TOPIC: PAINS AND GAINS OF SINGLES

Read Genesis 24:57-67
57. And they said, We will call the damsel, and enquire at her mouth.
58. And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
59. And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men.
60. And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
61. And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62. And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country.
63. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
64. And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.
65. For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself.
66. And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
67. And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

MEMORISE: Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death (Genesis 24:67)

EXPOSITION
Being a single Christian brother, or sister, is God-ordained, as well as being married Christian brother, or sister. Both must not be joked with, but be taken with all seriousness. Being single has some things that look like pains. One of such is loneliness. This can be a serious internal disturbance, especially, if one is up to marriageable age. The solace here for all singles is that, you may be lonely but never alone; Jesus is with you. Apart from loneliness, coping with temptations to misbehave cannot be overemphasised, concerning singles. Since, you are yet to marry, the devil will strategically place some oppose s*x around you. But with Holy Spirit filling you and coupled with prayers and watchfulness, you will surmount this. This should guide the youth as St. Valentine's day is being celebrated globally. They should beware of those ungodly momentary s*xual enjoyments that can truncate their future.
The pains should not becloud the gains. It is a time you have all the time to prepare for future challenges. You have at your disposal, time to pray, anytime any day, at home or elsewhere, without disturbance of any kind. Your obligation/expenditure are greatly limited, if you are yet to marry. And you must save hugely. Read Paul's counsel 1 Cor. 7:8,9,24-25).
Single's time, as a Christian, is also a time to prepare for the ministry. Or are you surprised you are told you have got a ministry? Yes, you do! So, use your single days as a believer to prepare adequately for the task ahead (cf. Col. 4:17). If God calls you to ministry while still unmarried, how lucky are you! The reason is that, you have more time for preparation than when you are married. So, dear young brother/sister, single periods can be painful, yet they become gainful at the end, if the time had been judiciously invested. Stay blessed.

PRAYER POINTS
1. O God, help our marriageable youths waiting for Your will to understand and acknowledge that it is worth the waiting.
2. Lord, rid our churches, ministers and members of the sins of fornication and adultery.
3. O God, help Your Church to be more alive to You.

TOPIC: YOUR PRIMARY ASSIGNMENT

Read Matthew 6:28-33

MEMORISE: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33)

EXPOSITION
Why primary school education has to precede both secondary and tertiary institutions, is obvious. When a child has not mastered writing and recognition of letters and figures, there is no justification for introducing such child to higher levels of learning. Today's dose of the Living Water refocuses our attention on our primary assignment, as Christians on earth - seeking Christ's kingdom, first. It is primary, because it has to come first and foremost, in all our endeavours (Matt. 6:33).
When the first and foremost thing is being neglected, abysmal and lacklustre performance cannot be avoided! All through man's life, he seeks wealth, fame, status, relevance and recognition, thereby neglecting his main duty on earth. God made us to relate with Him (Gen. 3:8). He demands we give Him our hearts (Prov. 23:26). He wouldn't struggle to have room there (Rev. 3:20). Don't try to share His rightful place in you with other persons/things.
No doubt, wealth, fame, prosperity, and the likes, are desired by rational persons. They are part of man's felt needs. However, they are secondary to man's real need - salvation and meaningful walk with God. Do you go to the university without having gone through the primary and secondary schools? You'd better stop running after the God-promised "additions". Instead, seek God's Kingdom first (Matt. 6:33). How? Be born again (John 3:3). Be sanctified by Jesus' blood (cf. Eph. 5:26,27). Be Holy Spirit-filled. Be studious of the Scripture. And, don't forget to witness what you have witnessed to others who haven't. By so doing, you can't be stopped from getting all the good things of life Jesus Christ has in stock for you. Stay lifted!

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, deliver me from every ungodly desire that can stop me from focussing on what concerns You for me.
2. Pray for the grace to prioritise what matters to God, in all aspects of Your life.
3. Lord, help our church leaders at all levels, not to shift their focus away from what beats in the heart of God.

TOPIC: WHEN PRAISE ASCENDS . . .

