Revive Thy Work, O Lord.
“Revive Thy Work, O Lord” is a powerful hymn of spiritual awakening written by Albert Midlane in the 19th century. The hymn was born out of a deep desire for spiritual renewal within the Church and society, calling on God to rekindle faith, righteousness, purpose, and godly living among His people. It is a prayer for renewal and the future of young lives .
Inspired by scriptures such as Habakkuk 3:2:
“O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years…”
the hymn is both a prayer and a challenge asking God to renew hearts, strengthen faith, and raise a generation committed to truth and service.
Its relevance to child and youth development cannot be overstated. In a world where young people are constantly exposed to distractions, confusion, and moral pressure, hymns like this become instruments of spiritual formation, discipline, character building, and moral guidance. Through sacred music, children learn values such as reverence, teamwork, patience, confidence, and devotion to God.
This inspiring hymn was beautifully rendered by Dennis Memorial Grammar School Choir during the 2025 edition of the Anglican Post Primary Singing Festival. Their performance was not only musical but deeply reflective reminding everyone that the future of the Church and society depends greatly on the spiritual and moral development of young people.
Indeed, every time children sing “Revive Thy Work, O Lord,” they become part of a prayer for a better generation, a stronger Church, and a renewed society.
When children sing sacred hymns, they are not just learning music they are learning values, faith, and purpose.
Which hymn do you believe has the greatest impact on shaping young minds and character?
