Ajik Sabo Gideon Rejects Claim by Sheikh Yahaya Jingre that Muslims Outnumber Christians in Plateau State.
Jos, Plateau State – Community advocate Ajik Sabo Gideon has faulted the recent claim by Sheikh Yahaya Jingre that Muslims are more in population than Christians in Plateau State.
_“I condemn in totality the false and misleading narrative that Muslims are more populated than Christians in Plateau State. There is no census, no credible data, and no verifiable evidence to support such a claim.”_
Ajik Sabo Gideon’s Position:
1. Unverified and provocative: There has been no official religious population census in Nigeria. Any claim about religious majority in Plateau State is speculative and designed to provoke tension.
2. Facts on ground: The widely accepted position, based on church presence, voting patterns, local government demographics, and historical settlement, is that Christians form the majority in Plateau State. Plateau is regarded nationally as a Christian-majority state in the Middle Belt.
3. Dangerous narrative: Making such unsubstantiated claims at a time when Plateau is recovering from communal tensions is dangerous. It attempts to rewrite the identity of the state and create unnecessary competition between faiths.
4. Call for evidence: _“If Sheikh Yahaya Jingre has credible data, let him present it. Otherwise, he should retract the statement and stop misleading the public.”_
5. Peace over propaganda: Ajik Sabo Gideon calls on religious leaders to focus on unity, security, and development rather than population contests. _“Plateau does not need a census of faith. We need peace, schools, hospitals, and jobs for both Christians and Muslims.”_
Quote from Ajik Sabo Gideon:
_“You cannot build peace with falsehood. The claim that Muslims are more than Christians in Plateau is not true, it is not backed by