Read Psalm 149:1-9

MEMORISE: Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand (Psalms 149:6)

EXPOSITION
Most times, facing our difficult and challenging, or better still, darkest times, makes us quickly forget the power of praise in prayer. All we concentrate on, these times is, prayer, and prayer, again! There is no problem/difficulty that is insurmountable, through prayer, but at times, the Almighty wants us to fear Him. He deliberately delays answers which are desperately awaited, until we remember to exalt His holy name (Psa. 145:1-2).
Some people of God were praying fervently to deliver a demon-possessed lady. They were binding and casting, and did all they could, but the devils remained stubbornly unmoved! One of the ministers, who was obviously discerning, advised they resorted to praises, of which the rest consented. As they began to sing: "Thou art worthy O Lord, to receive glory, honour and power..." The demons in their numbers began to plead that they were let go unhurt, but not one of them survived as the demon-infested lady vomited them all! Halleluiah, God omnipotent reigns forever! (Rev. 19:6).
When praises ascend to the One Who is worthy to take it, miracles, signs, wonders, victories, blessings, power, enablement, provisions, inspiration, empowerment... descend. You can have all these, right away, if you get 'lost' in His praise. Stay victorious, in Jesus' name.

PRAYER POINTS
1. I receive anointing to launch into unlimited praises to the One Who deserves it, in Jesus' name.
2. Give every home the grace, O God, to acknowledge that You are bigger than all situations.
3. Let Your Gospel thrive in this nation, and to the ends of the earth, O Lord, in Jesus' name.

TOPIC: JESUS' POWER OVER NATURAL LAWS

Read John 6:16-21

MEMORISE: So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid (John 6:19)

EXPOSITION
The walking of Jesus on the water reveals His power over natural law. Natural law is law which is derived naturally from human nature or physical nature, and therefore has universal validity. Natural law is an ethical belief or system of beliefs supposed to be inherent in human nature and discoverable by reason, rather than revelation (Rom. 2:14-15). According to Aristotle, the man referred to as the father of natural law, said "this life is governed by laws and anyone who violates any particular law will face the consequences". One of these natural laws is the law of cause and effect. This law says that for every cause there is an effect, and for every effect there is a cause. For every action we take, there is an effect.
It is the violation of natural law for a man to walk on the water, as Jesus did. The negative effect of breaking this law is for one to sink into the water and drown. The one who has all power violated this law and He faced no consequence. Hallelujah! The Scripture says, 'For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him' (Col. 1:16).
When Jesus was walking on the water, His intention was to join His disciples inside the boat and rescue them from capsizing, because their boat was about to capsize, as a result of the great wind that blew (Jn. 6:18). If He could not find a boat to take in order to meet them, He had to command the water to become rock under His feet. Natural law is no barrier to God. He can do and undo. Your own will not be difficult before Him. What is that negative natural law that has been taking its cause over your life, home, endeavours, etc.? The One who has power over nature is here now to take care of it. Call upon Him, now and always.

PRAYER POINT
1. Every natural law that is against my progress, I nullify you, in Jesus' name.
2. I retrieve myself from every tradition, or family background that is drawing me back and down, in Jesus' name.
3. Lord, remove all barriers that make it difficult for us to have good governance in our country.

TOPIC: OLD DOCTRINE THAT RULES IN HEAVEN (II)

Read Isaiah 40:1-8
1. Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins.
3. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
6. The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

MEMORISE: The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God abides forever (Isaiah 40:8)

EXPOSITION
God wishes that we come back to Him at the end of our race, on earth. He has prepared heaven for us. Read John 14:1-3 and Revelation 22:1-5. Here we see the Beautiful Heaven prepared for the saints. Why should you call yourself a Christian and live like ungodly people (2 Cor. 6:14ff)? True Christians i.e. those who have truly met the Lord Jesus, and are being changed by Him (2 Cor. 5:17) have the seed of God in them. This seed of God in you is the seed of God's holiness, for God is holy (Lev. 14:11; 1 Pet. 1:13-25). The world is tired of this ancient godly pattern of living, and has fashioned out new ways of destruction for itself. You should run away from this (1 Jn. 2:15ff).
Holiness amd godliness are the ancient path God has ordained for us and they last forever. The world is like grass that will soon wither away. The world is like flower that its glory is fading away. Right now, the glory of the world is fading away and getting ready to be burned with everlasting fire. Why should you be among those who would be sent to hell fire, just because of lies, deceits, hypocrisy, unforgiving spirit, evil-mindedness, etc.? You need to come to Jesus Christ today, and give your life to Him.
Do not listen to Satan's ministration that, if God will destroy this world because of the sins of fornication, adultery, pre-marital s*x, corruption, nudity, etc., it means that everybody will have to go to hell fire. This is neither biblically nor doctrinally correct. There are countless people of God who have chosen, and are glued to God's holy path. Join them today. That is the only key to making heaven (Heb. 12:14).

PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, I refuse to perish with people of the world, in the name of Jesus Christ.
2. Father, I join Your people who believe Your Word and live according to it. Let me never quit this band of glorious heaven-bound Christians.
3. Father, please deliver our children from the perilous times that make people compromise the standard of Your Word.

