*SORROW LEADS TO JOY*
*Text:* 2 Chronicles 34:15-22, 26-27
*Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the LORD. 2 Chronicles 34:27, NIV*
*BH 305:* Take the Name of Jesus with You
*RBT:* Jonah 1-4
A businessman lost a business deal worth five million naira to a rival company. He became sorrowful because he had invested so much in the deal. Shortly, he closed three different deals worth $10 million, which totally made up for his loss. He rejoiced as his sorrow was turned to joy.
Today's text records the reforms carried out during the reign of king Josiah. Pivotal to this reform were the purging of Judah and Jerusalem of idol worship and the repairing of the temple of God. In the course of the repair, the book of the law of God was found. Hearing the book's contents read to him; the king became sorrowful and regretful in fear of God's anger because their ancestors did not act according to what was written. He sent messengers to prophetess Huldah to enquire about God's mind concerning their situation. In verse 27, God assured the king of His mercy because he displayed humility before the Lord.
In our contemporary society, many people are disobedient to the Word of God, including some churches. Very few have genuine concern for the Word of God. The example of King Josiah should teach us lessons on the need to place value on the Word of God. The contemporary church is full of selective reading of the Bible. If you understand the mind of God for our society, you will strive to make God's Word known. Living in righteousness and obedience to God's Word will grant one eternal joy.
*Perceive:* The Word of God is not scarce among contemporary Christians, but obedience to it.
