TODAY: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2026
TOPIC: WOMEN IN MINSTRY
BIBLE PASSAGE: ROMANS 16:1-15

Key Verse: "I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church in Cenchrea" - Rom. 16:1.

Our meditation today focuses on women in ministry. There have long been debates about the role of women in ministry. Some Christian denominations oppose it, while others support it. From our Bible passage, we see several christian women who served faithfully in various ways.

The word ministry simply means service. In our key verse, Paul commended Sister Phoebe, a deaconess in the church at Cenchrea. If she were not a vessel of honour, Paul wouldn’t have commended her. He urged the Roman Church to receive her in a way worthy of the saints; and assist her, for she had helped many people including Paul himself (v. 2).
Paul also mentioned Priscilla and her husband, Aquila - his fellow workers in Christ - who risked their lives for the Gospel (Acts 18:1-2). They even hosted a Church in their home (Romans 16:3-5).

Other women Paul acknowledged include Mary (v. 6), Junias (v. 7), Tryphena and Tryphosa, and Persis (v. 12), the mother of Rufus (v.v13), Julia and the sister of Nereus. These women laboured diligently in ministry, and Paul encouraged others to honour them.

How do we view women in ministry today? In our various denominations, do we support them or push them aside because they are women? Scripture says that as many as are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God (Rom. 8:14), and in Christ there’s neither Jew nor Gentile, male or female (Galatians 3:28).
Even at the time of Jesus’ ministry, women were not left out (Luke 8:2;27:56), and they were present in the upper room (Acts 1:14).

In the Presbyterian Church, whether in Nigeria or abroad, women have made great impacts. Mary Slessor, Elder Grace Uwem (the first female PCN Elder), and Rev. M. G. Okore (the first female PCN Minister), among others have made great impact. Paul would have commended them. Elisha would have mentioned the Shunammite woman too. Women are still labouring in ministry today. Let us stop marginalizing them. Let us give them room to serve as God has called them - whether as Elders, Ministers, or in any given leadership position.

ACTION:
Show appreciation especially to any woman serving in ministry.

PRAYER:
Thank You, Lord for the women labouring in Your vineyard. Please, strengthen and uphold them with more grace.

READ THIS TWICE

One of the signs of insecurity is the inability to celebrate a success you were not part of

Some people will say, “It wasn't even a big deal,” simply because they were not invited

They will minimize the achievement, criticize the process, or find faults in the celebration—not because the success was insignificant, but because they were not included

But maturity teaches you something different:

You can celebrate what you did not create.
You can applaud what you did not organize.
You can appreciate what you were not invited to.
You can be happy for people whose success has nothing to do with you

Not every door needs to open for you.
Not every table needs your seat.
Not every achievement needs your name attached to it

Learn to say, “Congratulations! I’m genuinely happy for you.”

Because another person’s success does not reduce your own chances of succeeding

Stop speaking down on people simply because they succeeded without you

Your inability to celebrate others may reveal more about your heart than it does about their achievement

Celebrate people. Support people. Clap for people. Your own testimony will come. 🙏✨

TODAY WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2026
TOPIC: JESUS CARES FOR YOU AND ME
BIBLE PASSAGE: MATTHEW 15:29-39

Key Verse: "Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 'I have compassion for these people, they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way'” - Matthew 15:32.

Revised Church Hymnary (RCH) 417 stanza 3 says,
”Can a woman’s tender care
Cease towards the child she bear?
Yes, she may forgetful be,
Yet will I remember thee.”
This reflects the true nature of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In today’s passage, we see how Jesus spent time with people. At a lonely mountain, a large crowd came out to meet Him with various needs: the lame, the crippled, the dumb, the blind and many others were attended to accordingly.
Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said the words of our key text.

How many of today’s pastors or leaders can think towards that direction? Jesus was compassionate, so caring that He was the one that brought up the idea of feeding the crowd.

Jesus cares for you and me. That’s why scriptures urge us to “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Even in times of uncertainty, God says, “For I know the plans I have for you... plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). God’s concern for our welfare was clearly shown in Exodus 3:7-8: “The Lord said, ‘I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians…”

The message "Jesus cares for you" is a declaration of God's love and concern, rooted in the belief that Jesus died for humanity's sins and understands human weakness. It encourages people to give their worries to Jesus, relying on His divine love and provision rather than their own strength. This care is understood as being present in all circumstances, even difficult ones, and is shown through His compassion and desire to help people through their struggles.

Whatever may be your condition or challenge at this time, you are being reminded that Jesus is concerned about you. Just go to Him, call upon Him, and He will answer you. Do not suffer in silence, Jesus cares for you.

ACTION:
Take your burden to Jesus, He cares for you.

PRAYER:
Thank You, Jesus, for caring for me. Help me to trust You always.
