A REMINDER FOR CHRISTIANS
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In our journey of faith, it's crucial to draw wisdom from the scriptures to guide us in our daily lives. One such verse that carries profound significance for us as Christians is Hebrews 9:27: "And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment."
These words serve as an admonition, a reminder, and a call to action. Let us delve into the depths of this verse and explore its relevance to our Christian walk.
1. The Inescapable Appointment: The verse begins by stating, "it is appointed for man to die once." This is an unalterable truth, a divine decree that every living soul will one day face death. No one is exempt from this appointment. It doesn't matter whether we are rich or poor, young or old, healthy or ill; we are all bound by this common fate.
2. The Afterlife Reality: The second part of the verse reminds us of the profound reality that follows our earthly journey - "and after that comes judgment." This judgment is not a mere formality; it is an assessment of our lives, our actions, and our faith in Christ. Our choices, deeds, and intentions will all be laid bare before the Almighty.
3. The Urgent Call to Preparation: Hebrews 9:27 should serve as a wake-up call for every Christian. It urges us to prepare for the afterlife, not with fear, but with hope and faith. This preparation involves living a life that reflects our commitment to Christ, following His teachings, and spreading His love to others.
4. Reflecting on Our Choices: Are we living in a manner that aligns with the teachings of Jesus? Are we treating others with kindness, compassion, and love? Are we seeking forgiveness for our sins and extending forgiveness to those who have wronged us? These are the questions we must ask ourselves regularly.
5. Embracing God's Grace: It's essential to remember that judgment isn't just about our deeds but also about our faith in Christ. Through Him, we have access to God's grace and forgiveness. When we confess our sins and place our trust in Jesus, our past sins are forgiven, and we are born anew in Him.
6. Sharing the Good News: Hebrews 9:27 also reminds us of our mission to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. As we prepare for the afterlife, let us extend a helping hand to those who are yet to hear the saving message of Jesus, ensuring that they too have the opportunity to embrace the grace that leads to eternal life.
In conclusion, Hebrews 9:27 serves as a profound admonition for Christians. It encourages us to live with the awareness of our earthly mortality and the reality of God's judgment. However, this verse is not meant to instill fear but to inspire us to live purposefully, faithfully, and lovingly in Christ. Let us seize the opportunity to prepare for the afterlife by aligning our lives with God's will and sharing His love with the world.
May God's grace and guidance be with us all as we journey toward our eternal home.
In Christ's love,
Bamishaye Bamidele Emmanuel
