Sultan Declares Tuesday June 16th As First Day of Muharram 1448AH; Marking Islamic New Year

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar

has declared Tuesday, 16th June, 2026 as the First Day of Muharram 1448AH, marking the beginning of the Islamic new Year.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu on Monday.

The Council of Ulama of Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'a Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (Jibwis) Dutsin-ma Local Government Branch wishes to announce the CHANGE IN TIME for Eidil Fitri Prayer in its Eid Prayer Grounds.
Now the time for the prayer is A QUOTER FAST EIGHT O'CLOCK (8 : 15am) in sha Allah.

This announcement supercedes the earlier announcement of 9 : 15am.

RAMADAN CRESCENT SIGHTING ANNOUNCEMENT...!!!

The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has called upon all Muslims in the Country to sight the Ramadan crescent on the evening of today Tuesday Sha’ban 29th, 1447 AH, corresponding to February 17th, 2026.

Whoever sights the crescent is encouraged to report it to the nearest Emirate Council to complete the official testimony.

May Allah allow us to witness Ramadan in good health, strong faith, and abundant mercy.

This gentleman was a respected Islamic who came to Katsina over four decades back as a student of the then Arabic Teacher's College A.T.C. Mention needs to be made here that even before he gained into ATC he was already a well learned person, especially in the field of Islamic jurisprudence, hadith, Arabic grammar and the like. When he came and settled in Katsina he kept learning privately from prominent Islamic clerics. Malam Habbu Kaura started tafseer Qur'anic exegesis around 1984 since then he kept it up, up to the time of his demise. Malam was very generous, level headed and courageous. He used to challenge whoever needed to be challenged without fear of whatever it might have caused him.
