THEME: THE PURSUIT OF KNOWING GOD:
THE STEPS TO KNOWING GOD (PART 2)
(THE DIMENSIONS OF SACRIFICE IN THE STEPS TO KNOWING GOD)
PREACHER: Rev. ADEOBA KOLAWOLE
TEXT: MATTHEW 4:18-22

INTRODUCTION
It is crucial to remind ourselves that the steps to knowing God are sacrificial in nature. Thus, before we continue to consider other steps to knowing God, it is important to underscore the Dimensions of sacrifice involved in the steps to knowing God.

The disciples or early apostles are the examples for us in this study, in their pursuit to know God, what were those things they sacrificed, this will help us to prepare our hearts for the same, because the God they were called to know is the same God of every generation.

DIMENSIONS OF SACRIFICE IN THE STEPS TO KNOWING GOD
(THE TEXT)

1. Sacrifice of location (vs 18-22): Area of Galilee fell into the Northern part of Israel, the area was blessed with a sea called, sea of Galilee, which was also being called Sea of Tiberra or Genesaret. Also it could be described as an area that was lively and highly commercialised because of fishing activities.

Besides, it was an area known for importing and exporting activities because it was the location of the port. Summarily, area around the Sea of Galilee was a place attractive to all and sundry for settlement. This was the area, the disciples sacrificed in their guest for knowing God.

Challenge: Knowing God may warrant you sacrificing your location or comfort zone.

2. Sacrifice of profession or carrier (vs 18-22): They didnot only sacrifice their location, they sacrificed their carrier too. They grew up in the fishing profession, they were so famous, I guess they were suppliers to many people apart from regular feeding of their families.

As good as that profession was to them, they sacrifice it for the pursuit of knowing God.

Challenge: Knowing God may not warrant you sacrificing your carrier but will definitely warrant you creating time and space from your carrier to know God.

3. Sacrifice of family tie (vs 21-22): John and James detarch from their father, they were so close and knitted to him, to extent that they engaged in the same business, therefore, they sacrificed the family tie.

Challenge: Knowing God will necessitate sacrificing the family tie like Joseph of old.

4. Sacrifice of known for unknown (vs 18-22): Peter and other disciples were knowledgeable in the fishing profession which is described as "known" they had to sacrifice what they know or knowledgeable about for what they did not know.

It is interesting to know that Peter ended his epistle on knowing God. (2Peter 3:18) "growing in grace and knowledge of our God".

Challenge: Knowing God will necessitate sacrificing what you known (knowledge) for unknown (the knowledge of God).

THEME: BEHIND THE VEIL: BELIEVERS' RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, LIFE BEHIND THE VEIL (PART 4)
TEXT: LUKE 1:5-6 & PSALM 24:3-6
PREACHER: REV ADEOBA KOLAWOLE

INTRODUCTION
The followings are things to note with respect to the life behind the veil:
1. What retains us behind the veil is the life, not other things. It is not zeal. What retained somebody like Moses on Mount Sinai was not his zeal for the children of Israel but his life or lifestyle.

2. Life behind the veil is a lifestyle that starts from outside the veil and continues behind the veil. Invariably, the same lifestyle behind and outside the veil is expected.

3. Behind the veil becomes a place of struggle, trouble and inconvenience when the expected and proper lifestyle is missing. In Exodus 19, the Lord sent Moses to the Israelites to consecrate themselves for Mount Sinai experience. In essence, they should have what it takes to stand on the Mountain. Failure to have the proper and expected lifestyle makes the place, a place of struggle and trouble.

THE LIFE THAT RETAINS A MAN BEHIND THE VEIL
Note: One thing is to ascend or enter unto behind the veil, another thing is to stand in the place, according to Psalm 24:3. Thus, we shall look at the life that retains a man behind the veil in the above passages.

A. Luke 1:5-6,
This is the life that retained Zacharias in the Holy of Holies.
1. Righteousness before God (vs 6a): It implies that his righteousness was accredited and approved by God. Therefore, a life of righteousness approved by God retains us behind the veil.

