Discover the Power of Standing in the Gap for Others
Dear New Believer,
Welcome to the incredible journey of faith in Christ! As you grow in your walk with God, there’s a beautiful way you can make a difference in the lives of others: through *intercession*, or what we call “standing in the gap.” Don’t worry if this sounds new or unfamiliar—I’m here to explain it simply and share why it’s such a powerful part of your faith.
What Is Intercession?
Intercession is praying on behalf of someone else, lifting their needs, struggles, or dreams to God. It’s like being a bridge between them and God, asking Him to move in their lives. Imagine a friend who’s hurting or a family member facing a tough situation—intercession means you bring their needs to God, trusting Him to work in His perfect way.
The Bible shows us this in action: Moses prayed for the Israelites (Exodus 32:11-14), and Jesus Himself prays for us (Hebrews 7:25). When you intercede, you’re joining Jesus in His work of love and care for others.
Why Should You Become an Intercessor?
You might be thinking, “I’m new to this—can I really do this?” Absolutely, yes! Here’s why intercession is a calling every believer can embrace:
- *It’s a Way to Love Others*: Praying for someone shows you care about their struggles, even when you can’t fix things yourself. It’s a powerful act of love.
- *It Changes Lives*: Your prayers invite God’s power into situations—whether it’s healing, guidance, or peace. I’ve seen families restored and hearts softened through faithful prayer.
- *It Deepens Your Faith*: As you pray and see God answer (sometimes in surprising ways!), you’ll grow closer to Him and trust Him more.
- *Anyone Can Do It*: You don’t need to be a “prayer expert” or know fancy words. God hears your heart, even in simple prayers.
How to Start Interceding
Here’s a simple way to begin, even as a new believer:
1. *Listen*: Pay attention to the needs around you—maybe a friend shares a worry, or you hear about a community issue.
2. *Pray Simply*: Talk to God like a friend. Say, “Lord, please comfort Sarah in her grief” or “Give Mike strength for his job interview.”
3. *Use Scripture*: Pray God’s promises, like “Lord, you promise peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7). Please give it to my family.”
4. *Be Consistent*: Try setting aside a few minutes daily to pray for others. Write down names or needs to stay focused.
5. *Trust God*: Even if you don’t see answers right away, trust that God is working. Your prayers matter!
A Story to Inspire You
I once knew a new believer named Anna who felt shy about praying. She started praying for her coworker, who was struggling with anxiety. Anna simply asked God each day to give her coworker peace. Weeks later, her coworker shared how she felt an unexplainable calm and even asked Anna about her faith! Your prayers can open doors for God’s love to shine.
Take the First Step Today
You have a unique role in God’s plan, and intercession is a way to partner with Him. Start small: pick one person or situation to pray for this week. Maybe it’s a neighbor, a global issue, or even your church. As you pray, you’re standing in the gap, holding them up before God’s throne of grace.
Will you take this step to become an intercessor? Try praying for someone today, and see how God uses your prayers to bring hope and change. If you’d like, reply to this message or join our prayer group to learn more—we’d love to support you in this journey!

P.S. Want a simple prayer to start? Try this: “Lord, I lift up [insert name of the person you want to pray for] to You. Please meet their needs and show them Your love. Amen.” You’ve got this!
