ONE MAN STANDING
The story of Jehoshaphat has for decades been to me, the most intriguing of the Kings of Judah. This is changing though!
He was the king of the southern part of the divided kingdom, under the line of Rehoboam. Jeroboam who ruled the norther ten tribes kept his aggression till he was ultimately defeated by Abijah (13:20). When the enemy doesn't succeed in destroying through ATTACKS, he shifts to ALLIANCE.
Jehoshaphat fell for this, forming alliance with Ahab, weak husba2 Chronicles 18:7 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "[There is] still one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He [is] Micaiah the son of Imla." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say such things!"2 Chronicles 18:7 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "[There is] still one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He [is] Micaiah the son of Imla." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say such things!"nd of the wicked and domineering Jezebel. Why he did that is not known to me.
So, during one of his visits to Ahab he was implored by King Ahab to go to battle with him. Surprisingly, Jehoshaphat consented on one condition, "Only inquire of the LORD. " To this, Ahab summoned 400 prophets who with one voice prophesied victory. The end of that story was a wicked arrow that took the life of Ahab. Of course that was because Ahab didn't listen to the only contrary voice. Here's the original record,
2 Chronicles 18:7 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "[There is] still one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He [is] Micaiah the son of Imla." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say such things!"
I am drawn to the reaction of Jehoshaphat and the reply of Ahab. Four hundred men were prophesying the same thing yet it didn't settle well with Jehoshaphat's Spirit. Do we still have such leaders today? Not impressed he asked for a true prophet and Ahab's reply was, "THERE'S STILL ONE MAN BY WHOM WE MAY INQUIRE OF THE LORD..."
What a man he was! The one man still standing with the true words from Jehovah. I am amazed by the fact that even an apostate king Ahab knew that Micaiah stood in the counsel of the Lord. His choice of the word "Still" suggests that every effort had been made to corrupt him but all in vain. Where are the generations of Micaiah today?
Ours is a generation of 400 prophets preaching, declaring and decreeing the same thing. The public feels they are right since by the testimony of many witnesses truth is established. What they don't understand is that the two or three witnesses that establish the truth must be true witnesses. Four hundred false witnesses can't establish the truth. This calls for wisdom and discernment.
My mind is made up tonstand in the lineage of Micaiah: the one mannfrom whose lips the divine counsels for my generation can be found. My mind is also made up to, like Jehoshaphat, not be fool by the voice of majority. What about you?
They still call me
