ACTIVE FAITH

TEXT: JAMES 2:17

VERSE OF THE DAY:
_“THUS ALSO FAITH BY ITSELF, IF IT DOES NOT HAVE WORKS, IS DEAD” - JAMES 2:17 (NKJV)_

Faith is a dynamic and transformative aspect of the Christian life, one that should result in action and tangible expressions of belief. This lesson will examine the nature of active faith, its manifestations in our lives, and how we can cultivate a faith that produces good works in accordance with God's will.

In James 2:17, the Apostle James emphasises that faith alone, without accompanying actions, is ineffective. This powerful declaration calls us to reflect on the authenticity of our faith. True faith is not passive; it drives us to live out our beliefs in ways that align with God’s purpose. Active faith manifests itself in our choices, behaviours, and interactions with others.

Understanding active faith can be rooted in the example of Abraham, as highlighted in James 2:21-23. Abraham’s willingness to offer Isaac as a sacrifice demonstrated his trust in God and resulted in his justification. This legacy teaches us that genuine faith is expressed through obedience and acts of service. It challenges us to consider how God may be calling us to action in our own lives.

Jesus Himself exemplified active faith throughout His ministry. In Matthew 7:20, He says, “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” This highlights the connection between our faith and our actions. Just as a tree is known by its fruit, our faith should produce evidence of God’s work in us. When we serve others, extend kindness, and exhibit love, we become tangible expressions of Christ’s presence in the world.

Furthermore, active faith is integral to our spiritual growth. In Galatians 5:6, we learn, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.” Here, we see that active faith is fuelled by love and leads to meaningful change, both in ourselves and in those around us. When we engage in acts of service, prayer, and community, our faith deepens and matures.

Additionally, an active faith inspires and influences others. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus instructs us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Our actions, rooted in faith, can illuminate the path for others, encouraging them to seek God and experience His love. This communal aspect of faith promotes encouragement, accountability, and discipleship within the body of Christ.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, strengthen my faith and help me to put it into action in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

THE VALUE OF CHILDREN

TEXTS: MATTHEW 19:14; PSALM 127:3

VERSE OF THE DAY:._“BUT JESUS SAID, ‘LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME TO ME AND DO NOT HINDER THEM, FOR TO SUCH BELONGS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN" - MATTHEW 19:14 ESV)_

As we celebrate Children’s Day, we are reminded of the immense value and preciousness of children in the eyes of God. This day invites us to reflect on Jesus’ love for young ones and our responsibility to nurture and protect them. In the Bible, we see time and again that children hold a special place in God's heart.

In the passage from Matthew, Jesus emphasizes the importance of allowing children to come to Him. He rebukes the disciples for trying to keep the children away, illustrating that the kingdom of heaven is accessible to those with the faith and innocence of a child. This serves as a powerful reminder that children are not only a blessing but also vital participants in God’s kingdom.

Psalm 127 further echoes this truth, stating that “children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” This highlights the joy and responsibility we have as parents, caregivers, and community members to cherish and support children as they grow. Each child is a unique gift with potential and purpose, fashioned by God’s design.

As we celebrate Children’s Day, we must also consider how we can create environments that promote love, safety, and spiritual growth for children. It is our duty to provide nurturing spaces where they can learn about God’s love, explore their faith, and develop their gifts. We can encourage children to express their thoughts and feelings, listen to their dreams, and guide them in their journey to know Christ.

Moreover, this celebration prompts us to reflect on how we can advocate for children in our communities. How can we support those in need, ensure their welfare, and ensure that every child feels valued and recognised? We are called to be their champions, lifting them in prayer and action.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, we thank You for the gift of children and the joy they bring into our lives. Help us to love, support, and teach them about Your goodness in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

LOOK FOR GRACE

TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 12:9

VERSE OF THE DAY:
_“BUT HE SAID TO ME, ‘MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU, FOR MY STRENGTH IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS.’ THEREFORE, MOST GLADLY I WILL RATHER BOAST IN MY INFIRMITIES, THAT THE POWER OF CHRIST MAY REST UPON ME” - 2 CORINTHIANS 12:9 (NKJV)._

Grace is an ever-present reality in the life of a believer and recognising it amidst our challenges and struggles can profoundly impact our spiritual journey. This lesson aims to help us understand the importance of looking for grace in every situation and cultivating a perspective that appreciates God's sustaining power, especially in our weaknesses.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the Apostle Paul speaks of a personal struggle—a "thorn in the flesh"—and God's response emphasises that grace is not merely a concept but a practical source of strength in our lives. This verse reassures us that even in our times of weakness, God's grace is sufficient. It encourages us to seek out and rely on His grace, understanding that it can empower us to overcome adversity and find purpose in our pain.

Looking for grace involves recognising God's hand in everyday situations. Psalm 111:4 declares, “He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.” By reflecting on God's past deeds and His grace in our lives, we can cultivate gratitude and a stronger faith. This practice reminds us that no moment is devoid of God’s grace, even in the midst of trials.

Grace also invites us to embrace our vulnerabilities as opportunities for God's strength to shine through. When we acknowledge our limitations and lean on God's grace, we open ourselves to greater reliance on Him. As stated in Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” This encourages us to approach God with confidence, knowing He is ready to extend grace when we need it most.

Moreover, looking for grace equips us to extend grace to others. Ephesians 4:32 urges us to “be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” When we recognise the grace we have received, it becomes easier to practice kindness and forgiveness.

Grace also leads us to hope and transformation. As we seek God's grace in our lives, we are reminded of the hope found in Romans 5:2-5: “Through whom we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Our trials, when met with grace, can lead to growth, perseverance, and a deeper understanding of God's love.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to recognise and look for Your grace in every aspect of life in Jesus' Name, Amen.
