PETER REFINING PROCESS

MEMORISE

But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren (Luke 22:32).

READ:
Luke 22:31-34; 54-62

Luke 22: 31-34

[31]. And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.

[32]. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

[33]. But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”

[34]. Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”

Luke 22: 54-62

[54]. Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance.

[55]. Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.

[56]. And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.”

[57]. But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”

[58]. And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”

[59]. Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”

[60]. But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.

[61]. And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

[62]. So Peter went out and wept bitterly.

EXPOSITION

Peter's life is a testament to both faith and failure. After boldly declaring his loyalty, he denied Jesus three times, as Jesus had foretold (Matt. 26:34). This failure was deeply painful for Peter, but it led to a process of repentance and restoration, unlike Judas who only had a moment of remorse but failed woefully to repent. After Jesus' resurrection, He appeared to Peter, asking him three times, _Do you love me?_ (Jn. 21:15-17). This act of restoration allowed Peter to reaffirm his commitment and be healed from his shame.

Through this refining process, Peter became a powerful leader in the early Church. On the day of Pentecost, he preached boldly and three thousand people surrendered to the lordship of Jesus and were saved (Acts 2:41). Peter's story teaches us that God can use even our failures to shape and refine us for His purpose. It is a process that makes us God's own products. Don't jump the process. God's grace enables us to rise above our mistakes and become instruments for His glory. Like Peter, we can experience God's restoration and transformation, turning our weaknesses into strengths for His Kingdom (2 Cor. 12:9).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me to truly turn back to You if/when I mess up. Heal me from shame, just like You did for Peter.

2. Father, as You shaped Peter for Your glory, shape me too. Give me courage to live out Your plan.

3. God, let Your grace turn my weaknesses into strengths and use me for Your work.

8 7 8 7 & Ref

1. When the pow'r of God descended
On the day of Pentecost,
All the days of waiting ended,
They received the Holy Ghost.
O Lord, send the pow'r just now,
O Lord, send the pow'r just now,
O Lord, send the pow'r just now,
And baptize, every one.

2. Tongues of flame came down upon them,
And they preached the word in pow'r,
List'ning multitudes awaken'd
Turned to God that very hour.

3. We are waiting Holy Spirit
We are all of one accord,
Lord fulfil just now the promise
That is given in Thy Word

4. Fill and thrill us with thy presence,
Grant the blessing that we need
Flood our souls with wondrous glory,
While the pray'r of faith we plead.

Amen.

DAVID'S HUMILITY

MEMORISE

So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward (1 Samuel 16:13).

READ:
1 Samuel 16:1-13

[1]. Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.”

[2]. And Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” But the Lord said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’

[3]. Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.”

[4]. So Samuel did what the Lord said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, “Do you come peaceably?”

[5]. And he said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.

[6]. So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him!”

[7]. But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

[8]. So Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”

[9]. Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”

[10]. Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.”

[11]. And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.”

[12]. So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”

[13]. Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

EXPOSITION

David was anointed to be king, but he did not immediately ascend to the throne. His path to leadership was long and filled with challenges. After his anointing, David served under king Saul, facing many hardships, including being pursued and wrongly accused. During these years, David learnt vital lessons in humility, patience, and trust in God's plan (1 Sam. 16:13; 24:6).

Although, David was chosen by God, the process of preparing him for kingship was slow and often difficult. He served without seeking recognition, showing humility in his actions (18:5). Through these trials, David trusted God's timing, knowing that God's plans are always perfect (Ps. 27-14).

David's journey teaches us valuable lessons: to embrace humility, to serve faithfully even when unappreciated, and to trust that God will fulfil His promises in His own time. As leaders, we are called to trust God's process in preparing us for greater things (Isa. 55:8-9). David's example encourages us to wait on the Lord and remain faithful, regardless of the challenges.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me remain humble, even when I am overlooked or mistreated.

2. Father, teach me to serve faithfully and learn in my time of waiting.

3. God, give me a heart like David's, trusting in Your timing for exaltation.

1. Once more, my soul, thy Saviour,
Thro' the Word Is offer'd full and free;
And now, O Lord, I must, I must decide:
Shall I accept of Thee?

Chorus:
I will! I will!
I will, God helping me,
I will O Lord be thine
Thy precious blood was shed
to purchase me
I will be wholly Thine!

2. By grace I will Thy mercy now receive,
Thy love my heart hath won;
On Thee, O Christ, I will, I will believe,
And trust in Thee alone!

3. Thou knowest, Lord, how very weak I am
And how I fear to stray;
For strength to serve I look to Thee alone
The strength Thou must supply!

4. And now, O Lord, give all with us today
The grace to join our song;
And from the heart to gladly with us say;
"I will to Christ belong!"

5. To all who came, when Thou wast here below
And said, "O Lord, wilt Thou?"
To them, "I will!" was ever Thy reply:
We rest upon it now.

Amen.

TOPIC: RUNNING WITH FOCUS

MEMORISE:
You did run well; who did hinder you that you should not obey the truth? - (Galatians 5:7)

READ:
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NKJV)

[24] Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

[25] And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

[26] Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.

[27] But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

EXPOSITION:
The Christian life is like a race, where the goal is not just to finish but to win the prize – the eternal crown of glory and righteousness. Paul encourages us to run with purpose, like an athlete striving for victory (1 Corinthians 9:24). Our ultimate goal is heaven, and we must keep our eyes fixed on that eternal reward. Jesus says, I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day (John 9:4). This reminds us to make the most of our time on earth by diligently serving God and fulfilling His purpose for our lives.