2. Walking in all the commandments and ordinances of God blameless. (vs 6): Any man that will last in his relationship with God behind the veil must have a life that is walking in all the commandments and ordinances of God blameless.

B. PSALM 24:3-6
This is the type of life emphasised by David for anyone that will stand in the Holy of Holies: free from
1. A life that has clean hands (vs 4a): Corrupt dealings, underhandedness, dishonesty etc.

2. A life of pure heart (vs 4b): Corruption and defilement within.

3. A life that is free from idolatry (vs 4c): different forms of idolatry

4. A life that is free from deceitful sworning (vs 4d): Yes is yes and no is no.

This is life (everything put together) that will retain a main in the Holy of Holies. Note again, failure to have and expected life behind the veil makes the place, a place of struggle.

TOPIC: JESUS ON THE CROSS: ITS IMPLICATION ON RELATIONSHIP {PART 2}
TEXT: JOHN 19:25-27

INTRODUCTION
The journey of Jesus Christ to the cross addressed a lot of proplems or issues of life, one of them is relationship issues or problems namely:

1. Believers interpersonal relationship - John 19"25-27

2. Relationship between the believers and God - Matt. 27:51

3. Relationship between the sinners and God - Luke 23:34

4. Relationship between God and the deads - Matt. 27:51-53

Summarily, Jesus on the cross addressed four different kinds of relationship issues. Our study today focuses on interpersonal relationship. Therefore, we shall examine the type of interpersonal relationship established by Jesus on the cross.

THE TYPE OF BELIEVERS INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP ESTABLISHED ON THE CROSS ( JOHN 19:25-27)

1. It is a relationship that ties the old and the young ones together.(vs 26:27): It is a relationship that brings the old and the young ones together, The old ones are not claiming superiority while the young ones are feeling inferior,

the old ones are not standing on tradition while the young ones on civilisation or westernization, the old ones are not celebrating orthodoxy while young ones are not celebrating pentecostalism.

2. It is a relationship that transcends biological relationship. (vs 27): The mother of Jesus followed John the beloved into his house and he began to take care of her.

From worldly point of view, it is abnormal. But this is the type of interpersonal relationship established by Jesus on the cross.

3. It is a relationship wherein the young ones are more responsible. (vs 27): The disciple whom Jesus loved took responsibility. He took the woman into his home performing his responsibility as expected.

One of many things that wrecked or ruined our interpersonal relationship as believers is irresponsibility of the young ones.

4. It is a relationship that goes beyond the public. (vs 27): Believers' interpersonal relationship transcends public; church premises, fellowship e.t.c.

We can describe the mother of Jesus and the disciple as believers, there relationship started from the cross and continue to any other place.
Another problem of believers' interpersonal relationship is that, it starts and ends in the church.

PALM SUNDAY
TOPIC: A DONKEY OR C**T FOR JESUS
TEXT: MARK 11:1-10
PREACHER: REV. ADEOBA KOLAWOLE

INTRODUCTION
At the beginning of the passion week, Jesus rode on a donkey to Jerusalem. Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God rode on a donkey. Compare the nature of a lamb with that of a donkey, they look alike, they resemble each other. It implies that Christ, the lamb of God can only use a vessel that is nature look like that of His. Jesus did not use horse or any other animal because of incompatibility in nature. Our study focuses on the donkey Jesus used for His last journey to Jerusalem, the aim is to be prepared and available as vessels for God.

THE TEXT
1. It was a donkey that was restricted and reserved for Christ. (vs 2): The c**t or donkey that was tied means it was restricted. Also, the phrase "on which no one has sat" means it was reserved for Christ. Therefore, the c**t was restricted and reserved.

Issue: Anyone that will be a donkey for Christ or vessel for Christ's use must be restricted and reserved.

2. It was a donkey that was isolated. (vs 4): When an animal is isolated, it could be either of these reasons; it is isolated for it not to be infected or corrupted by others or for it not to corrupt or infect others. The donkey or c**t Jesus rode was isolated for it not to be corrupted; to be pure.

