THE ULTIMATE MANDATE
Acts 1:8; Judges 7:16–20
There is a dimension of Christianity that goes beyond being blessed; it is the dimension of becoming a blessing.
God has blessed us, equipped us, called us, and entrusted something of Himself to us. But there is a process we must submit to before what God has deposited in us can effectively reach others.
We must be broken.
In Judges 7, Gideon and his three hundred men were instructed to take pitchers, place the torches inside them, and break the pitchers at the appointed time. The light was already there, but it could not be seen until the pitcher was broken.
That is a powerful picture of the believer.
The light is in you, but sometimes the vessel must be broken for the light to shine.
Many of us desire to be greatly used by God, but we do not always desire the process that makes us usable. We want the manifestation without the breaking. We want the glory without the surrender. We want to carry the fire while still preserving everything in us that resists the dealings of God.
But God must deal with the flesh before the Spirit can have full expression.
Every believer is called, but not every believer is equally yielded. Every believer carries something, but what we carry may remain hidden until God deals with what is covering it.
You cannot effectively shine if you refuse to be broken.
Brokenness is not destruction. It is surrender.
It is when God begins to break our pride, our self-sufficiency, our stubbornness, our ambitions, our need for recognition, and our dependence on human strength. It is when we stop insisting on our own way and begin to say, “Lord, have Your way in me.”
Sometimes God allows us to be broken because He sees something in us that must come down before what He has placed inside us can come forth.
The pitcher had to be broken before the torch could be seen.
Flesh must go down for the Spirit to rise.
This is why some of the processes we call painful may actually be divine preparation. The breaking may feel uncomfortable, but God is not wasting the process. He is making room for His life, His light, and His purpose to find expression through us.
