Methodism emerged from John and Charles Wesley’s Pentecostal and evangelical experiences in May 1738, 280 years ago. Charles, the younger brother of John experienced his evangelical conversion on Pentecost Sunday May 21, three days afterwards John also was able to believe to the salvation of his soul at a Moravian society meeting in a room on Aldersgate Street in London. A pre-Pentecost Charles ‘sterile and unproductive poetry and hymnody’ experienced a decent of the Holy Spirit. Among his post-Pentecost hymns, ‘O, that l had a thousand tongues to sing my Great Redeemers’s praise; And Can it be that I should Gain; Where shall my wondering soul begin?’ testify to the power of the Holy Spirit over human’s helplessness. One can be involved in mission work and trips, yet be consumed by a deep spiritual void. John and Charles experienced the void in the American colonies. Charles’ Pentecost experience not only served as a transforming but a renewing impetus towards John’s experience on May 24th thereby the two brothers walked and worked in similar Pentecostal and evangelical path because, ‘an assurance was given…’ them. From the Wesleys’ ‘heartwarming’ experiences, Pentecost points to change and harvest of souls through evangelism. Personal Pentecost could change any ‘child of wrath and hell … to become’a child of God.’

The reflection is that every wondering souls or preachers, declining churches could begin again through personal Pentecost (rebirth). Pentecost fire consumes our decline and finality to ashes – ashes to ashes, dust to dust theology. Ashes of decline or barrenness do not have the final say over us, the Fire of Energy of God’s love ‘comes to bless, to call, to inspire, to give to us what we could never begin to imagine on our own.’ 2018 Pentecost Sunday incorporate the Wesleyan heritage as an opportunity for a new beginning, ‘Thy Kingdom Come,’ through spiritual rebirth (Jn 3:5). Personal Pentecost is the soul of Methodism and it challenges our present decline and church closures. The Methodist records and events of May 21 and 24, 1738 challenge the present generation to reconsider our faith affirmation in the Holy Spirit every time we recite the Creed. According to John Owen, ‘every time we say we believe in the Holy Spirit, we mean we believe that there is a living God able and willing to enter human personality and change it.’ Do we really believe Methodist belief? If we believe, have we received the Holy Spirit? The problem is that, one can recite without believing or receiving it hence, we have many Methodists within the Methodist and Christians within the Church. The fruit of our neglect of the Holy Spirit is the secret of the church decline and society’s moral decadence.

Charles Spurgeon said, ‘a church in the land without the Spirit is rather a curse than a blessing. If you have not the Spirit of God, Christian worker, remember that you stand in somebody else’s way; you are a fruitless tree standing where a fruitful tree might grow.’ Charles and John Wesley were fruitful trees and a blessing to their generation. Today, the Church is very rich in the theology of Holy Spirit, but according to Samuel Chadwick, ‘there is a dearth of conversion … the signs of death abound.’ We need a ‘living consciousness of His presence and power.’ Methodist Pentecost at 280 calls us to a personal Pentecost as the basis to our corporate spiritual rebirth, and remedy to our decline and empty pews, so as to become ‘converting furnaces.’ Resurrection opened the grave but found the disciples ‘shivering behind closed doors’; ascension opened heaven for the Holy Spirit to descend upon the disciples to preach with boldness with sign and wonders. Pentecost as the conclusion of the Easter cycle of spirituality (fiftieth day after Easter) makes the difference with the decent of the Holy Spirit.

At 280 of Methodist Pentecost and beyond our present sense of hopelessness and helplessness, Ezekiel’s poetic and metaphor of the lamenting bones of the people and wrought from that image the vision of the valley of dry bones, God is calling us to cast a prophetic and redemptive vision for people of God’s Energy of love at work in our lives. Indeed “Our bones are dried up.” Our soul winning bones are dried up, we need repentance and deliverance in order to avoid God’s judgement. Pentecost News is a good news of ‘Thy Kingdom Come,’ which culminates with these words: “I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you on your own soil.” God is calling us back from the exile of decline, from the exile of pride and unbelief in to His Redemptive love. The Theological symbolism in the poetic and prophetic narrative of the Valley of dry bones is multidimensional in relation to the three meanings of spirit (as in God’s spirit), wind and breath, the Redemptive Energy that makes ‘God’s promise of return from exile ring in the ears of the deportees.’

Beloved, ONLY with God’s spirit, anything is possible. Without it, our existence, preaching and leadership are just flesh and blood which profit nothing and can never inherit God’s Kingdom (Act 2:1-47). No one address the crowd in the energy of man or by reasoning of man. Ask Peter, Paul or Wesley. God is saying to the church, “Hope is not lost. Though in the valley of despair or death, God will not leave us for dead but will give us new life and restore our hope.” Our Spiritual skeleton can dance again beyond every power in the water and air of our culture that poisons marriages, homes, and declines churches. As people of Pentecost, let us allow the Spirit to use us like Wesley and others “to tell the world what’s wrong but we do this ever and only with hope in our voices.”

Let us pray, according to Ezekiel, for the Breath of God. The Breath of God comes into you and I and begins to live in us. You and I have four parts to ourselves. We are made with body and we have minds and we have emotions and we have a spirit living inside of us. Let us pray for the Spirit of God to come inside of us. The Spirit of God enters our minds affects the way we think about our life. The Spirit of God enters our emotions and affects the way we feel about ourselves and others. The Spirit of God enters our physical body and affects our actions and what we do for others and ourselves.

