IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIND REAL LOVE?
Many people question whether true love still exists in today’s world. With the growing prevalence of heartbreak, betrayal, and failed relationships, it is understandable that some may feel discouraged. However, when we look at love through a biblical lens—especially the teachings found in the book of Corinthians—we gain a clearer understanding that real love is not only possible, but deeply defined and attainable.
In 1 Corinthians 13, often called the “love chapter,” the Apostle Paul describes love not as a fleeting emotion, but as a way of living and relating to others. From this perspective, true love is shaped by action, character, and spiritual maturity rather than temporary feelings.
1. Love is rooted in character, not circumstanceReal love is not dependent on changing emotions or external conditions. It is built on trust, honesty, respect, patience, forgiveness, and commitment—qualities that can be intentionally developed and sustained over time.
2. Love is defined by enduring principles (1 Corinthians 13)The Bible teaches that love is central to God’s nature: "God is love" (1 John 4:8). In 1 Corinthians 13:4–8, love is described as patient and kind, not envious or boastful, not easily angered, and keeping no record of wrongs. It does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. This shows that love is not random or fleeting, but consistent, purposeful, and enduring.
3. Many people mistake attraction for loveOne reason love may seem rare is that it is often confused with physical attraction, emotional excitement, or personal gain. When these fade, relationships may collapse. True love, however, is based on shared values and mutual respect, which can last beyond initial feelings.
4. Healthy relationships are intentionally builtReal love does not simply happen—it is developed. Couples who communicate honestly, forgive regularly, and choose commitment even during challenges are more likely to experience lasting love.
5. Personal growth prepares people for loveIndividuals who cultivate strong character, practice selflessness, and seek wisdom are better equipped for meaningful relationships. Love grows more naturally where maturity and emotional stability are present.
6. Love is strengthened through faith and guidanceFor many, seeking divine direction helps shape their understanding of love and commitment. With God at the center, relationships are guided by higher principles that encourage endurance and unity.
In conclusion, real love is not a myth. It is possible wherever two people choose to honour, respect, forgive, and remain committed to one another. As 1 Corinthians 13:13 reminds us, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
