*TOPIC: THE PRIEST'S GARMENT*
“And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod,
and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto mein the priest's office.” Exodus 28:4.
*MESSAGE*
In Exodus 28, Moses received instructions on the garments for the priests of Israel. Priests in Israel held positions of great honour. God set them apart by requiring them to be holy. They were to keep themselves ceremonially clean, and they were not to copy what the nations around them were doing. Neither was a priest to make himself unclean by marrying a pr******te, a divorced woman, or a non-Israelite woman who did not worship God. Priests were to dress and groom themselves in such a way
that any time one saw a priest, he would be instantly recognised as a holy person and thus worthy of respect.
This speaks to, at least, two groups of people today. First, church elders and leaders. As the priesthood in Israel was a position of honour, our elders today should also see their
office as being honourable and make themselves good examples in our churches and in society. They should be deserving of respect. They, too, should dress and groom themselves in such a way that whenever one sees them, they would be easy to recognise and respect.
Besides, in the new covenant, every believer is a priest! When people meet us, it should be in places where we will be treated with respect, not in sinful places. We have been set apart by God to serve Him, so we are to be examples of holiness.
