It was yet another glorious service as Elder and Deaconess Michael Bassey brought their son, little Master Popular Michael Bassey to be dedicated unto God. The service was anchored by God's General, Apostle (Dr.) Timmy Larry, the General Overseer of Glorious Assembly Ministries (GAM). The servant of God who spoke on the topic; EFFECTIVE CHILD UPBRINGING admonished parents to take up the responsibility of training their children in the way of the Lord. He drew his sermon from the book of Proverbs 22: 5-6. In his message, he advised parent to always raise a child that will go with their godly instructions and follow the sequence of life, for a child that steals and live an ungodly life counters the flow of the tides of life. "A child can only follow the tides of life when the parent catch them young and hand them over to God. The foundation that you raise your child on, will rule and guide him throughout his life. Train your child in a way he should go, do not allow your house help, wicked neighbour, Nigerian movie, television, wicked friends etc. to train your child for you.
By implication, parents are suppose to know how to train a child before conception. Parents that do not know how to relate with one another will be unable to train their children on how to relate with people in good manner.
STRATEGIES ON RAISING A GODLY CHILD
- BRING UP A CHILD IN THE WAY OF THE LORD
- DISCIPLINE THE CHILD
Discipline is a vehicle that will move your child from nothing to something (Ephesians 6: 1-2, 1st Corinthian 6: 1-2). The best way to discipline a child is by bringing the child always to church and hand him over to God, teach the child the word of God and live a godly life for the child to emulate. Every child have a psychological life pattern that extinct them from others. Know that your child is the product of your character and your life style, your child is an extension of your nature and who you are. So do not expect your child to be different from you in character and doings. From conception, whatever the mother eats or say affects the life of the unborn child. So parents should learn to create a vision for their child before they begin the process, because the future of the nation is in the hands of the children and they are the life wire of tomorrow. If you raise a fruitful child, he will be fruitful but if you raise an unfruitful child, such a child will be unfruitful and wasted (Proverbs 13:24, Proverbs 19:18).
- DO NOT PAMPER A CHILD
Do not pamper a child, use the rod of correction whenever the child misbehaves. Expose the child to godly risk so he can grow up to become independent and help you in future. Do not over pamper a child to become a nuisance to the family and community at large. Train a child to be strong and learn to do things on his own. If you keep pampering a child, you will end up pampering him till age 25, 30 or 40 and the child will keep depending on you even at old age. Always give a child his need and not his want. Do not spoil a child with excess gift so he won't grow up to become an arm robber when you can no longer provide for him. In child's psychology, there is a time of correction, when the child grows above that age, no matter what you do, you can no longer discipline him. You can discipline a child from day 1 to 6years. The first 3 years is the period to plant and instill a good character, life style and manner into the life of a child, while the last 3years is the period of correction. Beyond this period, you can no longer add or subtract from the life of the child because the child has become a full blown man (Proverbs 22:7). In child's psychology, from 1day to 3years is the period of absorbent mind; the child learns from the vibration of the parents thought. He absorbs every information from the parents and the environment and his life is moulded base on what he absorbs.
- EDUCATE THE CHILD
Try and educate your child to become a better person tomorrow. Education is the key to a prosperous tomorrow. Know that the most expensive thing on earth is ignorance, so avail your children of a good and quality educate to enable them rule their world. Above all, pray for God's wisdom and knowledge upon you child and learn to make positive declaration upon him" he added.
Baby Popular Michael Bassey was officially dedicated unto the Lord before the presence of many who graced the occasion.
The service was climaxed with a mind blowing testimony of how God saved a brother from the snare of a wicked Python that invaded his home, the snake was killed without hurting anyone. God be praised.
