MORNING PRAYER

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12

INSPIRATION

There is an unseen battle that goes on all around us, and though we see it not, we are engaged in that war. When we fight like good soldiers of Jesus Christ against doctrines of demons (1 Timothy 4:1) and against everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, we are fighting the Devil whether we know it or not.

PRAYER

O Lord, when we present your Word to others and challenge false beliefs, when we evangelize the lost, when we seek to destroy strongholds of sin in our own hearts, we are not ultimately wrestling against flesh and blood. We are fighting against the kingdom of Satan. We need your power and wisdom to win that fight, and we ask you to empower us to fight and win it today.

MORNING PRAYER

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
Proverbs 4:27

INSPIRATION

Solomon instructs his son to establish his paths ahead of time (verse 26) and then to not turn aside one way or the other, "to the right hand or to the left. " We should be people of purpose who ponder our path of life, not people who wander aimlessly and are drawn ultimately into evil deeds.

PRAYER

Lord, help us to consider our ways and to ponder the path of our feet. Give us a clear vision of what we should do and where we should go and then keep us focused on doing your will, not distracted by the allurements of the world. The world's "Vanity Fair" offers the pleasures of sin for a season, but lies in the heart of the "City of Destruction. " Let us seek the pleasures of God instead and hunger and thirst after His righteousness.

MORNING PRAYER

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
Psalms 4:1

INSPECTION

Whenever we come to God with a request, we should remember what David here remembers, that it is only a matter of mercy that God would hear his prayer. David was a great man of God, a "man after God's own heart, " but even he did not presume to make demands on God but instead cried out for mercy.

PRAYER

I come before you today, O my God, not with any confidence in my own righteousness. But you are the "God of my righteousness, " even as you were to David of old. I come to your in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and present my petition before you. I come not as collecting something due to me from you but as one who seeks your mercy.

MORNING PRAYER

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
Romans 3:21-22

INSPECTION

Paul refused to rely on a righteousness of his own. He trusted instead in the "righteousness of God, " meaning "the righteousness that comes from God. " That is an imputed righteousness, one that is credited to us although we did not perform it. By faith in Jesus we receive that righteousness. It covers us like a garment, pure and white.

PRAYER

Root out all human pride in us, Lord. Cast out of our hearts any lingering trust in our own ability to keep your Law and work out our acceptability in your sight. Your Law is too tall for us to surmount and its shadow too long for us to escape. There is no hiding place from the negative merit of our own sin but in your Son. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER

For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
Mark 9:41

INSPIRATION

Throughout the New Testament, we see examples of Jesus giving water to those who are thirsty. While this holy water is symbolic for the water of life that only comes from believing in Jesus, Jesus also tells his followers that if they give actual water to those who are thirsty because they follow him, they will be rewarded. Those serving Jesus should not just be sharing the Gospel with others, but also giving to those in need of food and drink. We are called to help those in need – sometimes it begins with offering a cup of water.

PRAYER

Dear God, allow me to see those who are in need and show me how to meet their basic needs as well as their spiritual needs. Help me not to overlook how serving in simple ways shows the love of Jesus. Give me opportunities to love others following your example. Thank you for sending your son, Jesus Christ, to not only save me from my sins, but to be an example of love for all mankind. May I live a love of love that brings others to you. In Jesus' name, amen.

MORNING PRAYER

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11

INSPIRATION

Have you ever compared your sins to someone else's sins? We know we should not do so, but we often fall into this comparison trap. However, we know that God extends forgiveness to all those who sin – even those who have sinned differently than you. Even those with the "dirtiest" sins may be "washed" clean. Those who place their trust in Jesus Christ and seek his forgiveness will be forgiven and sanctified through his name. The next time you are tempted to judge someone else's past against your own, resist! We have all been justified through Christ!

PRAYER

Dear God, it is easy to fall into comparison and believe that one sinner is worse than another. But, thank you, Lord, that your forgiveness extends beyond our human understanding. Your son's blood washed and covered all our sins – hallelujah! This heavenly justification is hard to understand, but help me to remember that your love knows no human boundaries. When I am tempted to revisit sin, remind me that I have been sanctified and set apart. May my life honor all you have done for me. In Jesus' name, amen.

MORNING PRAYER

Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
Proverbs 26:20

INSPIRATION

What keeps a campfire burning? Without wood, the fire will burn out. In the same way, gossip is something that needs a flame to spread. In this case, the flame is an individual with a mouth that speaks. Gossip cannot be spread if people are not speaking it. Do you struggle with gossip? If so, you must stop! This is a sin – instead, as a believer, you should speak uplifting words to and about others. If you happen to hear gossip, do not share it. This is one way, as a Christian, you can help extinguish this flame (or cease this tale).

PRAYER

Dear God, help me not to gossip about others. Watch my words and my heart and guard my intentions. When someone gossips about someone else around me, help me to cease this type of talk. When I am tempted to speak out something unkind about someone, remind me that this individual is precious in your sight. Help me use only words that edify others and draw others closer to you. Thank you, Lord, for providing us the perfect example of how to love others with your son, Jesus Christ, our savior. In Jesus' name, amen.

MORNING PRAYER

And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.
Judges 2:7

INSPIRATION

Joshua witnessed many mighty acts of the Lord as God led the Israelites through the desert with Moses. The people of Israel served the Lord while Joshua was alive and while others who had seen God's works were alive. It is much easier to have faith when you witness things first or second hand. It's harder when you believe without seeing. Jesus said that those who believe without seeing are blessed. Let's have faith in our great God even though we have not seen.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You are great. Your character has never changed. You were the same yesterday and You will be the same tomorrow. I can always count on You. I have not seen Your face, but I have read of Your works throughout history. Make my faith stronger, and help me to believe. Have faith for me when I lack faith. In Jesus' name. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
John 17:20-21

INSPIRATION

As Christians, we have to be mindful of the way we treat people. How we interact with each other, as brothers and sisters in Christ, will be a reflection, to the world, of God's Love. We are to be messengers of God love in our words and in our actions. Because of salvation, we are already at peace with God, but it is now our responsibility to exercise the love of God in our hearts, by treating everyone around us right. Be quick to reconcile with your brothers and sisters in the Lord, and be slow to cause arguments.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I ask that you help me to always be mindful of my actions towards the people around me. In a world where so many men, women, and children are oppressed on a daily basis, Father may I be different to those who take delight in oppressing others. I desire to be at peace with everyone in my life, and it is only with your help, O Lord, that I can achieve this. My desire, Father, is to be an example of your love, to the people of this world. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