TOPIC: OLD DOCTRINE THAT RULES IN HEAVEN (I)

Read Revelation 14:1-5
1. And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.
2. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:
3. And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
4. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
5. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

MEMORISE: And in their mouth was found no deceit, for they are without fault before the throne of God (Revelation 14:5)

EXPOSITION
Several things around us in the world are new. There are many new clothes. There are many new cars. There are many new shoes in the markets. There are new outlooks, in the name of fashion. There are new trends in dressing, contrary to the old ways we used to know, in the recent past. There are modern methods of travelling. There are new ways of communication, all over the world. Even in warfare, there are new technological ways of fighting, today. There are new weapons of war, all over the world. Things are changing with new ways and fashions. Indeed, there are new things, everywhere, though most of these are improvements on past innovations.
The world is aging, but wants to refuse this fact by trying to renew its order and systems with new things, hence the various forms of evils in the name of new ways of dressing, living, behaving and so on. Contrary to all these new ways of doing things, we are assured that there is an old way of living that reigns in heaven. The Bible says that holiness and purity of character are age-long doctrines that do not change. The saints that want to make heaven must imbibe this old doctrine of living.
New ways of living on earth cannot change God and His holiness. We should maintain godliness and purity before Him. This is the old doctrine that cannot change its order on earth and in heaven. Saints should not tell lies, and they must be faultless. We should be blamelessly holy, within and without. Whether people see you or not, your character must be based on the dictates of God's Word. 'And in their mouth was found no deceit, for they are without fault before the throne of God' (Rev. 14:5). Does that describe your way of life?

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, I will live for You on earth. Please, help my resolve.
2. Father, let Your church live in accordance with Your living Word.
3. Father, uproot evil from our land, and cause revival to break out, by Your Word.

TOPIC: KICK OUT THE SPIRIT OF FEAR

Read Job 3:20-25
20. Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;
21. Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
22. Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
23. Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?
24. For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.
25. For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

MEMORISE: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7)

EXPOSITION
The most dangerous and deadly spirit in life is the spirit of fear. It causes hypertension and other deadly illnesses. It results in failure. It separates good relationship. It causes sleeplessness. It brings about emotional problems. It is an enemy to the joy and peace that should be enjoyed from the Holy Spirit. It can finally shorten one's life.
The spirit of fear is a negative spirit. It always produces tragedy, if not quickly dealt with. Job, an ancient man in the Bible, learnt his own lesson from the spirit of fear, in hard way. He gave the spirit of fear as the root cause of his problem. He frankly said, 'For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me' (Job 3:25). With all things that had happened to Job, he must have been a kind of person who greatly feared calamity, death and misfortune over his children. Everybody has his own fears, and how we handle our different 'them' determines what happens to us in the long-run.
Unlike Job, David sought the Lord earnestly, for total deliverance from all his fears. David later gave the testimony of what God did in his life: I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears (Psa. 34:4). You must learn to turn your questions to request before God, and take your fears and anxiety to Him in fervent prayer. There are fears of death, failure, rejection, old age, loss of loved ones, of the unknown, etc. No matter what your own fear is, learn to rebuke it, repeatedly, in the name of Jesus, until you are totally delivered from it.

PRAYER POINTS
1. I rebuke the spirit of fear in my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. Set me free, O Lord, from any spirit of fear that dominates my heart.
3. Set them free, O Lord, those who are in bo***ge, because of fear of any kind.

TOPIC: THE JOY OF FORGIVENESS

Read Psalms 32:1-11
1. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
2. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
3, When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.
4. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.
5. I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
6. For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
7. Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
8. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
9. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
10. Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.
11. Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

MEMORISE: Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered (Psalms 32:1)

