OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SUNDAY JULY 20TH 2025

TOPIC: GOD HATES LONELINESS

MEMORISE:
“God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.” - (Psalm 68:6)

READ: ISAIAH 34:16-17 (KJV)

16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.

MESSAGE:
In Matthew 6:9, Jesus taught us to start our prayers with Our Father. God is a "family man'. He loves the concept of family and hates loneliness. In Genesis 2:18, He said that it is not good that a man should be alone. If you're of marriageable age and can't seem to find the right companion to get married to, or if there are forces preventing you from getting married, I pray that the tide will turn this year, in Jesus' name.

During one of our programmes several years ago, God's word came that the mother of one of the sisters in the congregation was diabolically preventing her from getting married. God said that the mother would be buried within seven days if she continued to prevent her daughter from getting married. The following day, a lady came with her mother to my office. The mother was furious, and she said, "You stupid prophets brainwash our girls. Imagine telling my daughter that I am responsible for her not getting married." I replied, "Me? Sister, did I say that? What God said is that the mother of a sister in the congregation was preventing her from getting married. Did I mention your name?" Then I turned to the mother, "Mama, don't mind her. Nobody mentioned her name." The mother then asked her daughter to leave my office because she wanted to speak with me alone. As her daughter went out, she turned to me, "Pastor, is it true that the mother of the fellow concerned will die?" I said, "I'm not talking about you, but what God said will come to pass. Before the week ends, whoever it is will be buried." The woman began to stammer, "I'm not asking her not to marry, but who is going to take care of me after she's married?" I said, "That's simple; I can make her and her husband promise to take good care of you." The lady, who was almost 40 years old and had not had any suitors, got married within six months.

In today's Bible reading, God promised that nobody will lack their mate. If you are feeling lonely, I pray that God will restore the broken relationships in your life or send the right companions your way. For someone reading this today, God will deal with anybody who says that you will not get married. He will settle you maritally in due time, in Jesus' name. God's word will never fail; keep trusting in Him.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please always send the right companions to me, in Jesus’ name.

HYMNAL: 6 - I AM SO GLAD THAT OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN

1 I am so glad that our Father in heav’n
Tells of His love in the Book He has giv’n;
Wonderful things in the Bible I see:
This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.

I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me;
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves even me.

2 Though I forget Him and wander away,
Still He doth love me whenever I stray;
Back to His dear loving arms would I flee,
When I remember that Jesus loves me.

3 Oh, if there’s only one song I can sing,
When in His beauty I see the great King,
This shall my song in eternity be:
“Oh, what a wonder that Jesus loves me.”

MEMORY VERSE: "Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.". – 1 John 2:22 (NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: 2 THESSALONIANS 2:3-4

3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,

4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

INTRODUCTION
Antichrist implies opposition to Christ. The Bible does not say anything specific about where the Antichrist will come from. Many Bible scholars speculate that he will come from a confederacy of ten nations and/or a reborn Roman empire (Daniel 7:24-25; Revelation 17:7). Others see him as having to be a Jew to claim to be the Messiah. All of these are just speculations since the Bible does not specifically say where the Antichrist will come from or what ethnicity he will be. However, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 tells us how we will recognise the Antichrist. His appearance is one of the eschatological events.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. HIS OTHER NAMES
2. HIS MISSION AND END

HIS OTHER NAMES

There are many speculations about who the Antichrist is/would be: some people think he is currently one of the popular world leaders, and some even believe he is/would be one of the world's richest men. The Bible has names for him as stated: The little horn (Daniel 7:8); Man of Sin and son of perdition (2 Thessalonians 2:3); The Beast (Revelation 13:2-8); The king who sets up the abomination of desolation (Mark 13:14; Daniel 9:27); The man of lawlessness (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12); The rider on a white horse - representing his claim to be a man of peace (Revelation 6:2): Vile Person (Daniel 11:21); The Wicked (2 Thessalonians 2:8).