Issue: Any vessel that God will use must stay away from every form of corruption (Isolation from corruption).

3. It was a donkey that was ready to cooperate. (vs 2a&4b): Jesus commanded His disciples to loose it and they loose it without stress, it did not struggle with them. This is optimum cooperation.

Issue: Any vessel that will be used by God must ready to cooperate or demonstrate optimum cooperation.

4. It was a donkey that was dressed for Christ. (vs 7): They threw their clothes on it before Jesus sat on it. They dressed it first before Jesus used it, He did not use it raw, no it was dressed.

Issue: God wants His donkey or vessel to be dressed before He starts using it. The raw-materials must be processed before using.

5. It was a donkey that was honoured because of the user. (vs 8): An ordinary donkey became honoured because of the user. Who will respect a donkey if it stand alone? But because Jesus sat on it, the honour of Jesus extended to the donkey.

Issue: Jesus on you as a vessel makes you an honourable vessel or somebody.

THEME: THE PURSUIT OF KNOWING GOD (PART 8)
SUB-TOPIC: WHAT KNOWING GOD ENTAILS: FELLOWSHIP OF CHRIST'S SUFFERING
PREACHER: Rev. ADEOBA KOLAWOLE
TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 3:10

INTRODUCTION
Christ is our pioneer in suffering. Christ suffered for us to have salvation, His suffering to us as believers should not only form an integral part of our gospel message, we should not only claim the blessing of Christ's suffering, but we should share from His suffering. Principally, suffering comes from the enemies of the gospel. In this study, we shall examine the necessity of sufering and its blessings. Also, we shall conclude with believers altitudes to suffering because time will not permit us to consider forms of suffering.

THE NECESSITY OF SUFFERING AND ITS BLESSINGS
1. It brings about glorification. (Rom.8:17-18): As joint heirs with Christ if will want to be glorified, we must pass through what He went through for Him to be glorified, Philippians 2:8-9 also emphasised Christ suffering and glorification. Thus, sharing in Christ suffering makes us to share in His glorification.

2. It is necessary for cessation of sin. (1Peter 4:1): The suffering that brings about cessation of sin could be discribed as internal, what we do to ourselves that brings about cessation of sin. Discipling one to live for the will of God. Jesus did not attain holiness as a result of divine nature, but He attained it through what He suffered from, (Heb. 5:8) i.e internal suffering. Hence, suffering brings about cessation of sin.

3. It is necessary for perfection or completness. (Heb 2:10): The captain of our salvation which is Jesus became perfect through sufferings. He was not deficient, there was no loophole of suffering. He was complete. Suffering makes us complete as believers. There is no believer that is going to be complete without suffering.

BELIEVERS ATTITUDE TO SUFFERINGS (1 PETER 2:20-23)
1. Patience. (vs 20)
2. Calling. (vs 21)
3. Meekness. (vs 23a)
4. Committing oneself to God (vs 23b)
These attitudes make us commendable before God.

2018 SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNUAL BIBLE STUDY
TOPIC: ELISHA: A TRUE PROPHET OF GOD
TEXT: 1KINGS 19:15-21
Preacher: Reverend Adeoba Kolawole

INTRODUCTION
The prophetic ministry is prominent in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible inlike other ministries such as apostle and evangelist. This study is out of the concern for the widespread of the activities of false prophets, therefore, we shall concentrate on the identities of a true prophet of God, as we use Elisha as our case study.

IDENTITIES OF A TRUE PROPHET: ELISHA AS A CASE STUDY
1. The call. (1kings 19:19-20): A true prophet must receive his call from God, just like Elisha, a true prophet has a genuine call.

Issue: It is a pity today that some people ascribe to themselves the title "Prophet" even when they were not actually called.

2. Training. (1kings 19:21): A true prophet is properly trained. This was evedent in the life of Elisha; he was under the tutelage of Elijah

Issue: Training makes a true prophet.

