FAITH VS FEAR (2 Timothy 1:7)
Second Timothy 1:7 says “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love. And of a sound mind.”
Psychologists define fears and anxieties as, “what a person experiences when faced with an event that they cannot control or predict or that which seems threatening or dangerous. Fear is a reaction to a perception of immediate danger that is characterized by a strong desire to escape the situation.”
Too many times it is fear that incapacitates us. It’s fear that keeps us from realizing our full potentials. Not lack of skill, not lack of opportunity, not lack of money or influence. It’s fear and the paralyzing grip that it gets on us that threatens to keep people from trusting and obeying God.
The enemy uses fear to paralyze, immobilize, and render our faith useless. Fear will break you down physically, mentally, and spiritually. It is the Devils plan to destroy as many Christian as possible and he achieves that by implanting fear in their hearts.

FAITH AND FEAR ARE OPPOSITE
The antidote for fear is faith in the Almighty. Fear is the direct opposite of faith. It is either we face faith with our backs turned to fear, or we face fear with our backs turned to faith. The great Job during the period of his travails confessed “For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come upon me.” (Job 3:25)
Fear is a spirit that does not emanate from God. It’s not so much that fear is a sin. Fear is not the problem; it’s how we respond to it. All of us are born with a set of instinctive fears: of falling, of the dark, of speaking in the public or before an audience, etc.”
Brethren do not respond to the spirit of fear. Do not allow the spirit of fear overwhelm you and take away your faith. When ever you hear words that terrifies you or you are faced with a disastrous or panicky situation, always remember Psalm 91:7 “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand: but it shall not come nigh thee.”
Fear is not from God. Fear is from the Devil. As Christians we are commanded as many as 365 times in the bible to “fear not”

WHAT FEAR MAKES US LOSE

Fear usually comes when there is an element of risk. How we respond to the fear is determined by our willingness to take the risk or not – Are we willing to pay the price for success or failure?
Too often, we aren’t willing to pay the price. We see the risks as seeming too big to take.
There is, however, a price to pay for not taking the risk. That is the cost of living in fear.
Consider the following cost of living in fear:

1. Loss of Self-Esteem:
Fear makes you lose confidence in yourself. You may be very well endowed with a lot of potentials, you may be very intelligent, attractive and well liked, but once fear sets in you begin to doubt yourself and struggle with self-esteem. You develop the feeling of inadequacy and incapability. Steve Lawson says, “All research suggests that self-esteem largely boils down to one issue: When you face a difficult situation, do you approach it, take action, and face it head on, or do you avoid it, wimp out, and run and hide?”

2. Loss of Destiny:
Fear can make you lose God’s direction for your life. Reality is, if you live in fear, you will never experience the potential that God has placed in you. You may find yourself where the Devil desires of you. A colleague of mine in the office once said to me that “Fear births failure.” Fear is a major barrier to achieving success. We are capable of succeeding in several ventures, but we may not be able to do that until we break the fear barrier. Brethren be bold and take hold of your destiny .

3. Loss of Joy:
There’s no two ways about it. Fear kills joy. Living in fear, worry or anxiety will destroy your joy. Too often those who are caught on the grip of fear play the “what if” game. What if something bad happens? What if this doesn’t work? What if I fail? What if...What if…What if? You lose your inner joy when fear overtakes you.

4. Loss of Authentic Intimacy:
Fear makes you withdraw from people and also from God. Fear and hiding seem to go hand in hand. Too often our biggest fear is that others might see the “real me”. Fear is usually translated – weakness. The last thing we want is to get in a position of vulnerability and let others see our weaknesses, so we tend to be overly cautious and withdrawn from people. Fear and embarrassment is a state of the mind.
“I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” – Adam (Genesis 3:10)

5. Loss of Availability to God:
The paralyzing grip that fear has on us will cloud our vision. When we are in bo***ge to fear, we have a hard time hearing and responding to God. We most likely don’t want to have anything to do with Him. We can’t see the freedom and life that He offers because we are so distracted and deceived by our fear. Our worries can thoroughly block our vision of the light of God’s promises, but the fact is, they have little substance to them.

