WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE ELEVATION OF THE SACRED SPECIES AT MASS 🤔✝️
_____________________
The silence deepens.
The priest bends low over the altar, whispering the words that shook creation:
“This is My Body… This is My Blood.”
Then, he lifts them high.
First the Host, then the Chalice.
He raises Heaven itself.
And in that moment, time stands still.
✝️ WHEN EARTH LOOKS UP AND HEAVEN LOOKS DOWN
Every eye in the church is fixed on the white Host.
But unseen eyes are fixed on it too,
the eyes of angels,
adoring the very Face of God hidden under the veil of bread and wine.
At the Elevation, the Church is caught between two gazes:
man looking up in worship,
and God looking down in mercy.
This is where Heaven and Earth meet.
✝️ “AND I, WHEN I AM LIFTED UP…”
Jesus once said:
“And I, when I am lifted up from the earth,
will draw all people to Myself.” — John 12:32
That promise is fulfilled at every Mass.
When the priest lifts the Sacred Host,
it is not a memory, it is Calvary renewed.
The Cross is lifted again, not in pain, but in glory.
The same Jesus who hung between Heaven and Earth
is lifted before our eyes, inviting every heart to be drawn to Him.
✝️THE MOMENT THAT HOLDS THE UNIVERSE
At that height of the Host,
all creation pauses.
The angels adore.
The saints intercede.
The souls in purgatory hope.
And we, the living, are called to adore in silence.
This is not a symbol.
It is the same Body that was laid in the manger,
the same Blood that dripped from the Cross.
The same Jesus who now reigns in glory.
✝️THE CHALICE OF SALVATION
When the priest raises the chalice,
it is the Blood of the New Covenant lifted for the world to see.
Once, it was lifted on the Cross;
now, it is lifted on the altar.
Once, it poured upon the ground;
now, it flows into our souls.
As the host and chalice are raised,
the priest’s hands become the hands of Christ,
the altar becomes Calvary,
and the sanctuary becomes Heaven’s throne room.
✝️WHY WE GAZE AND ADORE
In this brief, sacred moment,
there are no words, only adoration.
That’s why many quietly whisper:
“My Lord and my God.” (John 20:28)
It’s the confession of Thomas,
and the faith of the Church repeated at every Mass.
The Elevation is not a gesture to be watched,
but a glory to be adored.
✝️THE HEART OF THE MASS
Here, Jesus offers Himself again,
not to die, but to be given.
He hides Himself in humility,
so that faith may adore what sight cannot grasp.
He lets Himself be lifted,
so that every broken heart may be lifted too.
He is raised above the altar,
so that we might remember: the Cross was not defeat, it was enthronement.
✝️SO:
Next time you see the priest lift the Host and Chalice,
lift your heart with them.
Look, not with the eyes of the body, but with the eyes of faith.
Because in that moment,
you are seeing what prophets longed to see,
the Lamb of God raised for the life of the world.
The same Jesus adored by angels,
loved by Mary,
and sacrificed for you.
Bow in silence.
Worship deeply.
Because that raised Host holds your eternity.
