A WALK THROUGH THE WILDERNESS
DAY 4 OF LENT: YEAR A

"I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" (Luke 5:32).

Lent is principally a period of interior conversion; a time to repent and return home. Jesus keeps calling us to let go of our unrighteous ways and follow him.

Jesus' statement here underscores God's merciful heart for those who recognize their shortcomings. It is an invitation to Repentance; for us to turn back to God who desires and is ever ready to welcome us back, regardless of our past or perceived shortcomings.

It is also an invitation to examine our hearts in sincerity: Are we like the Pharisees, thinking we are righteous, or like the sinners, recognizing our need for pardon and mercy?

Every saint has a past. And every sinner is a potential saint. Regardless of our past and present life, we can yet become saints if we heed to Jesus' call to follow him like Levi, the tax collector , 'a public sinner', did and has become Matthew, the evangelist.

Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me.

As we begin this year's Lenten season, a time characterized by prayer, fasting and almsgiving, may God walk you through every moment of the season and cause your spiritual exercises within this period to bear lasting fruits in your life.

Wishing you a spirit-filled Lenten season. 🙏