HOW TO GET RID OF FEAR

Dr. Larry Ollison wrote in his book The Practical Handbook for Christian Living, “Fear is negative. Faith is positive. Fear is associated with hate, greed, stress, worrying, sadness, depression, and so on. Faith is associated with love, generosity, peace, power, rest and relaxation (not laziness), joy, and laughter.”
God is a God of faith and it takes faith to please Him. Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Satan is the author of fear and uses fear in an attempt to destroy faith. Everything that pleases God, Satan hates – and faith pleases God.
In order to get rid of fear, we must develop faith. Here are some basic steps to completely remove fear from your life.

1. Plug into God’s Power: Develop a positive and active faith in God. Faith can be described in these two words – Assurance and Certainty. Be always sure and certain that God has unlimited power and can do anything He says He will do. Believe that He is the “I Am”, He is who He says He is. Believe in His promises – He will do what He says He will do. (see Ephesians 3:16-21)

2. Listen to the Word of God: You have to keep listening to the Word of God and quit listening to the words of the devil. Proverbs 1:33 NKJV says “But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.”

3. Speak the Word of God: Be a master of the Word of God. Always speak the Word of God and quit speaking the words of the devil. “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4: 12 NIV). Speak the Word of God to any fear-causing situation, it will surly break it down. Jeremiah 23:29 NIV says “Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD, and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?”

4. Act on the Word of God: Put your faith to work. Act in faith and doubt not the Word and promises of God. “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also” (James 2:26 KJV)

5. Speak and Act Love: Let all your speech and actions be motivated by love and expunge pride, arrogance and hate from your life. 1 John 4:18 NKJV says succinctly that “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love”

OVERCOMING YOUR LIMITATIONS (1 John 5: 4-5)
WHAT IS A LIMIT?
A limit is a peg, hindrance or barrier that defines restriction. For example, a SPEED LIMIT restricts the car to a certain speed, even though the car was built for a much higher speed and can move faster than the limit. A limit is that thing that does not allow you to maximize your potential. Jeremiah 4 v 3 says, “BREAK UP YOUR FALLOW GROUNDS”
TYPES OF LIMITATION:
When God created us, He imbued in us so much potentials to achieve greatness. However certain limitations either innate or external to us may hinder us from maximizing our potential. These limitations include but not restricted to the following;
1. Physical limitations: You are unable to do what you want to do because of certain physical challenges such as certain disabilities like deafness, blindness, being a cripple, having your limbs cut off etc.
2. Family background: You may be born into a poor family which makes it difficult for you to achieve greatness. You could also have family mistakes hanging over your life. Some family traditions like the “Osu” tradition of the Ibo speaking tribes can be an hinderance to you achieving your God given potentials in life.
3. Self-imposed limitations: Pride, arrogance, anger, stubbornness, domineering attitude, unteachable attitude, unforgiveness, untrustworthy, disrespectful and abusive attitude, drug and alcohol abuse, etc. All these could hinder your potential to doing great things in life.
4. Spiritual limitations: Immorality and sexual sins, occultism, visiting diviners, shrines and enchanters, fear, prayerlessness, distancing from Christ and things of God, etc.
OVERCOMING LIMITATIONS
Brethren you can overcome your limitations through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Only Him can do what no man can do. However, overcoming your limitations does not depend on God/Christ alone. The responsibilities are also laid on you and me; it is a matter of choice. “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5: 4-5). The following advice will help you to overcome your limitations
1. Have a consistent relationship with God.
2. Read, study and meditate the word of God and God’s destiny for your life. (Romans 10:17; 2 Timothy 2:15; John 1:8).
3. Disassociate yourself from all ungodly relationships and assemblies
4. Identify/define your purpose of existence and discover your place in destiny, then follow it with all your strength.
5. Give yourself to prayer and fasting, in your prayer ask God to reveal the mystery behind your lineage and the solutions.
6. Give yourself to hard work and commitment, be thirsty to get more information and make the best use of each information you garner.
7. Be ambitious, don’t be satisfied about your present position, dream big and work towards achieving greatness.
8. Draw your strength from the fountain of life, Jesus Christ and do not trust in your own ability.
PRAYER POINTS
Pray these prayers with me;
1. Lord break every yoke of limitation, whether visible or invisible in my life in pieces in Jesus name.
2. Father deliver me from every limiting force operating in my life today in Jesus name.
3. Every voice of limitation speaking against my advancement in life, be silenced now in Jesus name.
4. O Lord my God, by the blood of Jesus uproot every seed of limitation in my life and destroy every household covenant operating in me to restrict my destiny in Jesus name.
5. My father divinely separate me from every friendly and unfriendly friend serving as channel of limitation in my life in Jesus name.
6. By the power of God, I receive the supernatural empowerment to be unlimited from today in Jesus matchless name. Amen

