If I have the opportunity to rule Nigeria just for a day, one of the many issues I would have to tackle urgently is this issue of a young man impregnating a girl, push her out to suffer all alone; then some years after birthing the child, the young idiot called a man will come to claiming to be the father of the child. After the pains of pregnancy and the pains of child bearing, all of a sudden somebody will just rise from somewhere to take the baby away from the mother. What makes you a father then?
To me, this is injustice and whoever is advocating for such is advocating for injustice against womanhood. Am not a woman but I feel this is bad!!!!!
In some cases that I have seen, they will boldly without shame open their filthy mouth wide to say "I have come to take my baby" which baby exactly if I may ask, the one you abandoned with the mother, the same baby you denied? You are a wicked soul. If I were the child, I would never have anything to do with you all my life because of your inhumane attitude towards me! I would rather remain in my maternal home and bear the shame that may come with it, as for returning to you, no way!
The only thing you can do very well is sleeping with a woman but taking the responsibilities for your actions is not in your plan, so why doing it since you know you can't take responsibilities for the outcome?
Is it the ability to impregnate a woman that makes one a father? No I don't think so because even some mad men in the streets can do that too. Being a father, is a call to responsibility; if you can't be responsible, don't go after the child because you are not the father. A father is one who can stand strong by and for his children, he can bear the shame and pain to prove himself worthy of being whom he says he is actually.
So, I don't like it when some traditions demands that the child must go to the man even when the man has proven himself unworthy of having the child to himself.
My final opinion on this is that in cases like this, the woman should be allowed to take possession of the child and hand him over to whoever she chooses, either the man that would agree to marry and take proper care of her and the child or leave the child with her family as theirs!!!
So finally, if you're gonna be a father, be a responsible one!