HIS MISSION AND END

The antichrist will be empowered to rule the world (Daniel 7:25-26). He will work great miracles to deceive people (Revelation 13:11-13). He will position his images in strategic and holy places and force people to worship them (2 Thessalonians 2:4; Matthew 24:15). He will speak great things and blasphemies (Revelation 13:5). He will make war with the saints (Revelation 13:7), He will speak and prophesy lies to confuse people (Daniel 11:21). He will persecute the remnant that will be faithful to God (Revelation 12:17). He will take control of both the political and economic powers of the world (Revelation 13:16-17). He will give an identification number to those who will accept him. The number is '666'- this number will allow people to buy and sell. Those who reject the number wil be killed. At His second coming, Christ will bind the antichrist and cast him alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone (Revelation 19:20). Those that accept the mark of the beast (the antichrist) will be"...slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse.." and their co**se fed to the birds (Revelation 19:21). The Ancient of Days will take away the kingdom from the antichrist and establish His Holy Kingdom forever (Daniel 7:26-27).

CONCLUSION
Believers must be watchful to avoid missing the rapture and fall prey to the Antichrist.

QUESTION
1. Mention five names/titles of the Antichrist.
2. Describe in one sentence the end of the Antichrist.

TOPIC: THE HUSBANDMAN

MEMORISE:
“And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?” - (Luke 12:42)

READ: MATTHEW 24:45-47 (KJV)

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

MESSAGE:

A husbandman is someone who tills the ground and takes care of crops. In church, the husbandmen are the workers who ensure that everything goes well in Christ’s vineyard. When worship rises to God from His vineyard, He pours down blessings, and the first partakers are usually the husbandmen (2 Timothy 2:6).

When I joined The Redeemed Christian Church of God, the workers in the church were called Children of God. This is because it is children who ensure that everything goes well in their father's house; only visitors come and go without care. Hence, no good father will see his children hungry and prefer to feed strangers; children are usually the first partakers of a household's blessings. When a Canaanite woman came to Jesus, pleading with Him to heal her demon-possessed daughter, He told her that it was not fair to give what belongs to the children to dogs (Matthew 15:26). Some privileges belong to children alone, and similarly, only God's children who worship and serve Him wholeheartedly have access to special privileges from Him.

In (2 Timothy 2:6), the Bible says that the husbandman who labours should be the first partaker of the fruits. This implies that there are some husbandmen who do not labour. God expects certain things from husbandmen. First of all, He expects them to be diligent as they tend to the responsibilities that He has given them in His vineyard. These can be within a department in the church - it can be arranging the chairs, washing the toilets, taking care of children, or serving as ushers. If you are a husbandman, whatever your duty is, do it diligently. When you labour diligently, you will be a first partaker of the fruits of God's blessings.

God also expects faithfulness from husbandmen (1 Corinthians 4:2). When God gives you a task, He wants you to do it faithfully. Being faithful is proving yourself worthy of trust. It also involves managing resources efficiently. When you are faithful, God can trust you with people, ideas, and resources; He can trust you to do His will. When you are faithful in the little God gives you, He will trust you with more (Luke 16:10-11).

Beloved, ensure that you labour diligently and faithfully as a husbandman in God's vineyard so you can be a first partaker of His blessings. If you are not yet a worker in your local assembly, now is the time to take up some responsibilities in your church.

KEY POINT:
To be a first partaker of God's blessings, you must serve Him diligently and faithfully as a husbandman in His vineyard.

HYMNAL: 4 - TO THE WORK! TO THE WORK! WE ARE SERVANTS OF GOD

1 To the work! to the work! we are servants of God,
Let us follow the path that our Master has trod;
With the balm of His counsel our strength to renew,
Let us do with our might what our hands find to do.
Refrain:
Toiling on, toiling on,
Toiling on, toiling on:
Let us hope, let us watch,
And labor till the Master comes.

2 To the work! to the work! let the hungry be fed;
To the fountain of life let the weary be led;
In the cross and its banner our glory shall be,
While we herald the tidings, "Salvation is free!" [Refrain]

3 To the work! to the work! there is labor for all;
For the kingdom of darkness and error shall fall;
And the name of Jehovah exalted shall be,
In the loud-swelling chorus, "Salvation is free!" [Refrain]

4 To the work! to the work! in the strength of the Lord,
And a robe and a crown shall our labor reward;
When the home of the faithful our dwelling shall be,
And we shout with the ransomed, "Salvation is free!" [Refrain]

BIBLE PASSAGE: EXODUS 18:17-24

[17]So Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.
[18]Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.
[19]Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and God will be with you: Stand before God for the people, so that you may bring the difficulties to God.
[20]And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do.
[21]Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
[22]And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you.
[23]If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all this people will also go to their place in peace.”
[24]So Moses heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said.

