FAITH THAT TAKES RISKS

HEBREWS 11:8-10

VERSE OF THE DAY:
_"BY FAITH ABRAHAM, WHEN HE WAS CALLED TO GO OUT INTO A PLACE WHICH HE SHOULD AFTER RECEIVE FOR AN INHERITANCE"- HEBREWS 11:8._

When God called Abraham to leave his home in Ur of the Chaldeans, Abraham had to take a leap of faith without knowing the outcome. The author of Hebrews tells us that he “went out, not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8). There will be seasons in your life and my life when God will tell you to step out into the unknown. In those times, will you be ready to follow Jesus, even if it leads to areas unknown or even unsafe? Often, Christians like to be comfortable and play it safe, but in reality, God has not called us to comfort. He has called us to fulfil His purposes in our lives. One of the greatest enemies to believers accomplishing the will of God for their lives is comfort. Amos 6:1 reminds us, “Woe unto those who are at ease in Zion.”

When God calls us into the unknown, it can be quite intimidating, but the fact is, God is not going to send us someplace He has not already walked. In John 10:11, Jesus calls Himself “The Good Shepherd.” Do you know what good shepherds do? They go before the sheep. Good shepherds will find new pastures. They will prepare the ground, and they will lead the sheep, “Beside still waters” (Psalm 23:2). Good Shepherds are not behind their sheep, pushing them out into the unknown. Good shepherds are ahead of their sheep, saying, “Come, follow me. This path is good for you.”

When God called Abraham to leave his home, he did not have the benefits we have today. He did not have Scripture to help guide him. He did not have the Holy Spirit indwelling him as believers have now. So when Jesus tells us how to take risks, He instructs us to take calculated risks. Consider His teaching in Luke 14:28, “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? When we take risks for the Lord, we are to consider our options with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and with the counsel of Scripture.

So, if you are someone who is facing a big decision. If you feel God has called you to leap over the wall without really knowing where you will land, do not feel like you are alone in making such a decision. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Ask God to speak to you through His word. We communicate with God through prayer, and God communicates with us through His Word. Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1:19, “We have a more sure word.” Peter actually heard the audible voice of the Almighty on the Mount of Transfiguration, yet Peter calls Scripture a “more sure word.” Do you have that kind of confidence in the Bible? Scripture, along with the help of the Holy Spirit, will guide you through every step of life.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, teach me to take calculated risks, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

DAILY GRACE, THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 2026.

FAITH

TEXT: HEBREWS 11:1 -11

VERSE OF THE DAY:
_"BUT WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE HIM: FOR HE THAT COMETH TO GOD MUST BELIEVE THAT HE IS, AND THAT HE IS A REWARDER OF THEM THAT DILIGENTLY SEEK HIM"- HEBREWS 11:6._

Faith is an unwavering belief in God. However, the author of Hebrews gives us a very specific definition of faith: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV). Faith is trust that allows rest in God. Faith puts the cares and concerns into God’s hands. Faith does not demand evidence, for faith believes before it sees and trusts that God is faithful to answer in His time and according to His purposes. Without faith, it is impossible to please God, for whoever draws near to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

It was by faith that Noah, being warned by God 120 years before the coming flood, constructed an ark to save his household. By faith Abraham obeyed and went, not knowing where he was going, to a foreign land of promise. By faith, Sarah received power to conceive in her old age. By faith, Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing instead to follow God and reject the fleeting wealth and pleasures of sin. By faith, Moses led God’s people through the Red Sea on dry land, and God saved them from the pursuing Egyptians. By faith, the Israelites obeyed God and for seven days marched around Jericho, which had walls approximately 5 to 7 feet thick, 12 to 17 feet high, with a defensive tower that stood 28 feet high. On the seventh day, they marched again, and with a great shout, the walls fell down. By faith, when the angel announced to Mary that she would carry the Son of God, she responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38 NIV).

Many other men and women responded to God in faith and in obedience because they saw themselves as servants of God. They believed in His Word and in His promises. Faith in God is trust in Him. Genuine biblical faith expresses itself in everyday life. Faith works through love to produce tangible evidence of its existence in a person’s life (Gal 5:6). The obedience that pleases God comes from faith (Rom 1:5; 16:26). Faith is so important because it is the means by which we have a relationship with God. Having faith is having trust. You have to trust with your entire being that God has your back, that he will help you and take care of you. He knows what is best, but to truly embrace what He has planned for you, you have to fully trust in Him.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for being both faithful and good, in Jesus' Name, Amen.

THE VALUE OF CONTENTMENT

TEXT: PROVERBS 30:7-9

VERSE OF THE DAY: _"FOR I HAVE LEARNED IN WHATEVER SITUATION I AM IN TO BE CONTENT"- PHILIPPIANS 4:11._

King Solomon defined contentment in Proverbs 30:7-9, and he gave us the perfect balance between ambition and contentment. King Solomon said he neither wants poverty nor riches because both can have negative consequences.

Instead, he asks the Lord to give him simply what he needs. Can you and I pray this type of prayer? Can we truthfully ask the Lord to only give us what we need? The danger of poverty is that it can cause you to feel slighted and steal, justifying your actions. However, the danger of riches is that it distorts your perspective. It causes people not to look to the Lord because they feel sufficient within themselves. According to Jeremiah 2:13, God calls self-sufficiency sin!. If we are going to trust in God’s provision, then we should ask God for what we need and not worry about the other matters of life. It is much easier said than done, especially for people who are ambitious.

Second Corinthians 1:20 says, For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, If God’s promises find their sufficiency in Christ, then Christ cannot fail, so neither will God’s great and precious promises.

Contentment in God’s promises means that we should not bargain or negotiate with God. Instead, we should accept His will, knowing that all things will work together for our good and for His glory (Romans 8:28). Why should we bargain with God if we are confident that His will is perfect for our lives? If we are going to grow in contentment, then it means we are going to be content with not only what God has given us, but what He has promised us. This will protect us from feeling slighted by God.

Psalm 16:11 says, “You make known to me the path of life, in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” People seek happiness, and they seek joy in everything but the Lord. The Bible teaches that it is in God’s presence that there is fullness of joy. The Bible does not promise believers happiness, but rather, promises us joy, because happiness varies. Happiness depends on the way things happen in our lives. If life happens to be good, comfortable, and convenient at the moment, then we can be happy. But what happens when life takes a turn? Where does our happiness go? It is fleeting, and it fails. Instead, God gives His people joy, and what a difference between joy and happiness. Joy does not depend on the happenings of life. Joy rises above the circumstances of life. Joy is solid and consistent. Joy will not fail you when your life turns upside down. Why? Because true joy is found in God and God alone. Nehemiah 8:10.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to grow in contentment, in Jesus' Name, Amen.
