Oyo Hajj chairman arrives Saudi Arabia ahead of 2024 preparation
MouthpieceNGR 6 January 2024.Expresses gratitude to Oyo students over warm reception

Ahead of the 2024 hajj preparation, the Chairman, Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare’s Board (Muslim Wing), Sheikh Hashim AbdulWahab Olamide Atere has arrived Saudi Arabia.

Sheikh Atere, who landed at Jeddah International Airport on Saturday, was warmly received by Oyo state students who are studying in Makkah.

While expressing his gratitude for the show of love displayed by the students, Sheikh Atere said that his prompt arrival to the Holy land was to ensure a seamless Hajj exercise for Oyo state intending pilgrims.

According to him, part of the preparation is to organize and coordinate the reception, accommodation, feeding and transportation, health and general welfare of pilgrims from Oyo state to the Holy land throughout the Hajj period.

Describing his advanced movement as the foundation on which the success of this year’s Hajj will be built, the Islamic scholar added that if it is very strong, then the rest of the structure will be solid.

The chairman however noted that the Oyo State Government recently announced an extension of the deadline for the payment of the 2024 Hajj to January 31st 2024 in an effort to guarantee that no intending pilgrim is left out of the upcoming spiritual Hajj exercise.

According to him, the extension would provide yet another excellent opportunity for individuals who were unable to finish their payment by the previously scheduled deadline of December 31 to make up for it, and for those who have not yet made any payments to do so by the end of this month.

Sheikh Hashim urged those who also intended to perform this year’s Hajj exercise but were unable to pay in full at this time to first demonstrate their commitment to the Board with the goal of completing the payment before the month ended.

He added that intending pilgrims could still make their payment in installments.

Atere said: “The Hajj payment may be made to any of the Board’s designated bank accounts, either directly and physically to the banks or through the bank apps after which you have to bring your tellers/ print-out receipts for government receipts.

“So, I am urging intending pilgrims to visit either the Board’s Olodo office or its annex, within the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) premises, Ile-Akede, Oríta-Bashorun Ibadan, for further inquiries.”

The Saudi trained Islamic Scholar affirmed that Hajj pilgrims from Oyo state would enjoy better services as Governor Seyi Makinde is giving the needed backing to ensure that the State Pilgrims Welfare’s Board delivered on its mandate.

*Don't betray People's Trust - Mogaji Adanla tells Tinubu, Makinde*

A popular community leader, Engineer Abdul-Jeleel Abdul -Kareem has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State not to betray the trust that the people have in them.

Engineer Abdul Kareem, who is the Mogaji of Adanla family in Ibadan, recalled that Nigerians had endured and defied harsh policies, like artificial fuel scarcity and cash withdrawal, implemented to sway them from voting Tinubu but still went ahead to elect him against all odds.

While similarly recalling how Governor Makinde was re elected with an unprecedented electoral landslide, Mogaji Adanla urged both President Tinubu and Governor Makinde to reciprocate the love of their electors by giving them the much desired good governance.

"I urge President Tinubu and Governor Makinde not to take the uncommon love people showered on them at the last elections for granted. Rather, they should continue to exhibit the good qualities which make people to love them", Engineer Abdul-Kareem said.

The Turaki of Oyo State, who is presently in Mecca where he is observing the Hajj exercise, admonished other pilgrims to see the pilgrimage as a spiritual exercise which teaches love, patience and perseverance.

"Hajj is not a jolly ride or mere excursion but an ibadah ordained by Allah to inculcate in us love, patience and endurance. We should imbibe the virtues of Hajj and use it to pray for our family, state and the nation", Mogaji Adanla said.

*Use Hajj for Spiritual Rebirth - Okere of Saki admonishes Oyo Pilgrims*

The Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi has advised pilgrims from Oyo State to see the Hajj exercise they are performing as spiritual rebirth.

Oba Olabisi, who is among the indigenes of the state partaking in this year's Muslim pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, was of the opinion that the exercise should transform the pilgrims into new beings, clad in Islamic morals.

In an interview with newsmen in his hotel suite in Mecca, the royal father enjoined Oyo pilgrims to imbibe the lessons of Hajj and put them to practice when they return to Nigeria.

"I want our people to realize that their pilgrimage to Mecca and Madinah has changed their personality and status. They have become new beings both socially and spiritually. As Alhaji or Alhaja, they are not expected to exhibit bad or immoral behaviours. Consequently, they have to refrain from immoral behaviours that could spoil their new image. They should see themselves as ambassadors of Islam", the Okere of Saki said.

The foremost traditional ruler from Oke Ogun, who is performing the holy pilgrimage with three other royal fathers - the Eleyinpo of Ipapo, Oba Yekeen Ademola Abioye, Gegun of Ayetoro - Ile, Oba Abdul Rosheed Omobolanle Olayiwola and Gegun of Ayetoro - Oke, Oba Nojimdeen Afolabi Adesola, urged the pilgrims to pray for the progress of Oyo State and Nigeria during the pilgrimage.
