Topic: Don’t Blend: Stand-out – Part 6

Text: 1Peter 2:7 – Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallow, the same is made the head of the corner (KJV)
Jesus Christ is an honour and a crown to those who believe in Him. This is why those who believe in Him will not be allowed to be put to shame; rather, they will be crowned with the glory of God. They will enjoy the power of His majesty; experience his grandeur, the dignity of His personality, His wonderful works, His great love, His steadfastness and His unfailing mercies.
Those who reject Christ will see themselves experiencing the reverse of the good things enjoyed by those who believe. They will not enjoy the honour and preciousness of Christ; and they will still find Him being in charge of all things (The Chief Corner Stone).
Do you want to enjoy the splendor of the majesty of Christ? Do you want to be a partaker of His blessedness? Do you want His glory to shine upon you? Even if all your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours engage in acts that disallow Christ, strive to stand out.
Prayer: Oh Lord! Give me the grace to stand out and continuously stick to you no matter the circumstances in Jesus name, Amen.
Yearly Bible Plan => Micah 1 – 4

Text: 1Peter 2:6 – As the scripture say, I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced (NLT)
Christ is the chief corner stone, and believers the lively stones that constitute the spiritual building where acceptable sacrifices should be offered.
As the foundation stone cannot be separated from the building, so you are to make every effort to be constantly and continuously attached to Christ. This ensures support, unity and beautification of your life. Any little detachment from the corner stone spells collapse.
When you trust in the strength of the corner stone (Jesus) to sustain and keep you, you cannot be disgraced or put to shame.
Sin, judgment and disappointment puts people into confusion; but true faith in Jesus Christ prevents one from experiencing confusion.
As you remain attached to the corner stone, may every element of disappointment, disgrace, and confusion be broken in your life in Jesus name, Amen.

Text: 1Peter 2:5 – Come as living stone, and let yourselves be used in building the spiritual temple, where you will serve as holy priests to offer spiritual and acceptable sacrifice to God through Jesus Christ (GNB)
Those who belong to Christ (The Living Stone) are lively stones. God uses these living stones to build a spiritual house (temple) not made of dead materials, but of lively materials.
Christians as living stones entails those who are alive to God by regeneration, and the working of divine spirit.
The temple itself is a spiritual temple: Christ is the foundation; the materials are spiritual persons; its furniture are the grace of the spirit; it is held together by the Spirit of God and our common faith; its use is for spiritual sacrifices, not of bulls and goats, but of our lives.
As holy priests of God, endowed with heavenly gift and grace, your spiritual sacrifices is your body, soul, affections, prayers, arms, and other spiritual duties.
These sacrifices must be offered through Jesus Christ – the High Priest. Every child of God should desire to be a holy and lively material for the spiritual temple. This is what will make you stand out.
Prayer: Oh Lord! Sanctify and make me a living stone suitable for the building of the spiritual temple in Jesus name, Amen.

Text: 1Peter 2:3-4 – If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen by God, and precious (KJV)
No one who must stand out has to attract popular acceptance, especially in this world where evil and convenience lifestyle rule.
If you have tasted that the Lord is good – acknowledging the authenticity of His work on the cross, and seeing the need to fall in line with His principles – then do not expect to be like others.
Jesus Christ is described as the rejected stone, which later become the chief corner stone, chosen by God, and precious.
Our utmost desire should be to have God’s approval, and not to get men’s acknowledgement. If you do this, those who had rejected you for being what you were made to be will one day discover that they cannot do without you.
This is because God will rob His glory, grace and precious gifts on you to make you different. May the grace for distinction locate you as you decide to fall in line with God’s plan in Jesus name, Amen.

Text: 1Peter 2:2 – As new born babies, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.
Growth is one of the indicators that one is different from the world. And this growth comes by taking the unadulterated milk of the word of God; the pure doctrines of the scriptures.
There are diverse adulterations and misinterpretations of the scripture today. And you must be careful to take into your life the raw, pure and unadulterated word.
Strong desire for the word of God is a sign that one has been truly changed from the life of sin to the new life. By this, there is growth and improvement in wisdom and grace.
When the word of God is rightly used, it does not leave one as it finds one; it improves and makes one better. This is the power to be stand out.
Have a strong desire for the pure word of God. It might hurt your perception, way of life, habit, but that is for the purpose of making you unique and helping you to grow.
Prayer: Oh Lord! Give me a strong desire for the unadulterated word in Jesus name, Amen.

Text: 1Peter 2:1 – So get rid of all evil behaviour. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy and all unkind speech (NLT)
We live in a world where human weaknesses are translated to philosophies. Thus, you hear stuffs like, “Everybody is doing it,” “You cannot be in a river and not drink water,” etc.
However, a Christian should be different and completely stand out – don’t blend. The grace of God that appears to all men teaches us to avoid ungodliness and worldly passion. You can stand out.
To be different, you must get rid of malice – which is produced by anger and expressed through rude behaviour or trying to hurt someone. You must avoid deceit manifested in flattery, falsehood, craftiness, taking advantage of someone’s ignorance or weakness.
Also, hypocrisy – double lifestyle, deceptive compliments, false promises, pretention, friendship, evil infested smiles; Envy – being angry at the good and welfare of others, their prosperity and/or fame; Evil speaking – character assassination, defaming someone, backbiting.
All these things hinder one from profiting in the word of God. Develop a godly character. Don’t allow any of these things to rule and/or ruin your life.
As you make the decision to stand out, may the Lord Almighty supply you the grace to live right and stand out in Jesus name, Amen.
Prayer: Oh Lord! Have mercy on me. Supply me with grace to be different in Jesus name, Amen.

