The scribes amongst the preachers... who are the scribes? They were the interpreters of the teachers of old Testament scriptures from the time of Nehemiah, as seen in Nehemiah 8:8 and Ezra 7:6. They interpreted the law as they pleased, often disregarding the spiritual benefits and significant values in the scriptures. Jesus rebuked them, as recorded in Matthew 23:1-7 and 23. Similarly, many preachers today fail to practice what they preach or teach, instead engaging in behaviors that contradict their messages. Most are unwilling to open themselves to scriptural verses that rebuke their poor character. Ultimately, one's lifestyle must reflect the teachings of Christ that they proclaim.
