The Passion of the Christ was released during my university studies in Jerusalem. I’ll never forget the night a fellow student invited me to their dorm to watch the movie. He wasn’t a believer, so I hoped it might create space for conversations about faith.

I was stunned when the movie cut to the credits immediately after Jesus’s crucifixion. No resurrection… no empty tomb. Just a dark screen, silence, and a glitchy jump to the credits. When I asked where he got the DVD, he told me he purchased it from a vendor in the Muslim quarter of the Old City. Apparently his purchase was deliberately altered by the distributor so it wouldn’t declare Christ’s ultimate victory. It was my joy to share with him the rest of the story.

Romans 8:10 affirms the hard truth that our bodies are wasting away. But verse 11 refuses to let death have the final word. The resurrection of Christ is reiterated twice, and both times Paul credits the miracle to the Holy Spirit. And if that weren’t enough, Paul also underscores that the same Spirit who raised Jesus now dwells in us.

John Calvin once wrote, “We must understand that as long as Christ remains outside of us, and we are separated from Him, all that He has suffered and done for the salvation of the human race remains useless.”[1] What good is resurrection power if it stays at a distance?

Many Christians live out an edited Gospel existence. They believe Jesus died for them. They believe He will return in glory… but they miss the miracle of the present: the Spirit of God lives in us now. It’s like watching that altered DVD in my friend’s dorm room: crucifixion, then credits. A Savior who died but doesn’t dwell.

Romans 8:11 refuses to let the Gospel stop at the cross or settle into blood-soaked silence. It lifts our gaze to the great miracle that is unfolding right now: the very Spirit who raised Jesus from the grave lives in those who belong to Christ.

This is not a promise reserved for your future. It’s a present-tense invasion. The God who hovered over the waters of creation, who split the sea and shook the earth beneath Egypt’s armies, who thundered at Sinai and shattered the grip of death now lives in you.

REFLECT:
How has the enemy tried to limit you to an edited Gospel void of the Spirit’s power?

Why Release the Offense?

As a Pastor, I regularly reflect upon how we might attain greater efficiency and effectiveness in the Christian life. “Where are we as God’s people MISSING IT?” is often my question. Upon reflection, especially with regard to overcoming offense, I discovered that we have neglected to devote ourselves to preparation. I hope to talk to you today about the preparation of THE HEART….

Yesterday we discussed that in Moses' day, the priests would pick up dirt between home and the Tabernacle. Despite having had a bath before leaving home, they needed cleansing at the Brazen Laver before they could enter into the presence of God. Why? Because God desired a pure sacrifice and a pure priest to offer it. You might wonder, “how does this apply to us?” “I thought that was under the Old Covenant?” “I thought that Jesus’ blood completely washes us from sin?”

My answer is YES! That is true, my friend. Yet, we are still capable of sin, in thought, word, or deed. Once again, when Jesus uses the word “offense,” he is describing a device used to trip something in order to trap it. Daily, we encounter situations, temptations, persecutions, false accusations that have the potential to leave us wounded, scarred, broken, offended: trapped. For instance, you might think that you are “over” past abuses that you suffered. However, when coincidentally you encounter the person who hurt you - in the grocery store of all places - instantly, you begin to re-live trauma and to desire vengeance ALL OVER AGAIN. It is because you are still offended: trapped.

Plainly, releasing offenses is the principle and practice of forgiveness. Forgiveness is not merely an option; for the child of God, it is an obligation. We are commanded to forgive. There are three key reasons: for God’s sake, for our own sake, and for the sake of others in one’s life. Jesus said unforgiveness hinders our prayer, opens the door for Satanic torment, and hinders God's purpose for our lives. Therefore, we must be cleansed OFTEN from the offenses we carry. Jesus’ blood does not just remove eternal damnation from us, but it also purges our hearts from DAILY DEBRIS that would prevent us from serving God and causing others to know HIM. Ultimately, you are obligated to forgive for God’s sake. Because of Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross, God has forgiven each of us. And He commands us to give the gift He has given to us… to others.

Offense will come: Jesus said so! Our responsibility is to properly release it from our hearts.

LET US PRAY

Lord, we come confessing our sin, the sin of harboring offenses. We believe You are faithful and just to forgive us of our sins. and to cleanse from all unrighteousness. But show us how. Show us how we can live past those dark moments that seem to have marked us forever without hating whoever or whatever was responsible. We believe that You are able to do it. We trust in you. Amen.

Southern Solidarity for Tinubu.

