Nigerian Army Approves Major Shake-Up, Elevates 105 Senior Officers

The Nigerian Army has approved the promotion of 105 senior officers, elevating 28 from Brigadier General to Major General and 77 Colonels to Brigadier General, marking a major overhaul of its top command structure.

According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the promotions took effect following the Army Council’s approval on Thursday. The officers elevated occupy critical roles across intelligence, logistics, operations, training, and administrative departments.

Among those now Major Generals are O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency, S. M. Uba, Director of Defence Information, R. E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), R. T. Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations, and others responsible for key formations such as the Warrant Officer Academy, the Army Operations Centre, and the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and their families. He urged them to uphold their oath, demonstrate exemplary leadership, and meet the expectations that come with their new responsibilities, particularly as the Army faces evolving security challenges across the country.