3. Evidence of the Fruits of the Spirit. (2kings 2): Elisha demonstrated patience or long suffering and humility which are of the fruits of the spirit on the last day of his master, Elijah.

Issue: The fruits of the spirit makes a prophet, the true prophet of God not prophecy.

4. Ability to teach and make disciples. (2kings 4:38): This text reveals the sons of prophet under the tutelage of Elisha. Thus, he demontrated an ability to teach and make disciples.

Issue: Impacting others is an identity of a true prophet of God.

5. His words came to pass. (2kings 4:16;7:1): In these texts, Elisha made declarations and they came to pass.

Issue: Prophets of today, most of them are not oracles of God, they speak and nothing comes out of it.

6. Not money conscious. (2kings 5:16): Elisha returning the gift of Namaan to him showing that he was not conscious of his gift.

Issue: The drive of a true prophet of God is not money.

7. Vessel for miracle: Elijah performed 16 miracles, Elisha performed 32 miracles, as a result of what he demanded from Elijah.

Issue: It is true that the prophets of God are vessels for miracle, but we must be careful not to be deceived by their miracles

CONCLUSION
The opposites of the identities of true prophet of God are being reflected by the false prophets today.

THEME: THE PURSUIT OF KNOWING GOD (PART 7)
PREACHER: REV. ADEOBA KOLAWOLE
SUB-TOPIC: WHAT KNOWING GOD ENTAILS: KNOWING THE POWER OF CHRIST'S RESURRECTION
TEXT: PHIL. 3:10; ROMANS 6:4-5; EPH. 2:6-7; JN. 12:24 & RM. 7:4

INTRODUCTION
There are many resurrection stories before and after Christ's resurrection in the Bible. Through the ministry of Elisha, the son of the Shunammite was raised. Even Elisha's bones in the tomb raised the dead. All these and many more are resurrections in the Old Testament. In the Nes Testament, Lazarus, widow's son of Nain, Tabitha and Jesus resurrected. What made the resurrection of Jesus so spectacular among others that christians including Paul are persuaded to know. It is worthy of note that there is no way we talk about resurrection that we will not make reference to death.

UNIQUENESS OF CHRIST'S RESURRECTION
1. Becoming the recipients of new life. (Rm. 6:4-5): When a seed is planted, few days after, germination occurs. Out of the old one, the new one comes out. Our union, identification and knowing Christ's resurrection extends or connects us with the process of His resurrection or makes us the partaker of His resurrection and ultimately produces new life.

Challenge: Are you finding it difficult to have a new life, connect or unite yourself with Christ's resurrection, it will come out effortlessly.

2. Securing seat in the heavenly places now and after. (Eph. 2:6-7): By the reason of knowing and being united with Christ's resurrection, we have a seat in the heavenly places, we have a representation, this is Jesus Christ.

Implications: (1) Your seat in heavenly places makes you to be far above principalities, demons, and any force of darkness.
(2) You are not restricted to this side alone, you are part of them in the heavenly places.

3. Bearing fruit unto the Lord. (Jn. 12:24 & Rm. 7:4): In John 12:24, Jesus predicted His death and resurrection of fruit bearing which eventually came to pass. You and I are part of the fruits. The purpose of knowing and being united with Christ's resurrection is to bring about our fruitfulness.

Challenge: Fruitfulness is guarrantee through knowing and being united with ressurction of Jesus.

2018 THEME INTERPRETATION (PART 5)
TOPIC: THE PURSUIT OF KNOWING GOD
SUB-TOPIC: THE NECESSITIES FOR KNOWING GOD
TEXT: JOHN 1:35-41

INTRODUCTION
Before going back to the epistle of Paul to the Phillipians, it is important to know the necessities for knowing God. Just as holiness is a necessity for seeing God (Heb. 12:14), so also we must know the necessities for knowing God. Mary and Martha were lovers of Jesus, but Mary knew the necessity while Martha did not. Failure to know the necessities make us to chase shadow and fantasy instead of reality like Martha. Therefore, we shall look at the above passage to establish four necessities for knowing God.

