Happy New Month and Happy First Day of August!
It's been an amazing year so far, and the year is just getting better. As the month of August unfolds, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has begun its annual Convention themed "THE OVERCOMERS."
However, today being the first Sunday of the month, Daddy G.O, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, gave a little glimpse of what will be happening at the convention as he preached on the sermon, "THE WINNING TEAM." He also used today to celebrate and encourage all sportsmen and coaches.
THE WINNING TEAM
The title of today's sermon was only an insight into the theme for the convention: "THE OVERCOMERS."
As one who wishes to be an overcomer, you must be on the winning side. He referred to us as sportsmen and said, "There are lessons to learn in sports that will see you through life."
He further explained the difference between a friend and your coach:
A friend would accept you for who you are, but a coach is never satisfied with you just doing your best — he will push you regardless.
TO BE A WINNER
To be a winner, he shared three key points we must consider:
YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO WIN (Proverbs 4:7)
Not only in sports but in life as well. Wisdom, he said, is important in becoming a winner (Ecclesiastes 9:16).
“Strength without wisdom is nothing.”
WORK EXTRA HARD (Proverbs 12:24)
If you want to be a winner, you have to do more than the ordinary. Working extra time and extra hard gives you an edge over others.
YOU NEED DIVINE INVOLVEMENT TO WIN (Ecclesiastes 9:11)
All games are under probability because we really don't know the outcome — only God, who shows mercy, does.
We ask God why He allows things to happen, but if you have wisdom, you will team up with Him — because if God calls you a winner, you are a winner; and if He calls you a loser, you are a loser.
He emphasized the importance of knowing and protecting our weak points, as they are vital areas the devil targets for attack. As he drew to a conclusion, he advised that we be in right standing with God, as that is the first key to becoming an overcomer.
