food for thought
Detty December or Divine December?
Have you noticed that one way people often identify an ajebóta or an ajẹpákó is by how they look? This is largely a result of the kind of food they consume. What you eat has a direct effect on your skin.
That is why most skincare specialists advise that if you truly want glowing skin, you should not focus only on external products but pay more attention to what you put into your body, because the most effective work happens from the inside out.
I find this to be true of our spirituality as well.
We are in that season where rice and stew are in abundance, and it almost feels like a competition to see who can eat the largest portion. There is little or no restriction. It is eat as much as your stomach can carry.
Sadly, we have reduced the Christmas season to oblee season and Detty December for many. Our attention is now fixed on how many turkeys we can slaughter, while men are being slaughtered daily by sin and the devil. The average Christian now thinks Christmas is about a new wig, new outfits, photoshoots, and shoes, forgetting the true essence of the season: that a Saviour was born for mankind, to save His people from their sins.
As humbly as becoming a man, God dwelt among His creation. He did not choose to come in a mansion; He was revealed to the least of men. And yet, we think the best way to celebrate His birth is through a false display of appearance; new shoes, new clothes, rice, and chicken?
Yes, the birth of our Saviour is truly worth celebrating. It is God’s greatest gift to mankind. No one is saying you should wear sackcloth or fast throughout the season but are you sure you are making it about Him and not about yourself?
So this Christmas, make it count. Make it not about you, but about Him. In the way you celebrate, let Jesus be seen.
Feed on His knowledge and share that knowledge, and see how you will truly glow. More than sharing rice and chin-chin with your neighbours, share the knowledge of Christ, because no display of love is greater than that.
It’s another Christmas. Make it special.
It’s about Jesus.
It’s about salvation.
It’s about love.
Let your world know how much God loves them. Feed more on God’s love this season through His Word.
How are you celebrating your Christmas?
