ACADEMIC MILESTONE: PIONEER SALESIAN THEOLOGIANS DEFEND LONG ESSAY AT ST. ARTEMIDE ZATTI THEOLOGATE
The St. Artemide Zatti Theologate in Bwari, Abuja, recorded a definitive historical milestone today as its pioneer cohort of Salesian theology students successfully defended their final long essays. The religious students completed their rigorous academic defense under the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology at Veritas University, Abuja. This exercise marks the very first graduation cycle since the theologate's establishment in 2023, transitioning the house into a fully realized center of ecclesiastical scholarship for the Salesians of Don Bosco.
Managed by the Africa Nigeria Niger (ANN) Province, the Bwari theologate serves as a vital formation hub for local scholars while remaining open to Salesian students from other provinces across the global congregation. Over the past three years, this diverse pioneer class has balanced community formation with intensive intellectual and pastoral training at the university. Today's successful defense serves as the ultimate validation of their academic journey and the collaborative standards maintained between the university faculty and the formation house.
With this final academic hurdle crossed, the pioneering class now stands on the threshold of graduation and subsequent pastoral assignments. The defence panel of noted that the depth of the presentations demonstrates a profound readiness among the candidates to apply theological research to contemporary societal challenges, setting a high benchmark for subsequent generations of theologians within the ANN province and beyond.

*ST. ANTHONY’S PARISH ZUMA HOLDS SOLEMN MEMORIAL MASS FOR LATE MRS. BENEDETH NNADI*

*ABUJA, Nigeria* – It was a sombre yet spiritually uplifting atmosphere at St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish, Zuma, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, as the faithful gathered for a Requiem Mass in honour of the late Mrs. Benedeth Nnadi. Mrs. Nnadi, affectionately known as *"MAMA FADA,"* was the mother of *Rev. Fr. Kenneth Nnadi, SDB, the Vice Rector of the Salesian Theologate Community in Bwari.*

The Parish, which serves as the primary apostolate for the Salesian Theologate, became a hub of communal mourning and celebration of a life well-lived. The liturgy drew a diverse congregation, including Salesian priests, brothers, and cooperators from various Salesian houses across Abuja, alongside the entire parishioners of St. Anthony’s, friends, and well-wishers who came to stand in solidarity with the Nnadi family.

The Mass was presided over by her son, Rev. Fr. Kenneth Nnadi, SDB. In a moving homily, *Rev. Fr. Dr. Norbert Attah* eulogized the deceased, describing her as a quintessential Christian mother whose devotion was a beacon of light. Fr. Attah noted that "Mama Father" led an exemplary life that served as the primary inspiration for her son’s vocation to the priesthood. He challenged the congregation to live out their Christian faith with such integrity and grace that it would naturally motivate others toward holiness and service to God.

The spirit of the Salesian family was palpable throughout the ceremony, reflecting the deep ties between the Bwari theologate and the local community. The presence of the Salesian cooperators further emphasized the collaborative mission of the order in the Federal Capital Territory.

At the conclusion of the Mass, the *Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Barnabas Shabayang,* who serves as both the Parish Priest of St. Anthony’s and the Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Veritas University, expressed profound gratitude to the attendees. He thanked the visiting clergy, the Salesian community, and the parishioners for their overwhelming support and prayers, noting that the large turnout was a testament to the impact Mrs. Nnadi had on those around her through her son’s ministry.

As *"Mama Fada"* begins her final journey, she leaves behind a legacy of faith and a son who continues to shepherd the flock in the Salesian tradition, a fitting tribute to a mother’s enduring prayer and example.

Today, we celebrate the feast of St. John Bosco, a father and friend to the young. He believed deeply that every child, especially the poor and abandoned, carries great dignity and potential.
St. John Bosco did not lead young people with fear or punishment. Instead, he guided them with reason, religion, and loving kindness. He listened to them, played with them, prayed with them, and walked with them in their struggles. Through this, he won their hearts for Christ.
In a world where many young people feel lost, ignored, or misunderstood, Don Bosco reminds us that love is the best teacher. When young people feel loved, they grow. When they feel respected, they change.
His life teaches us that holiness is not only found in churches and monasteries, but also in classrooms, playgrounds, workshops, and homes—where patience, sacrifice, and joy are lived daily.
Today, let us ask St. John Bosco to help us:
To care for the young,
To be patient with those who are weak,
To teach by example,
And to always lead others closer to Christ with love.
May his joyful spirit and generous heart inspire us to serve God and humanity faithfully.
St. John Bosco, pray for us. 🙏

NINE SALESIANS ORDAINED TO PRIESTHOOD IN ABUJA
Abuja, Nigeria – On July 19, 2025, the Salesians of Don Bosco of the Africa Nigeria Niger Province celebrated the ordination of nine of their confreres to the priesthood. The solemn ceremony took place at the Church of the Archangels in Gaduwa, Durumi, Abuja.
Most Rev. Dr. Ignatius Kaigama, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja and ordaining prelate, delivered a powerful charge to the ordinands. He urged them to refrain from the commercialization of the gospel and prosperity gospel, and to avoid clericalism. Instead, he emphasized the importance of embracing synodality in their priestly ministry. Archbishop Kaigama held up Don Bosco as their model and Father-founder, stressing that they should be priests who are close and available to young people, which is central to their mission.
The celebration was well-attended by a host of dignitaries and members of the Salesian family. Among those present were Fr. Peter Morba, the Provincial of the Africa Nigeria Niger Province, and Fr. James Ailen, the Vicar, along with the council and Salesians from within and outside the province. The joyous occasion also brought together parents and family members of the newly ordained, Salesian Cooperators, past pupils, and young people. Fr. Ambrose Anene, the Parish Priest, his community members, and the entire parishioners were also in attendance.
Fr. John Wiwoloku, speaking on behalf of his newly ordained colleagues, extended heartfelt gratitude. He thanked God for His graces upon them and expressed profound appreciation to everyone who was part of the celebration.