THE TEXT
1. Introduction. (vs 35-36): Here, we see John the Baptist introducing Jesus to his disciples as he saw him walking. The introduction of Jesus by John the Baptist started from Verse 29. In a nutshell, he made detail and comprehensive introduction of Jesus to the disciples.

Issues:
I. Every introducer must be detail and comprehensive in his or her introduction about God just like John the Baptist.
II. Are you seeking to know God, look for his introduction, move close to correct introducers of God.

2. Decision. (vs 37): The disciples that were following John the Baptist left him and decided to follow Jesus. Decision to follow Jesus is a necessity in knowing God. Considering the intimacy of these disciples with John, it was hard for them to decide, if not decision.

Issue: Knowing God calls for decision: It is a matter of decision, if not, they would not have parted with John.

3. Sacrifice. (vs 38-39): Learning their abode, travelling with Jesus and staying with Him were great sacrifices for the disciples to know God. Knowing the level and status of these disciples will help us to appreciate their sacrifices better.

Issue: Sacrifice is a necessity for knowing God. Sacrifice of time, pleasure, comfort, money etc

4. Personal discovery. (vs 40-41): Jesus was introduce to them as "the Lamb of God" in Verse 35. In Verse 41, one of the disciples made his own personal discovery which was "the Messiah"

Issue: Every introducer will introduce God to you based on their own knowledge about Him, it is left for you to make your own discovery about Him. This personal discovery is a necessity in knowing God.

2018 M.M.U EMPHASIS WEEK
TOPIC: BENDED KNEES IN PRAYER
PREACHER: REV. ADEOBA KOLAWOLE
TEXT: GENESIS 32:6-12

INTRODUCTION
The topic for this year emphasis centers on prayer. Much are being said or discussed about prayer today, but until we come to appreciate the truths that makes prayer effective, our effort in prayer will produce fruit. Jacob is our character for this year's study, we shall commence from his error and later move on to establish foundations for bended knees in prayer.

A. JACOB'S ERROR (vs 6-8)
When Jacob was consious of a problem before him i.e the coming of Esau his brother whom he had duped or cheated, he gimmick to solve the problem instead of the later one. (prayer or bended knees). Prayer was after thought.

Lesson: Unfortunately, most of us fall into the same error today. We apply gimmick, ungodly scheme first, when they failed us, we come back to prayer. It is note worthy that gimmick will always fail us, but prayer cannot fail.

B. FOUNDATIONS FOR BENDED KNEES IN PRAYER. (vs 9-12)
1. Relationship. (vs 9a): Jacob based his prayer on generational relationship. The relationship that existed between his forefathers and God, and that of himself.

Lesson: Our knees should bend on existing relationship between us and God, i.e relationship should be the foundation for our bended knees.

2. God's instruction. (vs 9b): Another foundation is instruction Jacob received from God. The Lord gave a definite instruction for his journey, this served as a basis for his bended knees.

Lesson: There must be an instruction from God which will stand as foundation for our bended knees.

3. Steadfast love and faithfulness of God. (vs 10): Jacob recognised the steadfast love and faithfulness of God in his life and journey. He used it as foundation for his prayer; bended knees.

Lesson: Understanding of this should form a strong basis or foundation for bended knees.

4. The promises of God. (vs 12): Jacob re-affirmed the promises of God to him, which he was very sure of. This formed the basis for his bended knees.

Lesson: Remembrance of God's promise is a good foundation for bended knees. The children of Israel in Exodus 3 remembered the promise of God and bended thier knees in prayer. Daniel also remembered the promise of God and bended his knees in prayer.