INTRODUCTION
To be intentional means to be purposeful. It is a deliberate action, making decisions and acting on what is important to achieve a specific outcome. A leader is an individual with a sense of direction, willing to take responsibility in guiding others into achieving a common aim. Intentional leadership is therefore a purposeful way of leading people into becoming who and what they have been divinely designed to become. Intentional leaders are those who are clear about their goals and purposes.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. THE PORTRAIT OF AN INTENTIONAL LEADER
2. THE EXAMPLE OF NEHEMIAH

THE PORTRAIT OF AN INTENTIONAL LEADER

Intentional leaders are deliberate in their actions (1 Samuel 17:32), ensuring their everyday actions align with a strong, well-articulated vision (Philippians 3:13). They are consistent in their beliefs and actions (Numbers 13:30). They get things done on time by meeting deadlines (1 Chronicles 12:32). They are flexible to connect godly practices with contemporary contexts. Intentional leaders make sure everyone on their team is going in the same direction and working toward the same objective.

THE EXAMPLE OF NEHEMIAH

Anyone can become an intentional leader like Nehemiah who rebuilt the city wall in 52 days through his leadership style. We will look at some things that Nehemiah did that can quide us in our leadership roles.

1. Take up the challenge. Just like Nehemiah intentional leaders must take up the responsibility to solve the problems staring them in the face. They must lead their team out of the issues at hand. Problem-solving skills are needed by every leader (Nehemiah 1:3-4a).

2. Take inventory. As a good leader, follow up with the task at hand and look at things realistically. Nehemiah did not make any public announcements until he had done his homework of inspecting the broken walls in Jerusalem and the work to be done (Nehemiah 2:11-13).

3. Be humble. Do not assume that you know or have all the answers. Come into every leadership situation with humility (James 4:10) and start by accurately assessing the problem. Learn to listen to those you are leading and pay attention to details. Good leaders need to activate their listening skills (2 Kings 6:1-3).

4. Build a formidable team. Put together a strong team and have a strategic plan to delegate (Nehemiah 2:17-18; Exodus 18:17-24). In Nehemiah 3, we have a good model of teamwork and accomplishing much in a short time. Leadership and teamwork have a direct impact on our ability to accomplish goals.

5. Pray for favour. Every leader needs favour to excel in their leadership journey. There is a need to pray to God for opportunities, open doors, breakthroughs, etc. Nehemiah prayed for favour with the king and for an opportunity to speak with him and God granted his desire (Nehemiah 1:11).

CONCLUSION
As an intentional leader, ensure you leave an indelible mark for generations to remember.

QUESTION
1. Mention at least three (3) characteristics of intentional leaders.
2. Mention five (5) things Nehemiah disd as an intentional leader.

INTRODUCTION
Memories are events or experiences that happened in the past. God designed us each with memory - the capacity and capability of the human brain to store and retrieve past events. The human memory is utilised continuously moment-by-moment to record what is going on in our lives even things done secretly. This lesson shall highlight some facts about human memory and how believers should manage their memories.

LESSON OUTLINES
1. FACTS ABOUT HUMAN MEMORY
2. MANAGING OUR MEMORIES

FACTS ABOUT HUMAN MEMORY

The human memory is involved in virtually almost what we do as humans:

1. It records what is ongoing in our lives, even mental images in our sleep (Genesis 41:1-8). Without it, we have no identity and purpose, and life will be meaningless.

2. It provides us with a source of the direction of what to do and how to do it through experience (1 Samuel 17:33-37).

3. The capacity of the human brain (memory) is believed to be approximately 2.5 million gigabytes 2,500 terabytes (2.5 petabytes). This storage device can store up to 300 years of continually recorded non-stop television video.

4. Unlike a hard disk drive, you cannot delete memory from your brain. If you stop thinking about certan memories and focus on others, they wil slowly recede into the background. Some memories may not recede but are inaccessible, they are not entirely gone and could potentially be retrieved (Daniel 4:33-34, 36).