REASONS FOR PRAISE (Rev 4:11)
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Rev. 4:11)
WHAT IS PRAISE?
Webster defines the word praise as to say good things about and it is synonymous to words such as admire, commend, extol, honor, and worship.
But as a Christian I wish to define praise as the joyful thanking and adoring of God, the celebration of His goodness and grace. This simply implies that the act of praising is rightfully due to God alone.
If we have the realization that God is our creator, then we have no option than to praise Him. But many people fail to recognize this and instead of praising God they end up praising fallible human beings because they lack the truth. They hero-worship the pastors and so-called men of God making them take the place of the Almighty in the scheme of things. Hear what St. Paul says about such people “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worship serve created things rather than the Creator – who is forever praised. Amen.” (Romans 1:25, NIV).
Praise is very important to God hence, He talks about it 225 times in His Word. We as His children must recognize that He is our Creator; He is our Lord, and as result, we should praise Him continually. “Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gate with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.” (Psalm 100:3-4, ESV).
WHY PRAISE GOD?
Apart from the fact that God created us and for that we must praise and worship Him, there are countless other reasons why it is important for us to praise our God the maker of the world and all it’s contents. In fact, when we consider the reasons why we should praise God, we find a list of His attributes. Some of these attributes we are going to espouse in this peace.
1. God is worthy of our praise
God is a great God deserving and worthy to receive all our praises. The following verses allude to this fact
• Psalm 96:4(NIT) “For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods"
• Psalm 145:4 (NIT) "Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom"
• 2 Samuel 22:4 (NIT) "I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies"
• Rev. 4:11 (NIT) "You are worthy, our LORD and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being"

2. God is full of glory
The Almighty God is a glorious God. His glory is wonderous and awesome. If you read carefully through the old testament you will encounter the awesomeness of the glory of the Lord. The bibles says “And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the cloud. And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.” (Exodus 24: 16-17, KLV). Also see Psalm 138:5
3. God is Great, wise and powerful.
He is a great God and performs great acts. Duet. 11:7 “But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the Lord which he did.” Psalm 145:3-4 says “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.
He is a wise and powerful God. “Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.” (Daniel 2: 20-23, KJV).
4. God is a good God
Psalm 107:8 “Oh that men would praise the Lord goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”
5. God is a merciful, gracious and faithful God
Psalm 89:1 “I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.” And in Exodus 33:19 God clearly declared “I will make my glory goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.” See also Psalm 103:1-3.
6. God is our Salvation
Psalm 18:46 “The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.”
7. He is a promise keeping God.
1 Kings 8:56 “Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: There hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.”

Praising God is useful and favourable for us as His children because by praising Him, we are reminded of the greatness of God! His power and presence in our lives is reinforced in our understanding. "Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant" (Psalm 135:3).
Praise is a vital part of a life surrendered to God, and it gives credit where credit is due. “O that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” (Psalm 107:8 KJV).
Brethren I need us to know that if men created by God will not praise him, God is able to raise inanimate objects to praise Him. When Jesus was entering Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, great crowds gathered and offered Him their praises. The Pharisees wanted Him to rebuke the people, but Jesus answered, “I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out” (Luke 19:40 KJV). Though there are many people who choose not to praise God right now, there is coming a day in which every knee will bow and every tongue will confess the praises of God (Philippians 2: 10-11). Some will joyfully give those praises because of the salvation they have received, while some will give those praises as conquered enemies headed for eternal punishment for their rejection of God.
“Oh that men would praise the Lord goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”
