your goodness and sovereignty. Amen.

May this message inspire hope and purpose in your life, reminding you that God can turn any circumstance into an opportunity for growth and fulfillment.

When God asked Moses to deliver God’s people out of slavery, Moses responded, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:11. King David, who was described as a man after God’s own heart, also said “But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to You?” 1 Chronicles 29:14 NLT. When an angel of the Lord encouraged Gideon to take on the Midianites, he immediately offered his not-so-impressive CV to prove why he wasn’t up for the task. The insecure warrior said, “But Lord… how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” Judges 6:15-16. If these stories tell us anything, if we’ve ever felt like we’re not good enough or important enough or worthy for what He has assigned to do here on earth , KNOW that He who is calling you knows you and He is not looking at your ability or how good you are. The perfect sweet spot with the Lord is to trust Him rather than ourselves. The truth is everyone whom God called He never asked for what they can bring to the table, not by their strength, cleverness, resources, insights and wisdom, BUT their SURRENDER to Him and their AVAILABILITY. God provides what you cannot and chooses you in spite of your complaining, negativity or flaws. He even sent His Spirit to work in you so He can work through you to do what “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.”SO, get ready, prepare your heart and yourself, God wants YOU! ! !

Exodus 33:18 “Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” Moses knew God. He spent 40 days in God's presence on Mount Sinai. When the Israelites rebelled with the golden calf, God revealed His angry, grieving heart to Moses. And even more, God entered into conversation with Moses on the future of Israel. He allowed His heart to be swayed by the intercession of this man. If anyone knew God intimately it was Moses. Yet, there was something within Moses that hungered for more. He called out to God, "Now show me your glory." What was Moses asking for? Hadn't he already seen God's glory? The experience of God's glory is a manifestation of His presence that intersects with our lives in real time. In other words, God's glory is not a momentary cloud or lightening strike. It is a experience of God's manifest presence RIGHT NOW. This is what Moses wanted. He had known God very intimately. BUT, he wanted an experience with God. SO, whatever you do REFUSE to settle for puddles of glory. There is more to be experienced in Him. ! !

There is a litmus test for knowing if someone fears God, and it’s found in the Genesis 22 account of the life of Abraham, the father of our faith. This episode is significant in a number of ways, including the fact that it is the first time the words worship and love are used in Scripture. But Abraham wasn’t there on the mountain to sing songs or dance — he was there to sacrifice the thing he loved most in the world. It was his son, Isaac, of course. This was the child Abraham and Sarah had waited for through many long years, born in their old age when it seemed impossible. If God was going to fulfill His long-ago promise to Abraham to make of him “a great nation” (Genesis 12:2), it would have to be through this son. Obedience. This was the measure of how Abraham feared God — that he did what God had directed even when it seemed to be counterproductive to the fulfillment of God’s promise to him. The fact is, He still wants us to sacrifice what we value the most even today. It comes down to hearing, honouring, and obeying God’s voice and doing what He says, come what may. Our obedience, unwavering trust, of the Lord leads to a greater blessing. ! !

*Introduction*

"Free to Be" is a state of living where we are unhindered by the weights of our past, unfettered by the fears of our future, and unshackled from the lies that have held us captive. It's a life of liberty, empowerment, and purpose.

*The Prison of Self*

We often imprison ourselves with:

1. *Self-doubt*: "I'm not good enough." (Matthew 14:31)
2. *Fear*: "I'm afraid of failure." (Hebrews 13:6)
3. *Shame*: "I'm defined by my past." (Romans 8:1)
4. *Insecurity*: "I'm not worthy." (Ephesians 1:4-5)

*The Key to Freedom*

Jesus said, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." (John 8:32)

1. *Know the Truth*: Recognize the lies that hold you captive. (2 Corinthians 10:5)
2. *Believe the Truth*: Embrace God's word as the ultimate authority. (Psalm 119:160)
3. *Live the Truth*: Walk in the freedom of your identity in Christ. (Galatians 2:20)

*Scriptural Foundations*

1. *Romans 8:1-2*: "There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus."
2. *2 Corinthians 5:17*: "If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation."

I am reminded of Peter who had been imprisoned for his outspoken faith (see Acts 12:4-8). Behind prison walls, Peter had been placed under the security of four squads of soldiers, bound tightly with two chains and secured between two soldiers. In Peter's darkest hour, it seemed as if his voice for Christ would be silenced forever. It appeared like all hope was lost—that his cause for Christ was too weak a match for the enemy. But in that darkest hour, voices were still speaking out for Christ. Acts 12:5 states that, "Constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church" (NKJV). The results were miraculous—an angel rescued Peter and led him to freedom. SO, you and I must not be thrown by the persecutions and threats that come against believers today. We must not be discouraged to the point of not praying or speaking out as voices for Christ. After all, God's Word reveals we might be persecuted, but we are not forsaken (see 2 Cor. 4:9). Come what may, KEEP THE FAITH!! ! !

When God wants something done, when He has some kingdom “mission impossible” to accomplish, He goes looking for a man or woman to take the assignment. The Bible tells us that “the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His” (2 Chronicles 16:9, NASB). He’s looking for people who will take on risky operations of love and mercy. To qualify, you don’t need education, title or money. You just need to be available. I believe RIGHT NOW, He is looking for men and women who will put God’s will above all else. I also believe you are one of them. SO, stop undermining yourself, YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE MISSION AND THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL!! Will you TODAY like Isaiah raise your hand and say “Here am I. Send me!” ! !
