DIOCESE OF LAGOS WEST West (Anglican Communion)

ROYAL GEMS & VESSELS Zonal Seminar Saturday, 18th April, 2026

Theme: WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE

Topic: A Call To Choose Side

Text: Matthew 5:17

In Matthew 5:17, Jesus declared, _“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”_ With these words, Christ drew a clear line. He did not come to sit on the fence — He came to take a stand for truth, righteousness, and the will of the Father.

“A Call To Choose Side” reminds every Royal Gem and Vessel that life offers no neutral ground. In a world of shifting values, God is calling young people to be deliberate about their allegiance. You are either standing with Christ and His Word, or standing against Him.

To be on the Lord’s side means:
1. *Affirming His Word* – We do not edit, water down, or apologize for Scripture. Like Jesus, we uphold and fulfill it in our conduct.
2. *Living Distinctly* – Gems shine because they are different from stones. Vessels are useful because they are set apart. We cannot live like everyone else and still claim we’re on the Lord’s side.
3. *Counting the Cost* – Choosing His side may bring misunderstanding, but it also brings identity, authority, and eternal reward.

As Royal Gems and Vessels of the Diocese of Lagos West, this is your season to rise and be counted. The fence is crowded, but the side of the Lord is glorious.

WHAT SIDE ARE YOU ON ?
Choose wisely.
Choose boldly.
Choose now.

Bishop Odedeji tasks Women to Embrace Purpose, Strengthen Homes Through Faith and Commitment

Women have been encouraged to uphold strong moral values, remain committed to their families, and embrace purposeful living as key pillars for building successful homes and a better society.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, the Right Reverend, James Olusola Odedeji made the call during this year's Mothers Union Enrollment held on Sunday at Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral Church, Ikeja.

Speaking on the theme Who is on the Lord's Side, the Bishop emphasized the importance of faith, diligence, and intentional decision-making in marriage and motherhood.

Drawing inspiration from the life of Ruth, he reminded the women that making the right choices can transform lives and destinies, highlighting
Ruth’s loyalty, resilience, and faith in God as timeless virtues every woman should emulate.

Quoting from the Book of Proverbs Chapter 31, Bishop Odedeji also encouraged Women to be industrious, contribute meaningfully to their households, and uphold integrity in all areas of life, advising them not to be discouraged by difficult beginnings but to see every stage of life as an opportunity for growth.
About 450 women were enrolled into the mothers Union by the Bishop.
Other side attractions include prophetic prayers, Thanksgiving, presentation of gifts to best performing Archdeaconries in terms of revenue generation and population.