2018 THEME INTERPRETATION
THEME: THE PURSUIT OF KNOWING GOD (PART 4)
PREACHER: REV. ADEOBA KOLAWOLE
SUB-TOPIC: PREPARATION FOR THE PURSUIT
TEXT: LUKE 9:57-62

INTRODUCTION
Still in the pre-pursuit exercises; things to settle before embarking on the pursuit. We shall look at what Jesus emphasised for, whoever that wants to pursue and know God through Him. In the last message we examined what Paul settled before embarking on the pursuit. I consider it proper to look at what Jesus put before anyone that desires to pursue and know God. By implication, it is not a journey to embark upon without due consideration.

THINGS TO SETTLE ACCORDING TO JESUS CHRIST
1. Counting of the cost. (vs 57-58): The response of Jesus to the intention and enthusiasm of this man is very crucial to anyone that wants to pursue and know God. Jesus did not bid him welcome immediately. He told him to go and count the cost because it is a journey with a lot of sacrifices.

Issue: A lot of people are backsliders today because they did not count the cost right from the inception. Therefore, count the cost.

2. The preeminence of God. (vs59-60): Here, a man was confronted with two things; the burial of his biological father and the pursuit of knowing God (following God), its by-product is proclaimation of the kingdom of God. Jesus told him to forgo the burial of his father and accept the preeminence of God.

Issue: Acceptance of the preeminence of God over and above anything in life must be settled before the pursuit.

3. The problem of procrastination and postponement. (vs59-60): The intention of this man was to shelf or postpone the pursuit of knowing God for his father's burial. Of course, the man had the mind of achieving both. Therefore, Jesus told him not procratinate or postpone the pursuit of God.

Issue: Nothing is as important as the pursuit of knowing God.

4. The problem of concentration and focus. (vs 61-62): Jesus did not condemn what this man wanted to do apparently, of course Elisha did the same. But he told him that the journey demanded concentration and focus; once you start, you do not look back.

Issue: The problem of concentration and focus must be settled by everyone that wants to pursue and know God. Once we lose concentration and focus, we are not fit for the journey again.

2018 W.M.U FOCUS WEEK
THEME: MOVING FORWARD: BUILDING A GREAT NATION THROUGH EFFECTIVE CHRISTIAN PARTICIPATION
PREACHER: REV. ADEOBA KOLAWOLE
TEXT: PROVERB 29:2 & GENESIS 41:9;53-57

INTRODUCTION
I perceive this year theme as a call to the Christians to participate in nation building through our christian faith. Proverbs 29:2 is telling us the reason christians must rise and participate in nation building, "when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules the people groan". The reason why there is groaning everywhere is because the righteous are not in authority. Therefore, we shall look at Josept a righteous man (Christian) who was involved in the authority of Egypt as our example in this study.

JOSEPT'S PARTICIPATION IN BUILDING THE NATION OF EGYPT (Gen. 41:9; 53-57)
1. Joseph's participation or involvement in the life of an individual. (vs9): This is the beginning of his participation in the nation building. He was involved in the life of the chief butler.

Insight: A christian that will participate in building a great nation must start from participation in the life of individuals. It must be from down to the top.

2. Joseph's participation through his faithfulness in the time of plenty. (vs 53-54): During the time of plenty, Josept did not create another store house in his father's house or somewhere and divert the produce or share them.

Insight: A christian that will participate in nation building must deal with unfaithfulness and selfishness.

3. Joseph a dependable man in nation building. (vs 55): Pharaoh depended on Joseph, he trusted him to the last. The phrase "Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you do" affirmed Joseph to be a dependable and trusted man in government.

Insight: A christian that will participate in nation building must be dependable and trust worthy.

4. Joseph, a man that is concerned for the welfarism of the citizenry, in nation building (vs 56): When there was famine in the land, Joseph opened all the store houses and sold to the Egyptians.

Insight: The first pre-occupation of any christian that will participate in building a great nation is welfarism of the citizenry.

5. Joseph, a righteous man that made name for Egypt (vs 57): All countries came to Egypt to buy grain for their survival. "No Egypt, no survival"

Insight: Any christian that will participate in nation building must strive not to make name for him or herself but for the nation. As you are making name for the nation, you are as well making name for yourself.
