FROM SINAI TO THE REVELATION — WHEN GOD CALLS, HE REVEALS
Last Sunday, we journeyed from Mount Sinai to the island of Patmos, and discovered one powerful truth: God calls His people into His presence so that they may encounter His glory, hear His voice, and understand His purpose.
In Exodus 19:1–11, Israel arrived at Sinai, where God called them to consecrate themselves and prepare for His descent upon the mountain. They were not merely approaching a mountain; they were approaching the manifest presence of the Holy God.
Centuries later, in Revelation 1:1–11, John found himself “in the Spirit” on Patmos, and there the risen Christ revealed Himself to him. John was not simply given information; he was given a revelation that would become a message to the Church.
The connection is profound:
At Sinai, God prepared a people for His presence.
On Patmos, God prepared a servant for His revelation.
At Sinai, the people were told to consecrate themselves.
On Patmos, John was in the Spirit.
At Sinai, God descended upon the mountain.
On Patmos, Christ revealed His glory to John.
At Sinai, God spoke and established His covenant people.
In Revelation, Christ spoke and addressed His Church.
Both passages remind us that divine revelation demands spiritual preparation. God desires more than our attendance; He desires our consecration. He is not merely calling us to stand around holy things — He is calling us to encounter Him, hear Him, and become vessels through which His message can reach others.
The question is not only, “Have we come to church?”
The deeper question is, “Have we come prepared to meet God?”
May the God who revealed Himself at Sinai reveal Himself afresh in our lives.
May He take us from mere observation into genuine encounter, from encounter into revelation, and from revelation into obedience.
May our hearts become Sinai — prepared for His presence.
May our spirits become Patmos — sensitive to His voice.
And may our lives become living testimonies of what happens when God reveals Himself to a surrendered heart.
Lord, call us deeper. Consecrate us completely. Open our eyes to Your revelation, and make us faithful carriers of what You show us. Amen.
