Samuel Maduka Onyishi (Onwa Nsukka) hails from Nsukka, Enugu State. He was born on November 23rd, 1963. He is married to Mrs. Ify Onyishi and blessed with children. He is a Christian.
He obtained his FSLC at Enugu Road Primary School, Nsukka in 1976; his WASC at St. Theresa’s College, Nsukka in 1981 and later proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka and obtained his Diploma and B.Sc. in Social Work and Community Development in 1995 and 1999 respectively. He holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship.
He is the Chairman, Peace Mass Transit Ltd. (A Transport Company that has more than two thousand mini buses and over four thousand employees), Peace Express (Courier) Services Ltd, Peace Petroleum Ltd, Peace Capital Market Ltd, Peace Micro-Finance Bank Ltd, Peace Bureau de Change Ltd and PMT Beijing Trade (China) Ltd.
He is also the Chairman of C&I Leasing PLC, Director, Globus Bank Ltd and May & Baker Pharmaceutical Plc.
He was the President of Nsukka Town Union, Kano Branch; President of Nsukka Youth Association (Two Terms); President of Amukwa Youths Association (Two Terms); the Proprietor of Peace Football Club; President of Nsukka Today; Former Member, NITEL Board; Chairman, NITEL Board Technical Committee and presently the Patron of Nsukka Town Union.
Samuel Maduka Onyishi was Former Chairman, Rangers International Football Club of Enugu.
Samuel Maduka Onyishi is a philanthropist, social entrepreneur and business mentor for millions of Nigerians. As a philanthropist since 1998, his Peace Foundation and Samuel Maduka onyishi foundation, has started business for several thousands; some of whom he has only met for few days or weeks before giving them lifelines, business support or both. He has continued to train many others, known and the unknown to him in schools.
Samuel Maduka Onyishi African Entrepreneurship Foundation, University of Nigeria, (SAMOAEF), has been the model reference point for educational philanthropy, youth empowerment, and help for the physically challenged and sustainable social poverty reduction in Nigeria.
He has received several awards and titles such as Transporter of the year by Rotary Club of Nsukka, Grass root Transporter by NUJ Enugu State, Chieftaincy Title of “Onwa” by Amukwa Community and ‘Onwa Nsukka’ by Nsukka Town General Assembly for success of Peace Foundation, Excellence in Business by Igbo National Council, Chieftaincy Title of “Oyi-Oha” by Orba Community for his role in the NITEL Board, Pillar of Development Award by Anambra State Development Foundation, Shining Star Award 2008 from Nsukka USA Inc.
Best Inter-State Transporter of the year 2008 at the Abuja Int’l Auto Fare by BKG Exhibitions, He was appreciated on Gold Category for being one of the top volume buyers between 2006 – 2012 by Elizade Nigeria Limited; an appreciation that was packaged as 2 Brand New Toyota Avensis Cars. In addition, Toyota Nigeria Ltd. awarded him No 1 customer of the year 2012 which also came along with a gift of a Brand New Toyota RAV 4 Jeep.
He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Communication Arts and Public Administration from (Institute of Journalism, Management and Continuing Education, Enugu), African International Fellowship Award-AIF from (African Biographic Centre, Nigeria), Honorary Fellowship Award from Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu. Today, he is a Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Science and Technology – FNIST, Fellow of the Federal Polytechnic Unwana Afikpo.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is heartening to know that Samuel Onyishi is the first non-resident Fellow of the Institute of African Studies, UNN; since her over fifty years of existence. He was awarded Honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration (Hon. DBA) on May 11, 2013 by Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
After this, he got a Service Recognition Award by the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments in Enugu State on June 20, 2013, and an Award of Pillar of Community Service and Development in Enugu State on September 27, 2013 by the South-East Network of Professionals. Early in the year 2014, the Enugu Chamber of Commerce and Industry on February 1, elevated Sam to a beneficiary of their prestigious Key man award for business excellence and integrity.
Another star was yet added to Sam Maduka Onyishi when on March 29, 2014, University of Nigeria Nsukka decided to award an honorary Doctorate degree in Business Administration to him.
On September 17, 2012, he was meritoriously awarded a National Honor of Member of the Order of Niger (MON) by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR).
