ALTAR SERVERS

To serve at the altar is more than wearing a cassock and surplice, it is a beautiful ministry of serving Christ and His Church.

The altar server stands close to the sacred mysteries, assisting the priest and helping the faithful enter more deeply into the celebration of the Holy Mass. Every candle carried, every bell rung, and every movement made with reverence can become an offering of love to God.

An altar server learns discipline, humility, reverence, and prayer. More importantly, he or she learns that true greatness is found in serving.

May every altar server remember, you are not merely serving at the altar; you are serving Christ Himself.

“Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant.” (Matthew 20:26)

Saint Thomas Aquinas(The Angelic Doctor)

Saint Thomas Aquinas stands as one of the greatest theologians and philosophers in the history of the Church. Born into a noble family in Roccasecca, Italy, he joined the Dominican Order against his family’s wishes and devoted his life to the search for truth. His quiet humility, deep prayer life, and extraordinary intellect earned him the titles Doctor Angelicus (Angelic Doctor) and Doctor Communis (Universal Doctor of the Church).

Aquinas sought to show that faith and reason are not opposed but harmoniously united. Drawing deeply from Sacred Scripture, the writings of the Church Fathers, and the philosophy of Aristotle, he developed a systematic and clear approach to theology that continues to shape Christian thought to this day.

Saint Thomas Aquina’s writings continue to influence theology, philosophy, canon law, and moral teaching. His clarity of thought, fidelity to the Church, and humble pursuit of truth make him a model for students, scholars, and all who seek to love God with both mind and heart. Canonized in 1323 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1567, his enduring legacy affirms that true wisdom leads not to pride, but to holiness.

“All that I have written seems like straw compared with what has now been revealed to me.”
— Saint Thomas Aquinas

Gospel of the Day (Luke 2, 22-35)

When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord," and to offer the sacrifice of "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons," in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel." The child's father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."

STORY OF A YOUNG ALTAR SERVER SERVING IN SILENCE

Brother Henry, a humble masserver, served faithfully at St. Mary's Catholic church. One Sunday, as he assisted Father Paschal, he felt a tap on his shoulder during communion. It was an elderly woman, handing him a small note. "Pray for my son," she whispered.

Moved, Henry prayed fervently. Later, he discovered the woman's son was a terminally ill boy. Miraculously, the boy recovered. The congregation whispered, "Henry's prayers are powerful Henry's devotion grew. He served at every Mass, praying for parishioners' needs. People sought him out, sharing struggles and requesting prayers. Father Paschal noticed Henry's gift and entrusted him with more responsibilities.

One day, a troubled teenager, struggling with addiction, approached Henry. He listened, prayed, and guided the teen to counseling. Slowly, the boy transformed. The parish buzzed with gratitude.
Henry's quiet service inspired others. He became a beacon, showing how faith and compassion can change lives The teenager, now clean and thriving, returned to thank Henry. Together, they led a support group, helping others overcome addiction the parish celebrated their journey
Henry's humility shone brighter. He continued serving, inspiring others to serve. His quiet faith moved mountains.
