10 WAYS TO DETECT A REBEL IN THE CHURCH
Not everyone sitting in the pew is submitted to God’s order. Some carry seeds of rebellion that, if unchecked, can infect an entire congregation.
10 signs to watch for:
(1) They Constantly Challenge Authority
They rarely agree with leadership decisions. They question everything, not out of genuine concern, but out of a desire to undermine trust in the leaders.
(2) They Whisper in Corners
Rebels rarely confront openly. They gather small circles to complain, murmur, and spread suspicion behind closed doors.
(3) They Disguise Bitterness as “Discernment”
They label their offense as “God showed me…” or “I’m just discerning,” when in reality it’s unresolved hurt fueling criticism.
(4) They Refuse Correction
When lovingly corrected, they become defensive, angry, or distant instead of humble and repentant.
(5) They Gather the Discontented
Rebels attract others who are hurt, frustrated, or spiritually immature, forming an unhealthy alliance against the church’s unity.
(6) They Subtly Undermine the Vision
They question the church’s mission and priorities, suggesting “better ways” that create division rather than unity.
(7) They Withhold Support
Rebels will stop giving, stop serving, or pull back participation while still staying around to recruit others to their side.
(8) They Crave Attention
They want recognition, positions, or influence. When they don’t get it, offense follows.
(9) They Twist Scripture to Justify Themselves
They cherry-pick Bible verses to validate their attitude instead of submitting to the whole counsel of God.
(10) They Leave and Try to Take Others With Them
True rebels rarely leave quietly. They try to damage the church’s reputation or pull people away when they go.
Be wise. Be vigilant.
Unity is precious. Don’t allow the spirit of rebellion to find a foothold. Pray for restoration, but never tolerate division.
“Mark those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine you have learned; and avoid them.” (Romans 16:17)