5. Memories are spiritual and part of our soul instance, the martyrs could sill recall how they were treated on earth (Revelation 6:9-10)

6. The entire body will decay in death but the memory and soul will remain.

MANAGING OUR MEMORIES

Our memories can be pleasant or unpleasant which may be triggered by something we have seen or heard; or will just appear in our mind without a 'trigger'.

However, as believers:
1. We should know what to dwell on and what to let go of (Philippians 4:8).

2. We should treasure things that are inspiring in our hearts. Be it prophecies, revelation from the Scriptures, and so on. One of the ways of doing this is by taking notes (Luke 2:19).

3. We should recall what the Lord has done; how he drew us unto repentance and salvation, His faithfulness, kindness, and so on (Ephesians 2:11-13). This, in turn, provokes worship that glorifies God and brings strength, courage, hope, and faith when we struggle with afflictions and oppositions (Psalm 8:1-4; 1 Samuel 17:36-37).

4. We should recall others in our prayers, be they unsaved family members, co-workers, or friends in tough situations (2 Timothy 1:3-5; Hebrews 13:3).

5. The painful memories we recall should be handed over to Our Saviour who can pour out love and comfort. to restore our broken hearts (Psalm 116:3-5; Hebrews 4:15).

6. Everyone will one day be just a memory." We should live in such a way that we would leave the stage with a good memory of ourselves to encourage and inspire others after our death (Proverbs 10:7; Psalm 112:6)

CONCLUSION
Humans have the power to store a vast amount of experiences throughout their lives, but as believers, we should know which to recall or to let go, to the grace of God.

QUESTION
1. Mention four facts about human human memory
2. Identity four ways of managing our memories

READ: 2 KINGS 4:8-37 (KJV)

8 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.

9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.

10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.

11 And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.

12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.

13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.

14 And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.

15 And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.

16 And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.

17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.

18 And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.

19 And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.

20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.

21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.

22 And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.

23 And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.

24 Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.

25 So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:

26 Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.

27 And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.

28 Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?

29 Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.

30 And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.

31 And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.

32 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.

33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the LORD.

34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.

35 Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

36 And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.

37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.

MESSAGE:

In today's Bible reading, the Shunamite woman sowed into Elisha's life continuously until he was inspired to find out what he could give her in return. Eventually, she got a blessing that transformed her life. I learnt from this story that if you bless a genuine man of God, you have entered into a covenant partnership with God, and you won't have to pray about some of your needs before God meets them.

We have a group in RCCG called Covenant Partners. These are people who quietly lift up my hands financially. I meet with them once every year, and at one particular meeting, I was led by the Holy Spirit to say, "Those of you who have been lifting up my hands, if there is any of you in debt, God will pay your debt." One man among them shouted "Amen" loudly. He was about 50 years old and was heavily in debt. The following week, the bank that he owed called him to meet the Managing Director. The MD asked him, "Sir, how are you going to pay off this debt? Give us a plan so we know what to work with." He looked at the MD and said, "Even if I pay you a million naira for every day that I have lived, I can't finish paying this debt." To his surprise, the bank later informed him that the loan had been written off. I pray that my Father, who owns the cattle upon a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10), will do exceedingly abundantly above your wildest imaginations, in Jesus' name.

Abraham understood covenant partnership with God. After he went to war against the five kings who fought against S***m and Gomorrah and conquered them, he gave Melchizedek, the priest of the Most High God, the tithes of all (Genesis 14:18-20). This covenant partnership shifted Abraham into an unprecedented realm of abundance such that when he was old, the Bible said God had blessed him in all things (Genesis 24:1). Joshua's service to Moses positioned him as God's choice to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land (Exodus 33:11, Joshua 1:1-2). Also, Elisha's service to Elijah made him a candidate for a double portion of the anointing (2 Kings 2:1-15).

Beloved, God wants you to come into a covenant partnership with Him through the genuine spiritual leaders He has placed over you. Honour them by giving to them and supporting them, and like the great woman of Shunem, God will meet your needs even before you ask Him.

HYMNAL: 26 - THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING

1 There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

Refrain:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2 There shall be showers of blessing,
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain. [Refrain]

3 There shall be showers of blessing:
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come and now honor Thy Word. [Refrain]

4 There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we're confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call! [Refrain]
