THE IRRECONCILABILITY OF NATIONAL SOCIALISM AND CHRISTIANITY. (FOR YOUR RECORD).

Born on Nov. 10, 1483, in Eisleben, a small town in the state of Saxony (now central-eastern Germany), an electorate of the Holy Roman Empire, Martin Luther (1483-1546] was a theologian, composer, pastor and monk. One of both Western and church history's most significant figures, Luther played a key role in the Protestant Reformation, providing a case in point to King David's query in Psalm 11:3 (ESV): "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

Ordained to the priesthood in 1507 and spending his early years in relative anonymity as a monk and scholar, Luther came to prominence in 1517 with the publication of his 95 Theses, setting out a devastating critique of the church's sale of indulgences (certificates of forgiveness) and explaining the fundamentals of justification by faith and grace alone.

Prior to his 95 Theses, Luther had already translated parts of the Bible, such as the penitential psalms, the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer and the Magnificat (Mary's song of praise, Luke 1:46-55).

Luther deemed the Bible alone (sola scriptura) the ultimate authority for faith and practice. Regarding justification, he understood that "we are saved solely through faith in Jesus Christ because of God's grace and Christ's merit. We are neither saved by our merits nor declared righteous by our good works. Additionally, we need to fully trust in God to save us from our sins, rather than relying partly on our own self-improvement."

With the translation of the entire Bible, a work completed in 1534, Luther accomplished something "cataclysmic," in the view of Eric Metaxas in his New York Times' bestseller, Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy.

While the word "cataclysmic" generally carries a ruinous, harmful implication, in Metaxas' application it refers to the common man in Germany coming alive to the Word of God, which then transformed culture. It validated Jesus' guarantee in John 8:32 (MEV): "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free."

The simple rendering of the Word transformed "traditional Western moral and legal philosophy by making not reason but the Bible, and more particularly the Ten Commandments, the basic source and summary of natural law," wrote Harold J. Berman in his classic Law and Revolution, II: The Impact of the Protestant Reformations on the Western Legal Tradition.

Over the next two centuries, Christian focus in post-Lutheran German culture unfortunately began to fade. The key figures in the new movement were Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (1759-1805), German poet, philosopher, physician, historian and playwright, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), German poet, playwright, novelist, scientist, statesman, theater director, critic and amateur artist. Both became recognized as the greatest German literary figures of the modern era.

In a sense, their literary and cultural crusade led to secularization in the period known as "Weimar Classicism," relating to or concerned with the physical or material world as opposed to a spiritual one. On full display, German government-run education came to be captured by secularists. Interestingly, both Schiller and Goethe were reared in Lutheran Christian homes, and spent their early years studying Scripture.

Fast forward to early 20th-century Germany, where, as Metaxas elucidates, "On Jan. 30, 1933, at noon, Adolf Hi**er became democratically elected chancellor of Germany. The land of Goethe, Schiller and Bach would now be led by someone who consorted with crazies and criminals, who was often seen carrying a dog whip in public. The Third Reich had begun."

German culture, once decidedly Christian, was hailed as the world's most enlightened and profound. Next, Reich Chancellor Adolf Hi**er (1889-1945) began slowly buy surely eradicating anything Christian. His personal secretary, Martin Bormann (1900-1945)], head of the N**i Party Chancellery, let carelessly or unintentionally slip that "National Socialism and Christianity are irreconcilable." It revealed the real nature of the cultural war in Germany.

Bormann's disclosure underscores the spiritual nature of the battle for the soul of Germany and Hi**er's lust for world domination. It also accentuates Solomon's argument in Proverbs 29:2 (ESV) that "when the wicked rule [in power and control of the affairs of state], the people groan."

The N**i repression of Christianity resulted in "modernizing" the German calendar to devalue Christian celebrations and feasts, banning of carols and nativity scenes in schools and replacing Christmas with "Yuletide," (the pagan celebration of winter solstice, known as Yule, by Germanic peoples) according to Matthew Hughes and Chris Mann.

Germany had forsaken God, squandering its Christian heritage and biblically based culture. Rather than by natural lapses of memory, it had done so by willful neglect and indifferent impassivity, disregarding willingly the reality of God's enduring edict that a nation's greatness is dependent on its piety and ethics, not on its military mettle, erudite elitism or monetary magnitude.

Friedrich Schiller's observation of the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) can likewise be applied to his spiritual stewardship of late 18th-century Germany: "History brought forth a great moment, but the moment found a mediocre people."

A fitting comment is presented by Peter Leithart in his work -A Son to Me: An Exposition of 1 & 2 Samuel: "Goliath's armor is given unusually detailed attention. We never learn anything about David's armor after he became king. First Samuel 17:5 says that the Philistine giant was wearing 'scale armor', and the Hebrew word simply means 'scales.' This sort of armor is attested throughout the ancient Near East, but the fact that he is described as wearing 'scales' indicates that Goliath was a serpent."

If the Christian world and culture is to survive, Christians should begin to function in the public square as vanguards of Jesus' kingdom assignment provided in Matthew 16:18 (NIV): "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my ekklesia [assembly in the p***c square], and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." Praise be to God that Gideons and Rahabs are entering the public square.

