THEME/TOPIC: THE POWER OF A PRAYING MOTHER
BIBLE TEXT: 2 KINGS 4: 18-37, 1 SAMUEL 1: 9-20
TEACHER: PST. (MRS) E. O. ONOJAKE
INTRODUCTION
Prayer can not be overemphasized in the body of Christ. It is like oxygen; no believer can do without it. We have sung severally that prayer is the master key. It is indeed the master key that unlocks endless possibilities to a believer. When this weapon is wielded by a mother who is patient, persistent, passionate, and purposeful, power is made available to cause change and a shift.
The topic of the power of a praying mother suggests that a motherโs prayer has the ability to bring about change. (The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous makes tremendous power available. James 5: 16 amp) When a mother prays, she can shape destinies and cause alignment.
Many great men and women in the Bible, in history, and even our present day are a product of mothersโ prayers. I pray that as we learn of the superpower we have in the place of prayer, we will deploy it to our advantage and that of our household in Jesus' name.
Outline:
1. What is prayer?
2. Who is a Praying Mother?
3. What are the characteristics of a praying mother?
4. What are the Proofs Produced by a Praying Mother?
What is Prayer?
To know the power in prayer, we must first know what prayer is. Prayer is communication and communion with God. It is pouring out our hearts to God (Ps 62: 8). Prayer is not all about asking for what you want; While that is part of it, it also includes thanksgiving Ps 35: 18, worshipping Him, seeking His mind concerning issues, seeking His will and being willing to wait for Him to speak on the matter and waiting on Him Ps 27: 14, Isaiha 40: 31. It is a two-way communication, not a monologue Hab 2: 1. It has the ability to change situations and circumstances. James 5 17
Who is a Praying Mother?
โ She is a female. Gen 5: 2 child of God. Jhn 1:12
โ She recognizes her need for God, and she is therefore God dependent. 1 Sam 1: 9-10, Prov. 3: 5-6, Jhn 15: 5
โ She has faith in God, and therefore, She seeks God. Heb 11: 6. She seeks His Kingdom Math 6: 33, 1 Sam 1: 10-12
What Are the Characteristics of a Praying Mother?
โ She has faith in God and does not allow worry to dominate her heart. Heb 11: 6. You can not have faith in God and still worry. Faith and worry are opposites. Why worry when you can pray? If you worry, you will not be able to pray. If you pray and after your prayer, you start to worry, you have already uprooted the seeds of prayer that you have sown and do not expect any result except God just chooses to have mercy. Math 6: 27. Instead of worrying about that situation, why not pray about it? Worrying only shows you do not trust God enough to handle the situation. Pray instead of worry. Philp 4: 6-7
โ She is persistent and does not take โNoโ for an answer. We have Hannah and the Shunnamite woman as good examples of persistence. Even when Hannahโs husband, Elkanah told her โam I not worth more than 10 sonsโ 1 Sam 1: 8, that did not make her stop going to Shiloh. Contrast these two women to Rachel in Gen 30: 1.
โ She is careful with her Words: she knows that her words carry power, so she uses them carefully. 2Kgs 4: 22-23; 26 She is slow to speak but quick to listen. James 1 19
โ She hides Godโs words in her heart: As women, we must let the word of God dwell in us richly Col 3: 16a, cause out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks Mth 12: 34, Luke 6: 45a. What you say in trying times is a product of what you have stored in your heart. Take time to store Godโs word in your heart through daily bible reading and meditation.
What are the Proofs Produced by a Praying Mother?
It is good to pray, but more importantly, that our prayers produce results, James 5: 16, evidence that are visible to everyone, even to the blind. Prayer that produces result is sacrificial. You pray when it is convenient and when it is not, when you feel like and when you do not.
โ Miracles: The son of the shunnamite woman was raised back to life.
โ Healings: James 5: 15
โ Godly offspring: Samuel was a product of intense prayer, and he was dedicated to God even before he was born. He was devoted and obedient to God throughout his lifetime.
โ Deliverance: Esther 4. The Jews were delivered from being exterminated by Haman
Conclusion
The Bible encourages mothers (everyone of us) to pray without ceasing, 1Thes 5: 17. Prayer doesnโt change God, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. it changes you so that you are able to receive all those things that have been freely given to you in Christ Jesus I Cor 2: 12, 1 Tim 6: 17. As mothers, we must remain persistent in the place of prayer. Pray with faith, trusting that He answers prayer. Be fervent, trusting, and believing all His words to you. Prayer is one of the greatest gifts a mother can give her children and even her husband. Mother, pray!
