“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.” – Matthew 1:1

You came from somewhere, and you are going somewhere. Your source is important, but your God-given destination is even more important. Matthew does not begin the story of Jesus with His earthly circumstances; it begins by showing that His life belongs to a much larger divine purpose. He is the Son of David and the Son of Abraham, the one through whom God's promises would find their fulfilment. This teaches us that identity is not merely about where you started; it is also about where God is taking you. Perhaps your beginning was difficult; you came from a family with limited opportunities; you have experienced failure, rejection, disappointment, or circumstances that seemed to place boundaries around your future. But do not confuse your starting point with your final destination. The major thing is whether your choices are cooperating with God's purpose for your life. You cannot change yesterday, but you can surrender today to God. You cannot rewrite your ancestry, but you can influence what you pass to the next generation. You cannot control every circumstance, but you can choose your response. You can choose to break destructive patterns and establish godly ones. God's grace does not erase your history; it redeems it and gives it new meaning. Your past may be part of your testimony, but it does not have to be the boundary of your future.

Today, pause and consider the three questions again: Where did I come from? – My source. Who am I becoming? – My story. What will I leave behind? – My legacy. Your source deserves understanding, your story requires intentionality, and your legacy demands responsibility. Do not live carelessly as though your decisions affect only you. Someone is watching, learning, and will be influenced by what you normalise, tolerate, pursue, and value. The generation coming behind you may inherit more than your possessions; they may inherit your convictions, habits, wounds, wisdom, faith, and example. Therefore, make today's choices with tomorrow's generation in mind. Let your story become evidence that God's grace can work through an ordinary human life and turn its chapters toward His purpose. Let those who come after you say, “Because they lived faithfully, we know what it means to walk with God.”

Your name may eventually disappear from human memory, but the impact of a life surrendered to God can continue through generations. You have a source, a story, and building a legacy. So live today in such a way that tomorrow's generation will have something godly to remember. You did not choose your first chapter, but by God's grace and the choices you make today, you are contributing to the chapters that will outlive you. May your source be understood, your story be meaningful, and your legacy be worthy of the God who gave you life. Remember this: what am I receiving from the generation before me, what am I writing into my story today, and what am I intentionally preparing to leave for the generation after me?

Prayer: Father, grant me grace to live purposefully in life and leave a good legacy in Jesus’ name.

The second question to address is: who am I becoming? – My story. If your source answers the question, “Where did I come from?”, then your story answers the question, “Who am I becoming?” Everyone is writing a story, whether consciously or unconsciously. Every decision, attitude, relationship, sacrifice, habit, word, and response becomes part of the narrative of your life. You are not simply living one day after another; you are building a story one choice at a time.

Jesus’ genealogy shows that God was working across generations, and the story was moving toward a divine destination. In the same way, your present decisions are contributing to the person you are becoming. What you repeatedly choose today can become the character you carry tomorrow. If you choose integrity, you are writing integrity into your story. If you choose forgiveness instead of bitterness, discipline instead of excuses, service instead of selfishness, faith instead of fear, and obedience instead of compromise, you are shaping the chapters that follow. This does not mean that every chapter will be perfect. People make mistakes, experience disappointments, and sometimes take wrong turns. But God's grace means that a difficult chapter does not have to become the conclusion of the book. There is room for repentance, restoration, growth, and a new beginning. You did not choose the first chapter of your story, but by God's grace and the choices you make today, you can influence the chapters that follow.

The third question to address is, what will I leave behind? – My legacy. This is perhaps the one we often avoid: “What will I leave behind?” Your legacy is not merely the property, money, title, position, or possessions you leave when you die. Your legacy is also the character you formed, the lives you influenced, the values you transmitted, the people you helped, the faith you demonstrated, and the example you established. This verse reminds us that generations are connected. Abraham lived before David; David lived before the generations that followed; and eventually the genealogy led to Christ. Each generation stood somewhere in a larger story. The same is true of us. We are receiving something from those who came before us, and we are handing something to those who will come after us. Therefore, we should ask, what will my children and family remember? What will those I served and generation remember about the way I lived? What kind of faith or values will remain when my name is no longer being spoken?

We are not merely living for today; we are creating a legacy for tomorrow. Your choices today may influence people you have never met and generations you will never see. A prayer you pray, a principle you uphold, a child you teach, a person you encourage, a ministry you build, or an act of integrity you demonstrate may continue producing fruit long after you are gone.

Prayer: Lord, help me to consciously live right and make good choices and decisions in life; may I not make mistakes that is beyond redemption, and look back with regret in Jesus’ name.

*When the Enemy Wears the Face of A Friend*

“Then Saul said, "Thus you shall say to David: 'The king does not desire any dowry but one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take vengeance on the king's enemies.'" But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.” – 1 Samuel 18:25 (NKJV).

There are moments in life when the greatest danger does not come from an obvious enemy, but from someone who smiles, speaks kindly, and appears to be a friend. Not everyone who walks with you is walking for you. Some people may stay close because of what they can gain, what they can discover, or how they can use your closeness to accomplish hidden intentions. This is why spiritual discernment is essential. In today’s text, Saul said to David, “The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take revenge on his enemies.” On the surface, Saul's request appeared to be a legitimate marriage arrangement. But his real intention was hidden: he wanted David to be placed in danger so that the Philistines might kill him. Saul was no longer acting like a friend or father figure; he was secretly using David's loyalty as a weapon against him.

This passage teaches us that closeness does not always mean loyalty. Saul was close to David, but his heart was against him. Sometimes, the person who appears to support you may secretly be working against your progress. The enemy may not always come with a sword in his hand; sometimes, he comes with a smile on his face, flattering words, and an offer that appears attractive. David, however, did not allow Saul's schemes to destroy God's purpose for his life. This reminds us that when people have wrong intentions toward us, God remains greater than their plans. We must therefore avoid bitterness, revenge, and suspicion toward everyone. Instead, we should walk in wisdom, prayer, and spiritual discernment, allowing God to expose what we cannot see.

In the end, Saul's plan did not succeed, as David slaughtered two hundred Philistines unhurt, as against a hundred requested by Saul and delivered their foreskins to him (vs. 27). Since God has determined to preserve David, what Saul intended to kill him added feathers to him. Do not be discouraged when someone you trusted disappoints you. A person's betrayal cannot cancel God's purpose for your life. Ask God for the wisdom to recognise genuine relationships and the grace to respond to hidden opposition without losing your character. Not everyone who stands beside you stands with you, but when God is with you, no hidden enemy can destroy His purpose for your life.

Prayer: Lord, give me the spirit of discernment to recognise those whose intentions are not for my good. Protect me from hidden traps and give me wisdom to respond with grace. Let every evil plan against my life fail, and preserve your purpose for me in Jesus' name.
