DAY 3 of

WHY NIGERIA NEEDS MORE CYBERSECURITY PROFESSIONALS
🔒 Welcome to Day 3 of our Cybersecurity Journey! Today, we're delving into a crucial topic: Why Nigeria urgently requires more cybersecurity professionals.

Introduction:
Cybersecurity isn't just a global concern—it's a pressing issue right here in Nigeria. With the rapid digitization of our society, the threat landscape has expanded exponentially. From financial fraud to data breaches, the risks are real and pervasive.

🔍 Rise of Cybercrime in Nigeria:
In recent years, Nigeria has witnessed a surge in cybercrime activities. From phishing schemes targeting unsuspecting individuals to sophisticated cyber-attacks on government institutions and businesses, the threat is ever-present. These cybercriminals exploit vulnerabilities in our digital infrastructure, causing significant financial losses and eroding trust in online platforms.
(Culled from: https://leadership.ng/nigeria-has-only-8352-cybersecurity-professionals-report/ )
Despite an increase in cyber attacks, Nigeria has only 8,352 Cybersecurity experts, which is one of the lowest in the world, a report has revealed.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported that 80 per cent of the 978 convictions it secured as of September 2021, were based on cyber fraud. Another report by Nigeria Inter Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) indicates that within nine months of 2020, fraudsters made 46,126 attempts to breach data-based systems. Sadly, 41,979 of these were successful – representing 91 per cent of the time.

🛡️ Vulnerabilities in Nigerian Infrastructure:
Our nation's digital infrastructure, although advancing rapidly, remains susceptible to cyber threats. Weaknesses in network security, outdated software, and insufficient cybersecurity measures leave us vulnerable to exploitation by cyber adversaries. As we embrace digital transformation, fortifying our infrastructure against cyber threats becomes imperative to safeguard our collective interests.

💼 High Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals:
In light of escalating cyber threats, there's a pressing need for skilled cybersecurity professionals in Nigeria. Organizations across various sectors, including finance, healthcare, and government, seek competent professionals to protect their digital assets and mitigate cyber risks. The demand far outweighs the current supply, creating abundant opportunities for aspiring cybersecurity enthusiasts.

Conclusion:
As cyber threats continue to evolve and proliferate, the importance of bolstering Nigeria's cybersecurity workforce cannot be overstated. By cultivating a robust community of cybersecurity professionals, we can fortify our digital defenses, protect our critical infrastructure, and foster a secure digital ecosystem for generations to come.

*LESSON FOR ALL*

VISIT THAT YOUR OLD TEACHER TODAY..

It is always good to celebrate those that brought you to limelight, because they are part of your success stories.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo visited his former class teacher and mentor, Pa James Popoola who was 92 years old , Pa James Popoola's family house is in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. He taught Olusegun Obasanjo in 1950 at the Baptist Boys High School in Abeokuta.

Obasanjo was accompanied by his former classmate, Jacob Omolade, who is the traditional ruler of Ibara. The former president engaged his retired teacher with old memories and banters to the admiration of the trio. Pa Popoola who was seeing Obasanjo for the first time in decades, said, “I can’t believe it. I am happy today. Very happy. You mean I will host you in my house today, before my death. It was 36 years ago I met you. You are welcome. Oh! I am delighted, very delighted.”

Obasanjo led him on his wheelchair back into the sitting room. Obasanjo said it has always been his desire to visit but for my tight schedule, he was unable.
“We are happy to see you sir. And I had told Kabiyesi that I am going to remind you of his behaviour in class. Do you remember sir? Obasanjo asked.
The former tutor’s wife, Mojisola Popoola, while contributing said, ‘Daddy often times remembers all your pranks. He must be very happy receiving you today.”

*Let's try as much as possible to celebrate those who impacted our lives positively, because your good deeds count*