A friend sent me a message that Tinubu plans to hold a meeting with all the Traditional Rulers in the Southern part of Nigeria in order for them to convince their subjects to support and vote for him in 2027.

No problem. But this is what Southern Nigeria looks like under Tinubu right now.

The next election isn't between the South and the North as Tinubu is struggling to make it look like.

It is about the current and future state of Nigeria.

Do whatever you like with this information.

Me: The South-South region, which generates wealth for Nigeria is the most marginalized and unfairly treated region in the country's history.

76 Oil wells Crisis: The Hidden Truth Everyone must know

The attention of the Cross River State Government (CRSG) has been drawn to a Press Release issued by Uko Udom, SAN, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Akwa Ibom State on the 24th July, 2025 wherein several misrepresentations and outright falsehood were made against the Government and the good people of Cross River State. Given the sensitivity of the issue, the Cross River State Government would ordinarily not join in litigating this matter in the Court of Public Opinion, just as our sister State desires in the light of her various publications on the subject matter. Nevertheless, this time, it is important to clarify the misinformation peddled by the Akwa Ibom

State Government on this issue of 76 oil Wells

2. It is correct that the Government of Cameroon filed a case at the international Court of Justice (ICJ) against Nigeria in 1994 claiming ownership of the Bakassi Peninsula in Cross River State. The ICJ delivered its Judgment in 2002 ceding the Southern portion of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon leaving out Western Bakassi in Nigeria in the Judgment. The clear implication of that judgment is that Western Bakassi remains in Cross River State and in Nigeria.

3. It must be noted that the judgment of the International Court of Justice was implemented by the Signing of the Green Tree Agreement in 2008 where Nigeria and Cameroon ,with the help of the United Nations, set up the structures for the handover Peninsular to Cameroon and initiated the Joint Boundary Demarcation Committee known as the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission with the mandate of mapping out the land and maritime boundary between Nigeria and Cameroon.

4. While the Committee was yet to commence its work of mapping out the actual boundary line of the territories belonging to Nigeria and Cameroon over Bakassi and Lake Chad, the National Boundary Commission and the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission held a retreat in Kano in August 2008 and applied what they called the “Technical Option” as against the “Historic Title Option” earlier used in demarcating the boundary between Cross River and Akwa Ibom States and awarded the 76 oil wells located in western Bakassi to Akwa Ibom State. Let it also be noted that Akwa Ibom State in their petition to the National Boundary Commission had prayed for the application of the Historic Title Option in the resolution of her boundary dispute with Rivers State as was the case with her boundary with Cross River State.

5. It is worthy of note also that while Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa States were invited to the retreat held in Kano, Cross River State was not invited because it had no boundary dispute with Akwa Ibom prior to August, 2008.

6. Notwithstanding the several judgments of the Supreme Court referred to in the Press Release under reference, in March, 2024, the attention of His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Governor of Cross River State was drawn to the fact that several oil wells, in OML 114 and 123 Oil fields, were indeed within the Cross River State’s maritime boundary and for which it derived no revenue whatsoever. As a responsible leader, His Excellency, Governor Otu engaged the relevant authority, namely the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission on this revelation.

7. Upon receipt of Cross River State’s Complaint, an inter-Agency Committee, Comprising of the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation, National Boundary Commission, Nigeria Upstream Regulatory Commission was constituted with Surveyors- General of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Cross River and other oil producing States as observers to determine the veracity of the Cross River State’s Claim.

8. In May, 2024, the Committee carried out its mandate by plotting the Maritime boundary of Cross River State using the Nation’s Administrative Map 11th edition, as well as the 2004 well dichotomy Study Map and thereafter geolocated the oil wells found therein. At the end of the exercise, sixty-seven (67) oil wells were found to be within the Maritime Boundary of Cross River State. It is this uncomfortable truth, that our sister State (Akwa Ibom) seeks to suppress as it lays bare the injustice Cross River State has had to suffer since the decision of the Supreme Court delivered in 2012, which Akwa Ibom State Government now hides behind.

9. The Presidency has waded into the matter as it should rightly do and has directed both States to consult widely, hold stakeholder’s engagements and report back. By the posturing of the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State and the contents of his Press Release, it is abundantly clear that Akwa Ibom State has no interest in the process outlined by the Presidency. On the other hand, Cross River State, standing on the biblical injunction that truth crushed to the ground shall surely rise again, remains committed to unearthing the truth and correcting the grave injustice done to her.

10. This Press Statement shall serve as the ONLY RESPONSE on this issue by Cross River State.
