TO SHOW THAT GOD CAN USE ANYONE, NOMATTER HIS STATUS OR RANK TO ACHIEVE HIS PURPOSE, ONCE HE CHOOSES,HE EQUIPS.
INTRODUCTION
To the canal eye, Moses was the most unlikely person to lead the Israelites out of their
bo***ge in Egypt; this was someone who was not supposed to live according to the decree ofPharaoh; but his live was miraculously preserved by God and he ended up in Pharaoh's palace
and lived a protected life. He was not really affected too much by the condition of his peopleas he enjoyed the Palace's protection and other privileges.
His first foray into politics wastaking side with an Hebrew who was being beaten by an Egyptian, he killed the Egyptian and
could have continued his protected life in the Palace, but was betrayed by a fellow Israelitewhen he tried to play the part of a peace maker the next day, "Who made thee a prince and ajudge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? (Exodus 2:14).
Thereafter, Moses fled Egypt and became a fugitive.
GOD INTRODUCED HIMSELF
While tendering the flocks of his father-in-law, Jethro on Mount Horeb, he saw a sight that hehad never seen or heard about before, that was, fire burning without consuming the grass, he
decided to turn aside to take a closer look, ".. God called unto him out of the midst of the
bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: putoff thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. Moreoverhe said, l am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob..." (Exodus 3:4-6).
MOSES SENT TO DELIVER THE ISRAELITES FROM EGYPTIAN BO***GE
After God had introduced Himself, Moses was afraid 'to look upon God' and he hid his face.God went on to tell Moses, "Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is comeunto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. Comenow therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people, thechildren of Israel out of Egypt." (Exodus 3:9-10). Moses was perturbed by this request and hesaid, ..Who am i, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bringforth the children of Israel out of Egypt? (Exodus 3:11). God reassured Moses,
".. Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: Whenthou has brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain"(Exodus 3:12).
Moses not forgetting his bitter experience that turned him into a fugitive told God that the children of Israel will not believe him, ".. But, behold, they will not believe me, nor
hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee" (Exodus 4:1).
At this point, God decided to equip him for the task ahead and asked, "... What is that in thinehand? And he said, A rod. And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; ....And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take itby the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand" (Exodus4:2 4). Furthermore, the Lord told Moses, ".. Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put
his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow. And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again;and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh" (Exodus4:6-7).
God did not stop there, "And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also thesetwo signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and
pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become bloodupon the dry land" (Exodus 4:9).
CONCLUSION
Moses came up with other reasons why he was not the right person for the task, but God kepton equipping him. "And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neitherheretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but l am slow of speech, and of aslow tongue" (Exodus 4:10); to resolve this, God choose his brother Aaron to be his
spokesperson,".. Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. And thou shalt speak unto him, and put Words in his mouth and I will be with thy mouth, and
with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. And he shall be thy spokesman unto thepeople: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to himinstead of God. And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs"(Exodus 4:14 17).
Thus Moses was properly equipped for the war of liberation of the children of Israel from theirEgyptian task masters.