EXPOSITION
King David also sinned like any one of us. The words "lair", "murderer" and "adulterer" appeared on the list of sins committed by him. He knew how these awful things affected his relationship with his heavenly Father. He didn't escape the axe of judgment, the consequence of his sins. He saw the other side of God (cf. Prov. 16:5).
But we see in him the willingness to repent and confess his sins, with the promise of not going back to them. Is it any wonder that David wrote the opening lines of Psalms 51? Can we blame him for referring to the forgivem person (in this case, himself) as "blessed" or "happy" (NCV)? The Amplified Bible explains the Hebrew Word translated, "blessed" as 'HAPPY, fortunate, to be envied'. It is as though that list of sins found its way to the trashcan and was disposed of forever; never to be brought up again.
Imagine the feeling of sin forgiven. Can you feel the freedom and excitement that it brings? The best part of this truth is the transforming effect it can have, between the sinner and the Saviour - renewed communication, fresh experience of grace, and mercy to replace guilt and shame. No wonder the wise man exclaimed, 'He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy' (Prov. 28:13). David understood this very well (Psa. 32:3,5), and our Lord instructs us through John the Beloved, to confess our sins and enjoy the joy and beauty of forgiveness (1 Jn. 1:8-10).
Dearly beloved, let us confess and repent of our sins. And when we have sincerely and genuinely done that, we should consider them completely gone, pardoned by the Father. Then, we bask in the euphoria of His love, and celebrate being cleansed and clean.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Go before God to tell Him about those sins that you still feel guilty about, that He should forgive and free you from guilt.
2. My heavenly Father, thank You for the forgiveness of my sins.
3. Pray for those who have been granted amnesty by nations and communities, all over the world, that they would no longer abuse such privileges.

TOPIC: GOD BLESSES AND RELEASES

Read 1 Samuel 16:1-13
1. And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
2. And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the Lord said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the Lord.
3. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.
4. And Samuel did that which the Lord spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?
5. And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the Lord: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6. And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord's anointed is before him.
7. But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
8. Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the Lord chosen this.
9. Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the Lord chosen this.
10. Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The Lord hath not chosen these.
11. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.
12. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
13. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

MEMORISE: Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah (1 Samuel 16:13)

EXPOSITION
In today's passage, we read how David was chosen and anointed by God. It was after this, he battled with the enemy and killed Goliath, while letting the whole nation know how he felt about the power of God. David understood the character of God, and reflected that in his own life. Paul spoke about this in Pisidian Antioch when he unfolded the history of Israel and said that God saw David as a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22). Please read Psalms 25.
However, David was not perfect; he made some bad choices with devastating consequences, and yet, God bless him. None of us is perfect either, and yet, God chooses to blessed us, too. David honoured Saul but dishonoured Uriah, Bathsheba's husband. We are complex beings who fluctuate between good and bad days/times/motives/actions.
As we consider David's life history, take time to reflect on your own life, so far - your past. How does it affect you? Do you let it hold you back?
Let's consider for a moment, something about God's character. He is good, compassionate, loving, forgiving, father-like and generous, among many other things. Let's also remind ourselves that we are made in God's image. We can reflect on God's character. Getting to know God's nature that He can heal and transform our own natures is part of releasing the beauty within. He wants to bless us and free us into wholeness.

PRAYER POINTS
1. O Lord, confirm Your divine power in my life, more than ever before, henceforth, in Jesus' name.
2. My God, guide and guard my steps against wrong decisions that can have devastating effects on my life and ministry, in Jesus' name.
3. Pray for the Christ Apostolic Church Men's Association (CACMA), that God should cause the group to be more vibrant for Him, in all respect, in and outside the denomination.

Read Mark 13:35-36
35. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36. Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

MEMORISE: Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping (Mark 13:35-36)

EXPOSITION
The great Dwight L. Moody used to say, "I never preached a sermon without thinking that possibly the Lord may come before I preach another". Dr. G Campbell Morgan, the distinguished British clergyman, said, "I never begin my work in the morning without thinking that perhaps He may interrupt my work and begin His own. I am not looking for death; I am looking for Him." That is the way a Christian should live his life in the constant anticipation of the return of Jesus Christ!
If we can live everyday as though it may be the very last before the final judgment, what a difference it would make here on earth! But we don't like to think that way. We don't like to think that our carefully made plans and our long range schemes may be interrupted by the trumpet of God. Too many people would rather say, "Oh, well, the end of the world hasn't come yet; so why think about it? It's probably a thousand years away".
Jesus is coming back, but no one can predict the time (Mk. 13:35). When He was going into the heavens, He promised that He would return for His own, the saints, the Church, His bride. He has promised to return for us, to take us to our prepared mansions in His eternal Kingdom (Jn. 14:1ff). Don't try to wait till the last minute before preparing. Such is dangerous, because you don't even know when the last minute would be. Why not accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, now, so that you can have the hope of heaven, and be ready to propagate the gospel of the Kingdom?

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, I ask for Your grace that will see me through, to the end, in Jesus' name.
2. Holy Spirit, help us all, leaders and followers, to be more concerned with making heaven rather than amassing worldly wealth, influence and affluence, at the expense of our souls.
3. Lord, let our pulpits be once again dominated by messages about the Second Coming of Christ, in Jesus' name.
