Jesus Weeps Over Lives Lost to Sin, Calls Believers to Repentance — Bishop Solomon Nuhu

By Apolos Meshach

The Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Bonotem Diocese, Rt. Rev. Solomon Nuhu, has urged Christians to examine their lives, repent from sinful ways and return to God, stressing that Jesus Christ still weeps over people who deliberately turn away from Him.

The Bishop made the call while delivering his Sunday sermon at LCCN St. Mark’s Cathedral, Ganye, Adamawa State, with the message drawn from Luke 19:41–48, where Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem.

Rt. Rev. Nuhu explained that Jerusalem represented peace and was regarded as a significant city in the biblical history of God's people. However, despite its importance, the city eventually suffered destruction and was left desolate because of the people's disobedience and waywardness.

According to him, the tears of Jesus over Jerusalem demonstrated God's deep concern for the spiritual condition and future of humanity. He said Jesus did not cry because He was weak, but because He knew the consequences that would come upon the city as a result of its rejection of God's will.

The Bishop therefore challenged Christians to reflect on the condition of their lives and ask themselves whether their actions are pleasing to God.

“How is your life today? he asked, urging worshippers not to be carried away by outward appearances while neglecting their relationship with God.

He said Jesus Christ continues to “weep” over people whose lives are characterized by sin, disobedience and ungodly behaviour. He noted that just as Christ cried over Jerusalem because of its waywardness, He is also concerned about individuals and communities that have chosen to live contrary to God's commandments.

Rt. Rev. Nuhu further encouraged Christians to understand that tears can have different meanings, as people may cry because of joy, sorrow, pain, failure or the consequences of their actions.