TRAINING FOR BIVOCATIONAL MINISTRY INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CHURCH IN COLLABORATION WITH UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN.

THE QUESTION IS: Does being a bivocational minister mean serving a Church part-time while holding down a Secular job until the Church can pay you enough to go full time?

THE POPULAR ANSWER IS: In some cases the answer is yes. On the other hand, there is also a decided shift toward bivocational ministry as a ministry in its own right - inside and outside the Church in this age of confusion.

Changing demographics in ministry are trending increasingly toward bivocational ministry as a preferred path of service. This is the reason of secular humanism in the ministerial call to serve with the reasoning that the Apostle Paul, Aquila and Priscilla used their secular craftsmanship, and theological expertise as avenues of dual service for the Lord (Acts 18:1-4).

This does not mean that many bivocational ministers do not aspire to a full time position, but it does recognize that increasing numbers of men and women believe that there are distinct benefits to serving God in dual positions.

However, one of the challenges is that bivocational ministers are often shut out of many profitable non-ministry career positions due to a lack of adequate secular training. This is especially true in the business and professional world where their interpersonal skills make them ideal employees.

To meet the challenge, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN NIGERIA through her CONSULTANCY SERVE UNIT has sent a proposal for admission into the University for all WORD POWER BIBLE THEOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY students, AN INTERNATIONAL MEMBER SCHOOL OF AMERICAN MISSION TEAMS ORGANIZATION as to create a combined graduate degree option that provides both ministerial and appropriate secular training in one program.

The ministerial and employment benefits to the minister are obvious, but there is also another benefit to the Kingdom of God. Increasingly, local Churches are raising up their own leadership, and adding new and innovative ministry positions (part time and full time), particularly in large Churches.

Bivocational ministry is certainly multifaceted, and no single degree program can meet every need, but now for the first time, there is a degree program that meets the demand for training bivocational ministers inside and outside the Church!

AREAS OF INTEREST AND COVERAGE FROM UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN:

Theology And Philosophy
Theology And One Nigeria Language
Christian Education
Church Management
Church History
Pastoral Studies.
In Addition To Religious Studies.

By This, You Will Get Two Certifications – One From Each Of The Institutions. There Are Other Ones That Are Not Ministerially Related That Are Available.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE ARE COMPROMISING OUR SPIRITUAL AND ABSOLUTE BIBLICAL THEOLOGY AND TRUTH, BUT TO HARMONIZE THE HUMAN DESIRES IN THIS UNIVERSE WE ARE LIVING IN WITH ITS ATTENDANT DEMOGRAPHIC NUANCES.

I WANT TO BE AN OBED-EDOM. WHAT OF YOU?

"David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, 'How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?' He was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household." (2 Samuel 6:9-12)

It is important to give some background to this Scripture, as we must remember that the ark of God represented His power and presence to the nation of Israel. It was in the Tabernacle, behind the veil, where God’s presence dwelt and the sacrifices were offered on the Day of Atonement. I believe that the Ark was the most precious possession Israel had.

David dropped off the Ark while moving it to Jerusalem because he was afraid at God for slaying one of his men. While it was in the care of Obed-edom, that the Lord blessed the house and everything in it. Just like Obed-edom, we need to make room in our lives and homes for the Lord. I am aware that every believer possesses the Holy Spirit within. He is with us wherever we go, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all welcome the presence of the Lord or seek Him continually. I want to live in such a way that I welcome the Lord’s presence into my life daily. I want to wake in the morning to experience Him. I want to commune with Him throughout the day, and I want to speak with Him as I prepare to lie down at night.

We shouldn’t come near to God just to receive His blessings, but it is good to receive His abundance. I want all the Lord has to offer. I want to experience His presence and power in my life. I desire that for my family, our church, and our land. Having the Lord’s presence will not prevent difficulty, but it sure helps as we face those trials. Are you interested in the Lord’s presence? Make Him welcome in your life!

As the Lord blessed Obed-edom and his house, others began to notice. Eventually word came to David. Those who were aware of Obed-edom’s blessings soon told the king of God’s goodness. He possessed a strong witness to the goodness and favor of God. The life of Obed-edom testified of the God he served. This caused others to desire what Obed-edom had.

Wouldn’t it be great if every child of God possessed such a testimony? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the world had to take notice of our relationship with Christ? What if we all lived in such a way that it created a desire in the hearts of others for what we possess in the Lord? We have such an opportunity, but we must welcome the Lord into our lives as Obed-edom did.

Never underestimate the power of a life lived for Christ. There is always someone watching your life. They are aware of your faith, and many are watching to see what it produces. If you are saved by grace, you have the Spirit abiding within. You have the ability to be an effective witness for the Lord. Obed-edom didn’t do anything special. He simply welcomed the ark into his house and impacted the king. What would happen if we would welcome the Lord into every area of life? I am certain our lives would reflect the Lord more than they currently do, and we would make a significant impact on the lives of others.

This passage reveals the impact of a life lived in obedience to the Lord. It reveals the benefits of desiring the Lord and seeking His presence. I believe the average Christian is living well below their means spiritually. Is the Lord welcome in your life? Do you enjoy sweet fellowship with Him daily, or is it more of a rarity? We can enjoy His presence and power continually, but we must welcome His presence and humble ourselves before Him.