I don't preach much anymore—I mostly teach—but I like the preaching anointing. I love it. It's different from the anointing to teach. It feels different. It's more exuberant. It's the same Spirit, but a different anointing. Thank God for the anointing to preach! If I had any control over it, I'd bring on that anointing to preach often, because I like it.

Before she accepted to be your girl friend, You were always calling her as early as 04:00 AM in the morning to wish her good morning. Called her at 7:00 AM to know if she has had breakfast. Called her after breakfast to know her plans for the day. Called her at exactly 12 o'clock
noon to wish her good afternoon. Called her by 2:00 PM to ask her to have lunch with you. Exactly 4:00 PM, you called her to wish her good evening. You called her at 6:00 PM to know what she will be having for dinner. Around 8:00 PM, you called to know what time she will have her night bath and go to bed. It's 10:00 PM exactly, you called again to hear her voice, one last time before you sleep. Around 12:30 AM, you called to know if she was sleeping alone and could keep you company through out the night. Around 4:00 AM, you wished her good morning. It's almost 4:30 AM, you asked her to go to bed so she can wake up earlier than the devil. Text messages as well as chats on social networking sites
were not left out. You always told her how much you love and cherish her,
that you are ready to do whatsoever it takes to make her your girl friend, your wife and the mother of your unborn kids. You went ahead to show her to your friends and some family members as your girl friend, pending her acceptance. She started feeling so close to you, your friends started calling her "OUR WIFE". You sent your friends and some of her friends to talk to her to accept dating you. After some time, she accepted to date you, you felt you have done what Napoleon or James Bond could never do. You guys go out, see each other, cuddle, kiss but do not have s*x cause she told you she is not ready for that yet. You told her that she doesn't trust you enough, or even love you. She felt bad about the way you were talking because she has started getting used to you and would do anything never to hurt you. She now gave in, allowed you explore her body, you took her pride, her dignity, or
maybe you weren't the first to do THAT with her, but utmostly she gave you her body. The relationship went on well, then slowly it began to fade. You stopped sending her messages, on social
network platforms to chat with her became a problem but you are always online. She was now the one calling to know your plans for the day because she wanted to be part of it, you were always telling her how hectic, stressful and busy your day were. You can go for a week without talking to her on phone or wanting to see her, You only see her when you want her to do something for you. You
started talking to other girls, the little time you spend with her, it's either you are online and chatting with someone or on phone. When she complains that you are
not giving her time and attention, you say she is too demanding. She spends her valentine& #180;s day, Easter, Christmas, New year, Birthdays alone. She does not complain, demand for expensive things or nag. All your promises, you broke them, you only wanted to have your own share of the cake-her body, You toiled
with her feelings and emotions, you cheat on her, lie to her, treat her with disrespect, ignore her amongst other things. When was the last time you asked her about her
problems? When was the last time you took her to somewhere quiet? When was the last time you surprised her with that little thing that makes her happy? You spend your time, money and love outside, leaving her in a darken room. You lied, deceived and lured her into
dating you, sleeping with you, You made her falling in love with you. Ask yourself these questions:
-> Will I make heaven with this behavior of mine?
-> Will God ever forgive me for breaking her heart, deceiving her, making her believe in me, betraying her trust and love?
-> Will you have another man do the same to your
daughter, sister or female bestie?
You have dated her for a year, 2years, or even 5years without plans for her, will you make heaven at last? You are cheating on your wife, girl friend, fiancee, busy texting and chatting with other females, forgetting your
promises to this girl that has given you everything, her body, soul, love, support, loyalty, humility, respect & everything that she has gotten. She gets into fights with her parents cause of you. She sneak out of the house to be with you, go against her values and beliefs just to be with you and make you happy. She jilted other guys, declined other proposals but yet you choose to pay her back in this way! My dear, you have a mansion waiting for you in Hell if you do not change your ways!! If you are married, go back to your wife, bring back that first love and if it's a girlfriend or fiancee you have, bring back the good old days. Do those things that brought you guys together again, and you will be surprise to see the goddess in HER.

Ten Lessons from the hen:
1. She first lays enough eggs before sitting on them: Good planning and Knowledgeable.
2. When she starts sitting on her eggs,she minimizes movements, Disciplined.
3. She physically loses weight while sitting on her eggs due to decreased feeding: Sacrificial and self denial.
4. She can sit on eggs from another hen: Indiscriminate and generous.
5. She sits on her eggs for 21 days patiently waiting and even if they don't hatch she will still lay eggs again: Faith,hope and Undiscouraged.
6. She detects unfertilized eggs and rolls them out: Sensitive and discernful
7. She abandons the rotten eggs and starts caring for the hatched chicks even if it is only one: Wise,season conscious and Realistic.
8. No one can touch her chick: protective Love.
9. She gathers all her Chicks together: Unity of purpose.
10. She can't abandon her chicks before they mature: Mentor ship.

SO TOUCHING
There was a farmer who had a horse and a goat. One day, the horse became ill. So he called the veterinarian, who said, "Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days. I'll come back on the third day and if he's not better, we will have to kill her." Standing nearby, the goat listened closely to their conversation. The next day, they gave the horse the medicine and left. The goat approached the horse and said, “Be strong my friend. Get up or else they're going to kill you!” On the second day, they again
gave the horse the medicine and left. The goat came back and said,"Come on buddy, get up or else you're going to die! Come on, I'll
help you get up. Let's go! One, two, three..." On the third day, they came to give the horse the medicine and the vet said, "Unfortunately, we're going to kill her tomorrow.
