OFFICIAL REBUTTAL AND DISOWNMENT OF AN UNAUTHORISED PUBLICATION PURPORTING TO HAVE BEEN ISSUED IN THE NAME OF “5 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS. LEAGUE OF IMĀMS AND ALFAS OF IJEBULAND”

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

The attention of the leadership and the membership of the League of Imāms and Alfas of Ijebuland, and of the general public, has been drawn to a widely circulated announcement purporting to speak on behalf of the League. Legitimate institutional communication derives its authority from constitutional process, institutional consensus, and consultation — never from unilateral publication by unidentified persons.

The document in question satisfies none of these conditions. It names no authorising officer, cites no resolution of the League's constitutionally recognised executive, and offers no basis whatsoever on which the public might verify its legitimacy.

This is not a clerical error, and it is not a misunderstanding requiring gentle correction. It is a calculated, premeditated attempt to hijack the leadership and structure of an institution its perpetrators neither built, nor lead, nor have any standing to represent — the seizure, by stealth and by forgery of authority, of a name, seal, and legacy held in trust for the entire body of Imāms and Alfas across the *six local government areas of Ijebuland: Ijebu North, Ijebu East, Ogun Waterside, Odogbolu, Ijebu North East, and Ijebu Ode, seat of the League's presidency.*

That last omission is not incidental. The publication's list of constituent local governments conspicuously excludes Ijebu Ode; the one area whose Imāms and Alfas anchor the very presidency the League currently and permanently holds. This is not carelessness; it is method. To erase the seat of the presidency from the League's own constituent structure, while simultaneously claiming to announce on the League's behalf, is to attempt the quiet redrawing of the institution's legitimate leadership out of existence. The design behind this publication is therefore not confusion but exclusion, and its purpose is not communication but capture.

The League states plainly: it has no relationship, no affiliation, and no association of any kind — present or future — with the faceless, disgraceful, disgruntled, self-centred, self-serving, self-aggrandising, and selfish elements and individuals behind this publication. They do not speak for the League. They have never spoken for the League. They possess no mandate, no office, and no legitimacy to speak for the League. They are impostors trading falsely on a name they have done nothing to earn and everything to betray. They are agents of confusion whose concealment is not caution but confession.

Genuine leadership does not hide; it does not skulk behind unnamed authorship while claiming to speak for thousands. No answer has ever been offered to the one question that matters: by whose mandate do you speak? None exists, because none was ever given.

Authentic leadership in Islam derives its legitimacy from ʿadl (justice), shūrā (consultation), ṣidq (truthfulness), and amānah (trust) and not from self-appointment, and certainly not from the unilateral redrawing of an institution's own membership to suit a private agenda. An organisation that commands public confidence does so by fidelity to these principles and to its constitution; a publication that abandons both, while dressing itself in the language of unity and Da'wah, has forfeited any claim to speak for the League it purports to represent. Attractive publicity materials and carefully crafted slogans are no substitute for due process, inclusiveness, and constitutional fidelity — and no claim to unity can be taken seriously from a document that begins by erasing one of the League's own six constituent areas.

Members of the League and the general public are urged to treat this publication, and any other communication of similarly unverifiable origin, with the disregard it merits. Every genuine communication of the League can be verified through its recognised leadership; nothing that fails this test should be trusted, however professionally it is presented.

The Muslim community is equally urged to reject every attempt to personalise an institution whose strength has always resided in collective responsibility, and to reject the substitution of personality cults or sectional manoeuvring for principled, constitutional leadership.

This statement is issued not to inflame tensions but to reaffirm the supremacy of constitutional order, institutional legitimacy, and collective responsibility within the League of Imāms and Alfas of Ijebuland. The League's future depends not on anonymous publications or unilateral assertions of authority, but on faithful adherence to its constitution, respect for its legitimate leadership across all six of its constituent local governments — Ijebu Ode included — and unwavering commitment to justice, consultation, trust, and truthfulness.

The League remains steadfast in its historic mission of promoting Islamic scholarship, Daʿwah, communal harmony, and principled leadership. It invites all members to uphold constitutional governance, preserve institutional unity, and channel every legitimate concern through the recognised structures established by the League's constitution.

May Allah unite our hearts upon truth, preserve the dignity of our institutions, and guide us all to that which promotes justice, unity, and righteousness. Āmīn.

NEW YEAR MESSAGE ON THE OCCASION OF 1448 A.H.

All praise is due to Allāh, Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our noble Prophet Muḥammad (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam), his family, his companions, and all those who faithfully follow his guidance until the Day of Judgement.

As we welcome the advent of the New Islamic Year, 1448 A.H., I extend my warmest felicitations to all Muslims in Ijebuland, Ogun State, Nigeria, and across the globe. We thank Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) for granting us the opportunity to witness another year in the blessed calendar of Islām. This occasion serves not merely as a chronological transition but as a profound spiritual reminder of the historic Hijrah of the Prophet Muḥammad (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam), a monumental event that symbolises faith, sacrifice, resilience, hope, and the triumph of truth over adversity.

The beginning of a new Hijrī year invites every believer to engage in sincere self-assessment, spiritual renewal, and greater commitment to righteousness. It is a time to strengthen our relationship with Allāh, uphold the noble values of honesty, justice, compassion, moderation, and mutual respect, and rededicate ourselves to the service of humanity. As individuals and communities, we must strive to embody the lofty ethical teachings of Islām in our homes, workplaces, educational institutions, and public engagements.

I urge our youths to remain steadfast upon sound moral values, pursue beneficial knowledge, and contribute positively to societal development. Likewise, I encourage parents, scholars, community leaders, and all stakeholders to intensify efforts towards nurturing responsible citizens who will uphold the dignity of our faith and contribute meaningfully to national progress.

At a time when our nation and the wider world continue to face various socio-economic and security challenges, we must not despair. Rather, we should strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, support the vulnerable, and continuously seek divine guidance through prayer and righteous action. Our collective prosperity is closely linked to our commitment to justice, unity, discipline, and the fear of Allāh.

On behalf of the League of Imams and Alfas of Ijebuland, I pray that Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) makes the year 1448 A.H. a year of abundant blessings, sound health, enduring peace, spiritual growth, lawful prosperity, and remarkable achievements for all. May He protect our families, guide our leaders, strengthen our communities, and grant our beloved nation greater stability, harmony, and progress.

Happy New Hijrī Year 1448 A.H.
