BPM LIVING BREAD
TOPIC: THE PLAGUE OF HURRY — THE HIGHWAY HORROR.
TEXT: “He that believeth shall not make haste.” (Isaiah 28:16)
Beloved, we live in an age gripped by a silent but deadly plague; the plague of hurry. It does not announce itself with fever or visible wounds, yet it eats away at our souls, our peace, our relationships, and even our walk with God.
Hurry is not just moving fast; it is a spirit. It is the restless urgency that says, “Now! Faster! Don’t wait!” It is the anxiety that robs us of stillness, the pressure that pushes us beyond wisdom, and the noise that drowns out the voice of God.
THE NATURE OF PLAGUE
Hurry convinces us that speed equals success. It whispers that delay is failure. But in doing so, it disconnects us from divine timing. God is never in a rush, yet He is always on time.
When hurry takes over:
Prayer becomes shallow
Decisions become impulsive
Relationships become strained
Purpose becomes blurred
You may gain the world’s pace, but lose heaven’s direction.
THE HIGHWAY HORROR
Think of life as a highway. Many are speeding—chasing money, status, validation, and fleeting achievements. But the faster they go without direction, the greater the danger.
Hurry turns life’s highway into a horror scene:
*Accidents of bad decisions
*Collisions of broken relationships
*Burnouts of exhausted souls
Some have rushed into marriages, careers, investments, and opportunities, and only to find themselves trapped in regret. Why? Because they moved faster than God’s guidance.
The enemy doesn’t always need to stop you; he just needs to rush you.
BIBLICAL WARNING
Scripture consistently teaches patience and waiting:
“Wait on the Lord…” (Psalm 27:14)
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
Even Jesus, with all power, was never hurried. He walked, He paused, He prayed. He was never late;only perfectly timed.
THE COST OF HURRY
Hurry costs more than time:
It steals joy
It kills discernment
It weakens faith
When you are always rushing, you stop listening. And when you stop listening, you miss God.
THE CURE FOR THE PLAGUE The antidote to hurry is not laziness,it is holy stillness.
Slow down intentionally . Not everything urgent is important
Seek God first – Direction before speed.
Embrace waiting seasons ; They are not wasted seasons
Trust divine timing ; God’s delays are not denials
A CALL TO REFLECTION
Ask yourself:
What am I rushing into that God has not approved?
What has hurry cost me already?
When last did I truly wait on God?
Conclusion
Beloved, the plague of hurry is real, and the highway horror claims many victims daily. But you don’t have to be one of them.
Step off the fast lane. Walk with God. Move at the pace of grace.
Because in the kingdom of God, it is not the fastest who wins,it is those who follow faithfully.