Topic: The Ultimate Standard– Part 4

Text: Esther 3:2-4 – All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honour to Haman…. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honour. Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s command?” Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply … for he had told them he was a Jew (NIV).
The ultimate standard is not restricted to environment or geographical locations; it does not respect or succumb to situation. It transcends human dignity and geographical restrictions.
By law, a Jew is not supposed to give the kind of honour meant for God to ordinary humans. Bowing and kneeling are contents or measures used to honour and pledge allegiance to God. And it will be a dishonour for a Jew to do that to human.
Haman was promoted to the level that the king commanded that all the royal officials must kneel and bow to him. But Mordechai refused to obey this command, because it contradicted the ultimate standard.
Mordechai understood the implications of going against the king’s order and knew quite well that he is a stranger in that land; but this did not affect his understanding of his origin.
There is this corrupt and distorted view of “being like the Romans when you get to Rome”, which entails blending to the practices of the environment one finds oneself. Most times, people do this for personal gains or what they might say, for security purpose.
However, it should be known that the ultimate standard cannot be subjected to lesser rules or standards no matter the condition or situation. No matter where you find yourself, or the situation you encounter, even when it is life threatening, maintain the ultimate standard.
Truth is that when you lower the standard to gain something or save yourself from a situation, there is every tendency that you will still go down, but when you uphold the ultimate standard, like Mordechai, the gallows that is prepared to hang you will be used to hang your enemies, because God defends those who defend the ultimate standard, not minding the consequences. So, don’t let anything sway you from that standard. Stand firm!

Text: Jeremiah 35:1-8 – This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD…. “Go to the Recabite family and invite them to come to one of the side rooms of the house of the LORD and give them wine to drink”…. I brought them into the house of the LORD…. Then I set bowls full of wine and some cups before the men of the Recabite family and said to them, “Drink some wine.” But they replied, “We do not drink wine, because our forefather Jonadab son of Recab gave us this command: ‘Neither you nor your descendants must ever drink wine….’ We have obeyed everything our forefather, Jonadab son of Recab commanded us…. (NIV).
God’s standard does not change. From generation to generation, His standard has remained what it is without alterations. It is not subject to modification and amendment. Not even ‘prophecy’ or proclamation of ‘anointed men of God’’, can change God’s standard.
The Recabites were faced with a situation that tested their resolution to uphold the ultimate standard as handed to them by their forefather, Jonadab. They had been taught not to drink wine according to the ordinance of God.
However, Jeremiah, a renowned prophet, a great man of God, respected and held in high esteem; known for his undaunted nature in upholding godly tradition and divine ordinance, brought this people – the Recabites, to the house of God and offered them wine to drink.
The respect they had for Jeremiah and his high level of spirituality did not make this people succumb to the request or rather command of Jeremiah that they should drink wine, even when Jeremiah said, thus says the Lord, drink ye wine. They maintained the ultimate standard.
The many deviations from the ultimate standard prevalent in Christendom today are largely caused by men of God, great prophets, renowned Apostles, blazing with fire in their mouth and having high spiritual pedigree. Through their proclamations, actions and inactions, they alter the doctrine of Christ and enthrone practices and doctrines that contradict the ultimate standard.
Followers – both ignorant and gullible ones – subscribe to these aberrations and this is how the church is gradually becoming the same with the world.
The lesson to learn from the Recabites is that any practice or doctrine that does not conform to the doctrine of Christ should be rejected, no matter the pedigree of the person introducing the practice. It does not matter how they misquote and misinterpret scriptures to support such practices; be careful not to fall victim of such schemes.
Many have been led astray by doctrines that prominently contradict God’s ultimate standard. God’s word should be your scale for ascertaining what is right and wrong, and not men’s cunningly devised schemes and nightmares people have and call vision, and open eyed prophecies.
God pronounced an unending blessing on the Recabites for upholding the ultimate standard, and that is a very wonderful benefit of standing for the right thing. As you maintain and uphold the ultimate standard, and refuse to be swayed by the doctrine of men, may you receive an unending promise and blessing from the Lord in Jesus name, Amen.

Text: Judges 6:1, 7-10 – Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, and for seven years he gave them into the hands of the Midianites …. When the Israelites cried to the LORD … he sent a prophet, who said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel says: I brought you up out of Egypt …. I snatched you from the power of Egypt and from the hand of all your oppressors. I drove them from before you and gave you their land. I said to you; I am the LORD your God; do not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live. But you have not listened to me.” (NIV).
Standard is used to describe features, qualities and/or manner of behaviour deemed acceptable by people or by society. In families, religious organizations, offices, corporate organizations and almost everywhere, there are standards that govern how people relate and perform their duties and responsibilities.
God has standard, and His is the ultimate standard. When the standard of men clash with God’s standard, that of men should be declared null and void, unacceptable and useless.
The Israelites, after being rescued from Egyptian slavery and given the ultimate standard, decided at a point to abandon it and tilt toward men’s standard. They engaged in idolatry and all sorts of wickedness. They did not even see anything wrong with it.
God was angry and handed them over to oppressors who dealt with them mercilessly. Then Gideon was raised to rescue them when they cried unto God for help.
However, they turned to kill Gideon when he destroyed the idols for which they were suffering. They wanted to be rescued but to be allowed to continue in idolatry. It was not evil in their sight but it was evil in the sight of the Lord. This is the position of many Christians today. They want to be rescued from the oppression of the enemy but want to remain in the standard for which the oppression is validated. Terrible!
There are many things today that men practice and approve as acceptable which do not conform to the ultimate standard. Being approved by men does not make such things acceptable. It may be established by popular opinion; everybody might be doing it, but it does not justify its validity and acceptability before God.
Wherever you find yourself, don’t allow yourself to be swayed by men’s standard. It is only God that has the ultimate standard for ascertaining what is evil; what is acceptable, and what is approved. Maintain God’s standard!
