In Iraqi Kurdistan, a 69-year-old man named Ihsan Muhsin follows the same quiet routine every hot summer day. He lives in the Rzgari area of Kalar, and every morning, and then again in the evening, he leaves his home carrying plastic bottles filled with water. Step by step, he walks across the dry, empty plains to visit around 17 small drinking spots he has set up for birds and wild animals.

He has been doing this for about two years during the summer months, when the rain almost completely stops, rivers and wells get lower, and life in the desert becomes even harder. Because of his effort, doves, sparrows, rabbits and other creatures have learned to come to these little stations. They often sit nearby and wait, knowing that Ihsan will arrive with fresh water.

There is no charity or group behind him, and there are no cameras following him. He simply fills the bottles at home, walks out under the burning sun, and then quietly stands to one side while the animals gather and drink. He says he goes out every single day, no matter how hot it is or how tired he feels.

At a time when climate news often feels heavy and hopeless, his simple daily walk is a small but stubborn act of kindness that helps keep these animals alive.