It is easy to get distracted by worldly pursuits, but we must avoid anything that hinders our progress (Hebrews 12:1). Like a runner who focuses on the finish line, we must persevere, trusting in God's grace to help us complete the race. James 1:12 reminds us, Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life.

Though, we don't know how much time we have, we can make everyday count by living with purpose and commitment to our heavenly call (Philippians 3:14). May we not fail God and ourselves. Amen.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, help me to run with focus, avoiding distractions that hinder my race.

2. Father, grant me the strength to persevere and stay true to Your purpose for my life.

3. Pray for more of God's power and presence in CAC Sophia Ajayi Region, in the life of our father, the Regional Superintendent, other officers and members at various levels, in Jesus' name.

[2]. all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

[3]. all ate the same spiritual food,

[4]. and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

[5]. But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

[6]. Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.

[7]. And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”

[8]. Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;

[9]. nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;

[10]. nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

[11]. Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

[12]. Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

[13]. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

EXPOSITION

Murmuring is another attitude that the living God detests. It is equated with nagging. It is vexatious way of request, demand and protest. It is constant and consistent negative complaints. It is an attitude of dissatisfaction with everything, including God. Apostle Paul warned New Testament believers to beware of this hateful attitude (Num. 11:1).

Instead of complaints, Paul admonishes: _Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God_ (Php. 4:6). This is the ideal and acceptable Christian way of relating with God. By this, _the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus_ (v. 7).

Those who murmur lack the heart of thanksgiving. Nothing satisfies them. Instead of being grateful, they are great fools. Beloved, instead of giving too many complaints about what God hasn't done, have you ever thanked Him for those that He did?

PRAYER POINTS

1. Thank God for all He has provided for our good.

2. Pray against every insatiable spirit of dissatisfaction with God.

3. Pray for more of God's power and presence in CAC Babalola Region, in the life of our father, the Regional Superintendent, other officers and members at various levels, in Jesus' name.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CACGHB: 732

8 7 8 7 D

1. Jesus, I my cross have taken,
All to leave, and follow Thee;
Destitute, despis'd, forsaken,
Thou from hence my All shalt be:
Perish every fond ambition,
All I've sought, or hop'd, or known,
Yet how rich is my condition!
God and Heav'n are still my own!

2. Man may trouble and distress me,
'Twill but drive me to Thy breast;
Life with trials, hard may press me,
Heav'n's will bring me sweeter rest!
Oh! 'tis not in grief to harm me,
While Thy love is left to me!
Oh! 'twere not in joy to charm me,
Were that joy unmixed with Thee!

3. Take, my soul, thy full Salvation,
Rise o'er sin and fear and care;
Joy to find in every station,
Something still to do or bear,
Think what Spirit dwells within thee!
What a Father's smile is thine!
What a Saviour died to win thee!
Child of Heav'n, shouldst thou repine?

4. Haste then on from grace to glory,
Arm'd by faith, and wing'd by pray'r,
Heav'n Eternal Day's before thee,
God's own Hand shall guide thee
there!
Soon shall close thy earthly mission,
Swift shall pass thy pilgrim days,
Hope soon change to glad fruition,
Faith to sight and pray'r to praise.

Amen.

[Read a Book Day]

TOPIC:
WORSHIP THROUGH HYMNS AND PSALMS

MEMORISE

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).

READ:
Ephesians 5:17-20

[17]. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

[18]. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

[19]. speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

[20]. giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

EXPOSITION

Books hold immense power they shape minds, challenge perspectives, and preserve wisdom across generations. On Read a Book Day, we celebrate the richness of written words and their ability to inspire transformation. Among the most sacred texts in Christian faith are hymn books and the Book of Psalms, which serve not only as literary treasures but as profound guides for worship and spiritual reflection.

Paul understood this deeply. In prison. he and Silas lifted their voices in hymns invoking God's presence and power (Acts 16:25-26). Hymns are not mere songs they carry theological depth reminding us of God's sovereignty and steadfast love. They connect us to the faith of those who came before us, shaping our understanding of worship and devotion.

Yet, modern worship trends often replace the reverence of hymns with fleeting emotional expressions. The Psalms and classic hymns offer a return to biblical worship -- a way of engaging with God that prioritizes truth over mere feeling. Read a Book Day calls us to preserve and cherish the written works that illuminate our faith. May we rediscover the beauty of singing hymns and meditating on God's Word, making worship a lifestyle rather than an occasional practice.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, deepen my passion for worship through hymns and Psalms, that I may encounter You afresh.

2. Father, let my worship be rooted in truth, reflecting reverence and spiritual maturity.

3. God, restore the depth of heart-reviving worship in our homes and churches.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CACGHB: 87

6 6 6 6 8 8

1. We give immortal praise
To God the Father's love
For all our comforts here
And better hopes above,
He sent His own eternal Son;
To die for sins that man had done,

2. To God the Son belongs
Immortal glory too
Who bought us with His blood.
From everlasting Woe;
And now He lives, and now He reigns,
And sees the fruit of all His pains.

3. To God the Spirit's name
Immortal worship give,
Whose new- creating pow'r
Makes the dead sinner live .
His work completes the great design,
And fills the soul with joy divine.

4. Almighty God to Thee
Be endless honours done.
The undivided Three.
And the mysterious One.
Where reason fails, with all her pow'r
There faith prevails and love adores.

Amen.
